Alys covered a smile with a hand as the baker returned to inspect their cookies. Ah, yes, yes, very good! he announced, beaming at the pair of them. Now, you must try them, yes? As he waited expectantly, Alys took a cookie from each tray and exchanged an amused glance with Niki. Then she tried first one, then the other. Truth be told, she didn’t taste much of a difference between the two, but she offered a closed-mouth smile at the baker anyway. ”They’re very good,” she said once she’d swallowed her mouthful. ”I’ll be sure to make a purchase next time I’m here.”
Seemingly satisfied, the baker clapped his hands together. Wonderful! he exclaimed. There are some boxes you can use to take the remaining cookies with you. And remember to tell your friends! And with that, he bustled off to the next pair.
”Well,” Alys said with a soft laugh. ”This has been an experience, Niki. I’d better be heading out, but it was very nice to meet you.” She began to package some of the cookies into a box. ”I do hope we meet again.”
