The Forsaken

The tunnel shuddered and shook. Rocks and debris rained down. Noah felt shards of sharp stone cut at his face, larger stones smacking against his back and shoulders, yet the demigod did not falter. Invigorated by Vi’s magical blessings flowing through his blood again the Forsaken doesn’t feel as such. He helps bring down the webvex and satisfaction pulses within his battered body.

More commands and orders. Noah lifted his head and searched the smaller tunnel for the wyrm, griffin eyes piercing the darkness. ”I agree with Jack.” Noah says swiftly and solidly, readying his stag once more. ”More roses, more lillies, more reinforcements.” he suggests. If the wyrm would come, Noah would strike.

Sah

The spider was dead and Sah couldn't help but feel relieved. He never wished to be cut off from his magic again. He winced as his shoulder was struck with one of the stones. "On it." As he readied his magic to reinforce the tunnel, the hybrid considered Jack's words, "I'll give it an opening to come through." Between the spider's carcass and a temptingly weak spot in the tunnel, maybe they could lure the wyrm into revealing itself.

Choosing a spot 10 feet on the ground in front of the group, Sah pointed at it. "There." Purposefully, the Wild Thunder left that area untouched by his magic.  It was a blatant invitation, but hopefully one that the wyrm would accept. Connecting to the dirt at the end of the tunnel, the hybrid pulled earth and lengthened it, shoving the excess earth into any gaps or cracks that the wyrm created, all while ignoring that small patch.

~
Sah pulls 10 cubic feet of earth from the end of the tunnel (lengthening it) and uses the pulled earth to stabilize/fill in any gaps/cracks that the wyrm causes while still keeping the tunnel narrow and usable. BUT one section on the ground, 10ft in front of the group, is left alone. This patch is roughly 3ftx3ft and he leaves it untouched to try and draw the wyrm out. He points the spot out to the team
He's still partially shifted. Armor cooldown 1/2

Earth Manipulation (Abandoned/Hybrid): Can create and control the earth. Must be within a 30ft radius.

the crush
Hadama ’s moonlight washes over them like a breath of stillness in a crumbling world.

Its gentle glow glimmers against stone and sweat, sealing wounds and dulling aches. Broken skin knits. Bruised lungs breathe easier. The weight pressing down on their spirits lifts just enough to make standing possible again.

And then the earth moves. From beneath the carcass of the dead Webvex, a sound like teeth grinding through granite splits the air. The bait has been taken.

But the wyrm does not come through Sah ’s carefully chosen opening. Or at least, not just through it. Instead, the ground erupts—a great, snarling maw of stone and hunger bursts forth, creating a crater nearly twenty feet wide. Soil and shattered rock spray in every direction, the Webvex carcass vanishing in an instant as something massive rips through it from below and screams into view.

Both Jack ’s magic and Noah ’s divine strikes lash out—but the wyrm shifts at the last second. Their attacks carve through empty air, missing by inches. The wyrm’s long neck whips back around and opens its maw, sending a blast of compressed, void-tainted air straight for Noah.

It misses, but barely—splitting the tunnel wall behind him with a sickening crack, leaving spiderweb fissures that glitter faintly with voidlight.

And then—gone again. The tunnel rumbles.

Mirewyrm (Rare):  The Mirewyrm is a colossal void entity, vaguely serpentine and dragonlike, that tunnels through stone as though the rock were liquid. Its body is plated in black, semi-metallic scales that shimmer with deep-space reflections, constantly shifting and rearranging like something unfinished. It has no eyes, and its mouth opens sideways in a jagged, spiral maw—a gateway rather than a mouth, lined not with teeth, but with coiling tendrils of voidlight and gravity.

Webvex (Rare): A massive, void-corrupted spider that stalks The Crush, the Webvex is an ethereal predator capable of phasing in and out of reality. Its translucent, oil-slick body pulses with alien constellations, and its many limbs jitter with unnatural, twitching grace. Where a face should be is a single, spiralling maw that consumes sound, memory, and reason. It spins crystalline void-webs that cling to magic, thought, and flesh alike.

The Mirewyrm obliged them by taking the bait--

But both of those assigned to attacking it missed. Hadama drew a breath and raised his chin, eyes narrowing at the hold left behind by the retreating - and still very much alive - Mirewyrm.

"This fight has been difficult enough," he said slowly to Jack's suggestion. "I would not put the next group in this position if we can avoid it." This was one battle of several, but by pushing the threat off again and again they would only make it harder to win the war. That was where his thoughts cast out to - the next few minutes, but also the next battle. And the one after that. "And we are not out of options yet."

Emerald eyes flicked to Noah, his expression doubly unreadable behind his mask. "We are the reinforcements. And now we know what sort of bait will draw the Wyrm. Will you heal us while we find more of it?"

He turned to Sah, outwardly calm. "That was well done, with the tunnel. Can you continue to hold it? I would like to at least gather more information. See if it can trace our movements if we leave this area and go deeper into the Crush. Or if it will have to return to reorient itself to our location if we move." He considered the place where the spider's corpse had been devoured. "Perhaps find another, smaller creature of the Void with which to lure it. Like the serpent from last time. I will return to the spider's tunnel and try to entice another... bait... to draw it out." He tilted his head in thought as an idea struck him. "Can anyone attempt a summoning of animals that might be in these tunnels?"

He took a firmer grip on his trident, and a moment later his form blurred as two Temporal Echoes joined him, overlapping with his movements. And he inclined his head to the rest of the party in the uncomfortably narrow tunnel. "Will you let me pass?" In order to return to their original tunnel. It seemed the best place to hunt down another serpent, or perhaps a smaller Void spider.

Hadama informs Jack and Noah that he is not yet ready to abandon a job that is so close to completion. He asks Sah to continue reinforcing the tunnel and suggests moving further into the Crush and away from their current location to test if the Wyrm can track their movements, or whether it would need to come after them to reorient itself. He intends to head back to the original tunnel in the Crush now that the Webvex is dead to try and find another, smaller Void creature to use as bait - similar to the serpent he found during the last quest. And he asks if anyone can Summon anything useful.

And he activates his Temporal Echo.

JACK

The wyrm surfaces, takes the bait, and is gone again before they can so much as say well shit, we're bad at this. A muscle twitches in Jack's jaw as it disappears - and he's sure as shit the creature is smug about it, even if he can't read its thoughts. Still, it's with bruises to nurse and the call of the open air and the deep ocean that he straightens up, expecting Hadama to shrug the special... fuckin'... flower box or whatever from his back, so they can get to planting and go home.

Except he doesn't.

Having been very much on board with the Tidebreaker so far - much to his own surprise, let it be known - he ought to have realised that it was only a matter of time before the heroic shitfuckery began.

"Are we?" he says curtly, of being the reinforcements. "'Cause far as I can tell there's at least three more demigods and one whole-ass Deimos up there we could tag in. It ain't like we're leavin' 'em in a worse position than the one we were put in when we got here."

Raising his eyebrows as two more Hadamas appear, Jack scoffs. "Feelin' threatened?" He steps aside, gesturing for the Tidebreaker to go the fuck ahead. "I ain't stoppin' you stayin'. But you ain't stoppin' me leavin'. We killed the spider, we tried to kill the wyrm. Ain't no shame in leavin' it there."

Jack says no thank you, but does move aside for Hadama. He makes his intention to leave next round clear, should they decide not to plant the flower.

The Forsaken

Hell broke loose, and they did not end it. Noah growled in frustration and his jaw feathered beneath the gas mask. Hadama went on, unwilling yet to plant the rose.

They were the reinforcements? Behind Remi and Ronin and Deimos? Noah understood that this gathered party was strong—he did—but he also knew he wasn’t as strong as Deimos. As the other, longer-standing  demigods.

Jack, too, was displeased with these few actions. Noah ignited his dome to heal anyways, words on the heels on Jack’s. ”If we plant it, will it come?” he asked, his breath a sharpness that didn’t match his stoicism over the attuned bond — forced and forced and forced down, sealed.

Noah heals them with divine opposition and asks if planting the rose would lure it back.

Sah

Sah cursed colorfully under his breath when both attacks missed. The spider was gone, and they were out of bait. They could, in theory, just plant the flower while he stabilized the tunnel and be done with their mission. Which Jack and Noah seemed to prefer. He could see their point.  Even if he wanted to kill the wyrm so that the next team wouldn't have to deal with it, pushing back the void's touch and making it home alive was the goal at the end of the day.

Retrieving bait as Hadama suggested sounded too risky and Sah opened his mouth to say so before it suddenly clicked that they did have something that might work as bait already.

As he turned to focus on the tunnel, the hybrid called over to the others, raising a brow at the tension mounting between them. "I have rations in my bag. It's luxere jerky. Maybe we can use that as bait and give it one more try, before switching gears and just taking care of the flower?" It was hardly a massive spider, but it was food. The hybrid was still tempted to just lay the jerky out now and lure the wyrm back but the cracks in the tunnel demanded his attention.

Once again, Sah pulled earth from the end of the tunnel and used it to reinforce and strengthen the gaps and cracks in the tunnel. He left the wyrm's latest entrance alone for now.

~
Sah tells the others that he has rations in his bag that they can use as bait as one last attempt to handle the wyrm. He then pulls 10 cubic feet of earth from the end of the tunnel (lengthening it) and uses the pulled earth to stabilize/fill in any gaps/cracks that the wyrm causes while still keeping the tunnel narrow and usable.  He leaves the big hole alone for now so that the wyrm can get back in. He's still partially shifted. Armor cooldown 1/2

the crush
A soft, golden dome of celestial light radiates out from Noah, washing over the group with gentle warmth that knits torn flesh and eases ragged breath. The worst of their wounds begin to fade, and for a moment, the darkness feels just a little less suffocating.

From beyond the breach where the Mirewyrm had risen and vanished, the tunnel begins to quake. Stones loosen. Dust rains down in slow, shimmering spirals. The sharp scent of void-tainted soil thickens the air. But Sah ’s magic holds.

Where cracks bloom like fractures in ice, earth surges to meet them—packed firm by will and intent, sealing against the worst of the pressure. Stones groan, but they do not fall. The tunnel does not collapse.

For now.

Jack spoke for the group, it seemed, and Hadama considered their opinions solemnly before he spoke. "No," he said first to Noah. "Last time it was planted the Wyrm used gas from a distance to try and kill it before it could take root. Once it was planted, the Wyrm was barred from that level of the island." The Flower repelled the creatures of the Void. Bringing it out would keep the Wyrm at bay, not draw it in closer.

Next he turned to Jack, grimly blunt in his words. "Two of those demigods have been infected before. They are vulnerable to creatures of the Void as we are not. Nor can we rely on Ronin and Remi in this matter. The Family has certain... hostages... that they cannot risk. And while Deimos is strong, he cannot carry this fight alone." He paused and then inclined his head in gratitude. "But you have helped a great deal today, Jack. Thank you. I understand if you must retreat now." Jack was no demigod, nor sworn to service and battle in the way the others were. He had done his part and kept Sah and Noah free of the webbing. Offered good advice. And Hadama would not attempt to keep him in danger against his will.

But his gaze swept those gathered, the weight of his revelations nonetheless carried on broad shoulders before his eyes came to rest on the Halovians. On Noah in particular. "You are the most senior demigod we can rely on right now." His gaze did not waver as he looked upon Vi's first-made living soldier, measuring himself against the hunter, and then inclining his head in admission. "And the strongest who is not vulnerable to the Void's creatures." Physically stronger than the former mermanta, and with many more years experience living as a demigod, using his power in war to fight against the Voice.

He turned his attention to Sah next, gesturing briefly with his trident at the tunnel. "Even Deimos could not hold the tunnels above against the Mirewyrm as you have done." He shifted to include Noah once more. "If we leave today, are you willing to return with he and I to fight the Wyrm alongside whatever waits below?"

But Sah offered a small ray of hope, and Hadama took it gratefully. "It is worth the attempt. I will bolster us." And he readied to throw a net of moonlight over the area in a Lunar Blessing if the Wyrm came within range.

Hadama reveals that they cannot rely on Remi and Ronin and that Sunjata is vulnerable to Void damage. He offers Jack his gratitude for his assistance and assures the captain that he does not blame him for wanting to run away. He reminds Noah that he is the strongest and most experienced demigod not compromised by the Void, and points out that Sah has accomplished more than the first team was able to against the Wyrm's tunnel attack. He asks them if they are willing to return to continue the fight another day alongside Deimos if they all leave now.

And he agrees to Sah's suggestion to try to bait the tunnel with jerky. He prepares to use his Lunar Blessing if the Wyrm comes into range.

JACK

Jack raises his eyebrows at what he assumes is meant to be Hadama's pep talk, and any respect that had been taking root in him for the Tidebreaker's actions thus far already begins to rot. "Don't fluff their egos to get what you want," he snaps. "If Noah is our most senior demigod right now, why ain't he the one gatekeepin' that special box on your back? Why ain't this his decision?"

As for Sah, he can't fault the hybrid for arguably saving his life several times over, but he also can't help but wince at his suggestion. "Took a whole fuckin' monster - freshly dead - to bring it last time. I ain't got high hopes on some tiny scraps of jerky." Already he's shaking the dust and debris from his hair and gathering his magic about himself. "If you opt out an' you catch up, there's room on my ship for you both, if you ain't got any other way of gettin' off this rock." He gestures to the Wild Thunder and the Forsaken.

As for Hadama, it's with tired cynicism that he starts to amble his way out. "The point of this," he reminds him, "is to get to the fuckin' core of this place. It's the flower, not the fight. You decide to stick around, draw more ugly shit here, an' that rose gets destroyed? Ain't no one gonna thank you for killin' an eyeless worm, no matter how hard it gets your dick."

Jack politely disagrees (lmao) and is going to attempt to leave the KQ! He has his Air magic gathered around him in a shield to try and deflect any falling debris.

The Forsaken

The Forsaken’s eyes widened at the information the king gave. Hadama’s voice cut through, calm and unyielding—reminding them all, reminding him, that Noah was the most senior demigod among them now. He knew things he hadn’t about the others. The words hit hard. Not in pride, but in weight—in expectation. And they were true. Noah’s jaw feathered as Jack spoke, preparing to leave. He offered a spot on the ship, but Noah couldn’t go. Not yet.

He shook his head. He stood firm.

”Let Sah try and lure it back, and we,” he said, steady, “we plant the rose. We cleanse this place.” His voice didn’t waver. “I’ll come back. I’ll fight every time I’m called. I’ll never stop trying to save Caido. But this—this is the moment we have. We don’t waste it.”

Even Noah who left his world and spent months in the tundra hunting and hunting and chasing down vengeance knew these stakes were bigger. He couldn’t let them, let the king, use this as a time to be caught in that cycle. So he prepared his spirit stag, should Sah’s luring work, to decimate the wyrm.

Noah prepares to use spirit stag if the wyrm comes back but says they need to plant the rose.

Sah

The information Hadama provided was harrowing and it had Sah going over the details of the situation once more. Jack's rebuttal about egos earned him a few points with the hybrid. If his earth magic was holding where Deimos' hadn't, it wasn't about him. It meant that the wyrm must still be weakened from the previous fight. That was something that they needed to take advantage of.

Even so, this should have been an argument about where to go from here. One where the hybrid could just choose which idea he agreed with more. But why did it feel like he was being forced to choose between loyalties? The sharp words being thrown around had taken on a personal edge. The only thing that he did know was that he wasn't leaving.

Turning to Jack, Sah nodded. "I know. I doubt it'll work, but I want to try." A small grin stretched across his face, "I appreciate the offer, but I'll be staying. I hope that you have a safe trip home." His fellow mage had been an asset in helping to free him from the webbing and given how many times that he'd fought beside the man now, the Wild Thunder saw him as a solid ally. If Jack felt that it was best for him to leave, the hybrid wouldn't hold it against him.

As for Noah and Hadama? Sah snarled, running a frustrated hand through his hair as he eyed the duo. "Fucking hell, you two." Noah was literally family and a fellow Halovian. Sah loved the man like a brother. Hadama was a dear friend, one that Sah had leaned on for wisdom on multiple occasions. He was also Safrin's Demi-god. The goddess to whom the Wild Thunder had sworn life, limb, and soul. The same goddess who had made Sah promise to protect his family from the Family. He couldn't do that if he died.

But if the Family won, it wouldn't matter. No one would be safe. Pushing back the void with the flower and returning home was the goal. But as Sah took stock of his lack of how severe injuries and how the rest of those choosing to stay looked, his resolve hardened.

"If gas is an issue, then we need air magic to deflect it while the flower takes root. I can't do that while simultaneously holding up the tunnel." They couldn't risk the tunnel collapsing on top of the flower while he tried to tend to it. The Wild Thunder's voice took on an edge as his eyes met Noah's, "It's too early to give up on killing the wyrm today. We need to try for a little longer." Even as he spoke, Sah felt his heart crack to be at odds with his cousin. A sentiment that could surely be felt through the bond.

Turning to Hadama, his voice was equally firm, "If this doesn't work, I'm willing to give it one or two more tries, depending on how it goes, with some other bait. But we shouldn't tempt fate by refusing to give up and lose our chance to plant the flower. We might need to plant it while the gas and tunnel still pose a risk." Jack was right about that, but they needed to try at least a couple more times before it was clear that the wyrm was out of reach. That wasn't the case just yet.

Telekinetically, Sah removed the jerky from his bag and spread it around the edge of the hole left by the wyrm. The frustration of the situation colored the hybrid's voice as he called out, "Come get dessert, you damn snake!" He prayed hard to Safrin, and to Vi, that the wyrm would come and that Noah would be able to kill it.

~
Sah states that they can't give up on killing the wyrm just yet, and he's willing to try a little longer before just focusing on planting the flower. He uses his telekinesis to spread the jerky around the hole, so he doesn't have to approach it. He is still partially shifted. Armor cooldown 2/2

the crush
The jerky landed on the edge of the shattered tunnel with a pitiful pat pat pat, scattering in uneven chunks along the fractured stone. The silence that followed was heavy—almost mocking.

There was no answer. No hiss, no breath, no glint of voidlight eyes from the dark.

Then the island screamed.

The Mirewyrm slammed itself against the stone once more—not the floor this time, but the walls, directly to the side of where the group stood. The impact cracked the corridor like an egg. Shattered voidrock groaned as new fractures shot upward into the ceiling. For one harrowing breath, everything held—and then it fell.

Chunks of stone rained down again in brutal succession. Dust exploded around them. Shoulders were clipped, ribs bruised, armour dented. The tunnel roared as it fought to become a tomb.

Only one remained untouched: Jack, already stepping back toward the exit, threw up a sharp gust of air just before the collapse. The magic hissed like a rising wave and deflected the falling debris above him, letting the captain duck low and pivot with practiced grace. Stone slammed shut behind him with a final crack, sealing the narrow gap he’d just vacated.

And just like that—he was gone.
Retreating toward the Descent. Toward the Ark. Toward open air and safety.

The others remained in the ruin and dust, coughing, battered, the Mirewyrm’s fury now impossible to ignore given that they were now barricaded in.

Your randomly assigned posting order is Hadama, Noah, then Sah. You have 24 hrs to reply.

Remember to include a summary at the bottom of your post with all action taken. If weapons/upgrades/abilities/items/shifts/etc are used, please include their desc. from your profile at the bottom of your post as well.

REMEMBER: KQs are rewarding but dangerous. They may cause death and/or permanent changes to your characters.

Jack spoke his piece and retreated as he had said he would, but Hadama’s attention was for Noah and Sah. Noah made his decision and the Tidebreaker inclined his head slowly in acceptance. Reluctant, still, to leave the Wyrm to menace the next team that would come, but Jack was correct.

He had called upon the Forsaken to step up, and he would abide by the decision that Vi’s demigod made.

Sah, caught between them, drew a deep nod from him in appreciation for his willingness to continue, but before he could voice his gratitude the Mirewyrm made its own opinions known. Ignoring the jerky, it shattered the earth around them, closing them in until only the light from his trident cast its glow into the narrow space.

When the earth stilled once more Hadama exhaled slowly and then grimly accepted the inevitable. Sah, hold the area stable. Noah, plant the Rose. I will try to counteract the Wyrm’s gas if it tries to kill the flower.” He turned to present his back with the precious box upon it to the Forsaken. ”Once it has fled we may reconnect the tunnel to the Crush and then leave.” Though if the Wyrm made a final appearance to try and stop them, Hadama would be ready to land a final blow before it could flee again.

Hadama tells Sah to stabilize the tunnel again. He tells Noah to go ahead and plant the Rose, and offers the box to him. He is holding his main action until the Wyrm activates. Then he’ll use his Turn the Tide to heal the party and the Rose from whatever the Wyrm does this round (specifically attempting to use the mist to counteract any gas that may appear, but healing them even if all that happens is another shake). If the Wyrm appears, he’ll use Time Dilation to activate a second action and Gravity Spike it with advantage from Pick on Someone Your Own Size.
