Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

Ronin Taliesin, Vi's White Knight, advisor to the Queen of Torchline, is acting as the world's best tourist today. Stepping into the proceedings with a straw hat, a pair of vibrant red shorts and a flowery shirt in shades of red and yellow, he's got one hand on a picnic basket and the other clasped in Remi's, offering the Bastion a beaming smile for his trouble. "Gods, it's nice to be in a place that feels how Torchline should, isn't it?"
The Suvahasi might be humid, but it's sunny and hot and bright, and with the addition of the stalls, games, food and multitude of colourful hot air balloons, Ronin can already feel Longheat on the way. "Want me to go win a prize for you?" he asks, bobbing his eyebrows at Remi over his sunglasses. "I'm very good at it, or so I've been told."
Remi has dressed to match the spirit of the day with a kind of earnest, slightly chaotic enthusiasm born fro Sugar and Oria helping him dress. His curls are pushed back beneath a floppy sunhat patterned with gaudy tropical fish, and his shirt is an open, breezy thing in turquoise and coral hibiscus print, the sleeves rolled to his elbows. Paired with linen shorts and sandals he absolutely stole from Ronin’s side of their closet, he looks every inch the man who has committed, wholeheartedly, to being a tourist.
He laughs as they pass beneath the shade of one striped canopy. "Mmm I never thought mud would find its way onto a list of things I never want to see again," he admits, boyish disbelief curling at the end of his words. "And yet, here we are."
He gives Ronin’s hand a squeeze, fingers warm and sure against his husband’s, tilting his head just enough that the brim of his hat casts a soft shadow over sea-glass eyes. The games stretch out in front of them in rows of colour and noise; ring tosses, throwing booths, something that seems to involve knocking over coconuts with a ball far too light for the job. Remi’s grin grows brighter, almost impish. "Alright," he murmurs, nudging Ronin toward the nearest stall with his shoulder. "Go on, then. Win something for me."
His eyes sparkle with the kind of affection that always sits just under his teasing. "But if I don’t walk away with the biggest prize they have," he adds, all faux gravity and dimples, "I’ll know it’s because you don’t love me enough, and everyone else will know it too."

Speaks with a thick Italian accent.
Force and magic can be used against Remi without permission.
Vesper’s first instinct is denial—slam the doors shut, pull every shutter tight, pretend there’s nothing to leak in the first place—but Jack’s already standing in the spill of heat beside him, hands in his pockets like he wandered over by accident. The subtlety is familiar and weirdly grounding. Vesper exhales once, low and controlled, before straightening and smoothing his expression into something more neutral.
"I'm not stayin'" he mutters, voice pitched quiet enough not to drift past them. "Just here to talk to Nova." A flick of his eyes confirms she’s still terrorizing the poor egg vendor with enthusiasm that could power an entire city. Good. Let her glow. Let her distract anyone who might be watching him.
His gaze follows Jack’s gesture upward. Balloons drift lazily across the sky, bright patches of colour tugging at the heat. Vesper’s mouth curls, more smirk than smile, dry and edged with something that softens almost imperceptibly when aimed at his father. "You mean in my year an’ a half of bein’ alive?" he says, quiet but unmistakably sarcastic. He huffs under his breath, shaking his head as another balloon lifts off with a cluster of shrieking passengers dangling under it. The sound carries all the way down to the sand. "Nope."
Another balloon dips lower, close enough that the wicker basket creaks. Vesper eyes it with clear distrust. The fabric shivers in the thermal updraft. Someone waves cheerfully. He does not wave back. "You’d never catch me up in one either," he adds, the words slipping smoother and wryer than the knot sitting under his ribs.
Vesper is standing psuedo invisibly with Jack.

Trailing after her sister, the young attuned is all gold and smiles. She snags a drink herself, taking a sip from it as her sister suddenly vanishes – following the blaze of glitter in her wake, drifting toward the stall as she hears the questions and suggestions made to the vendor of the eggs, snorting in spite of it. Arriving beside her sister, she nudges her with her elbow and a chime of a laugh, before she’s reaching for her own egg she’d collected.
Holding it up, it’s got a smidge of mud stuck to the side of it from the monsters she’d fought in the Greatwood and aims to exchange it for whatever they’ve got – sipping from her drink contently, not at all pressed about the design of them (mainly because they’d popped out of an exploded muddling, in Caly’s case).
He doesn’t arrive with anyone to the shenanigans of the desert. Draped in gauzy, sheer clothing aside from his pants, he’s decked out in all kinds of silver jewelry, keeping himself cool with the occasional magical use of some wind. His hair is still a mess, teased up and out of the way as he eyes the hot air balloons, then the rest of the crowd that’s arrived.
Spotting Colt alongside Sunjata, the courtesan’s jaw works slightly as he debates with himself whether to go and talk to her first or to trade in the egg he’d brought with. Choosing the latter, he moves with ease toward the stall to exchange the egg, trying to keep an eye on the rancher so he doesn’t lose her this time to the party.
Let's be honest, Zavien isn't sure why he's here. He hates heights, has a million things to do, and with every step, he feels the ache of emptiness at his side. But Erika made it very clear that he's overworking, and she'd quite literally threatened to drag his butt here herself if he didn't get out of the city. Anyone who knows Erika understands why he's here now, trapsing through the sands to reach the festival in a damp green shirt, not looking particularly thrilled with the whole situation.
His eyes scan the crowd, overwhelmed by the sheer number of people - and none of them being the one person he wishes he could see. A few are familiar, but no one he feels inclined to make small talk with, not right now. He still flashes them polite smiles, nodding his head as he makes his way through the crowd, Sol close on his heels.
Glancing down at his companion, Zavien takes a deep breath, steeling himself for the next few hours. "Come on, let's go find a snack."
The world's a little blurry, or maybe it's my eyes,
The sun beats down, but the cheer of the festivities has the heat losing its intensity, replaced by smiles and laughter. Where she would have preferred the sultry glow of moonlight or the chaotic influence of the Blood Moon, Thal finds the bright chime of the entertainment too much. There are too many things to compete with, too many faces to draw for her to put much effort into her usual seduction antics.
It's slightly refreshing, to worry less about being noticed and just enjoy the sights and smells. She even stops at a balloon popping stall, winking at the attendant as she twists the darts in her fingers. Thal doesn't miss a single throw despite propping her hand on the counter, her eyes not bothering to search for the targets or drift from the young man's face as each pop of plastic echoes between them. It's effortless, an easy way to win a ticket for the hot air balloon.
Ticket in hand, she flicks her tail, a self-satisfied grin on her face as she moves to the intriguing mechanism, ready to see what all the fuss is about.
Thal didn't get any eggs, so she's hopping on a hot air balloon!

Slow dancing in the living room, time stops when I'm kissing you
As anyone who has squandered far too much money on chasing a cheaply stuffed prize in a crane game or fair stand knows, it’s not the prize that actually matters, but the against-all-odds earning of it. Kaisel does not want the massive Tumsea plush; he wants to win it, then give it to Flora like some stitched symbol of proof of his devotion for her. It’s a tale as old as time, really.
Fortunately, she does not upset the integrity of properly winning a rigged fair game, and instead offers every bit of charm she possesses as if she’s prepared for this exact moment her entire life. His strict concentration fractures into a wild grin at the sight of her excessive display of passing breath over the ring. Every part of her curling into mischief and suggestion is an image that never fails to flood him with him utter delight. He meets the lock of her gaze, ‘brows climbing higher and higher until he practically feels his hair lifting to stand on end. ”T-thanks,” he unexpectedly stammers around the lingering image of her seduction of luck.
With that backing him now, and the addition of Spice’s encouragement, it should come as no surprise that when he looses the ring, the last and final ring he needs to make to win, it succeeds. Hard to say if it’s the way the sight of her leaning in distyracted him enough from the fault of being overly focused about something, or if she really did exchange favor over the ring, but Kaisel leaps up with a cheer of triumph. While the carnie rolls his eyes and shuffles around to get the massive reward down, Kaisel runs over and claims Flora in a hug that lifts her up and swings her around.
”YOU FUCKING DID IT!!!” he praises with the runaway enthusiasm of someone who has been nearly tipping over the edge for a game too many now.

COLT
She's a heartbreak coming in cold Trainwreck in a red dress
Something good is a very appealing idea right about now, but she highly doubts eggs will earn her anything worthwhile enough to count for that. Instead she shrugs, aware Sunjata ’s only trying to be kind. She’s working hard not to drag him or anyone else underwater with her if she can help it. Part of why she’d rather be at home, where she could drown in peace, but a bit too late for that now. ”In that case, hopefully I can split it with you, since half of one of these eggs belongs to you.” She’s certain the vendor wouldn’t approve of them each claiming one and half eggs, or turning in a divided one, but maybe one and a half prizes would work.
Pointedly avoiding any drinks at this event, and trying not to look around too much at the festival and its people or events, Nova ’s brightly trilling voice packs quite the punch for her again. Same as before, when she’d run into Nova earlier this season and images of Vesper flared up, so it does again. He’s woven too deeply into places and things, but people are generally safe, except of course the family he holds so dear. The only ones he does, as it turns out. Much as Nova is her own person, he’s firmly in her shadow, making her presence enough to reach and firmly squeeze Colt’s lungs in what feels like a pair of frozen hands. She gropes for Sunjata’s arm instinctively, needing a brace when it feels like internally she’s staggering and isn’t sure when that might work its way outside too.
It keeps her from seeing Hawthorn, who deserves a hell of an apology about now, and she means to as soon as she can breathe again. ”Let’s get in a balloon!” she blurts out suddenly to Sunjata, attention flicking over to the main attraction like the small basket and the wide sky could be the only rescue option now, short from fleeing another festival on foot.
She's a neon nightmare Lookin' for a tab to put some trouble on ice
Received a Gilded Market wig from Remi that resembles her usual hair and is enchanted to stay on better than most wigs | has a reverse centaur tattoo on her left hand with the legs going down her pointer and middle fingers that looks like this.
Flora is already glowing with satisfaction the moment Kaisel stammers, her grin stretching slow and smug beneath the rim of her sunglasses. She knows exactly what image she put in his head, and the faint blink-blink-blink of him trying to recover only makes her lean in closer as if daring him to crack again. As he tosses the ring Flora will draw in a breath with Spice mimicking her anticipation with a tiny, high-pitched trill, little neck stretched long as the ring sails.
When it lands—clean, perfect, triumphant—Flora barely has time to inhale before she’s scooped up, legs lifted off the ground as Kaisel swings her in a whirl of heat and confetti-bright sound. Her laughter rings out across the stalls, bright and delighted, arms looping around his shoulders as Spice spirals around them with an ecstatic trill.
That it's very likely that both of their exes are around—Caly is clearly visible if either of them looked, but Jack has melted into the shadows—doesn't even graze Flora's thoughts right now. This moment is cotton-candy sweet and stupidly perfect: a ridiculous prize, a ridiculous boy, and a win that feels like it belongs in a glossy montage.
As Kai sets her back enough for her feet to brush the sand, Flora cups his cheeks in both hands, turning his flushed, exhilarated down up toward hers. Her voice is low and pleased, warm like she’s letting him in on a secret as she purrs, "Nice toss, babe." And then she kisses him—dramatic, sunlit, head-tiltingly theatrical—like the kind of kiss that absolutely deserves a slow zoom, a lens flare, and a pop anthem swelling behind them.
Losing track of time, the other side of midnight Don't know how it hit us so hard
Noah arrived at the edge of the Suvahasi just as a cluster of balloons drifted overhead. He let the sight of the bright swells of colour rising against the endless blue wash over him as he stood on the desert sand, dismissing his wings that had brought him here. The desert heat shimmered around him, but the air carried a sweet scent that softened the edges of his vigilance just a little.
Stalls crowded the oasis. Noah maneuvered through them carefully and slowly, letting his body soften and his smile warm as he greeted people he knew. He tried taking in the rhythm of the place, letting his shoulders relax. waving to a group of younger Halovian hunters and soldiers--kids, really--he let them scatter towards some games.
He saw Deimos and his son, and decided to make his way over to them. Casually he slipped his hands into the pockets of his pants, hand brushing the small egg in his pocket. He watched as others gathered, too, with lots of eggs all around.
It seemed quite a few had opted to attend the light atmosphere of the festival – for, cautious as ever, Deimos was constantly on the lookout for some dominion of trouble, and how to get his son out of it. But then he noted the way individuals had relaxed, keen on prize attempts or picnics, and he permitted the smallest sigh to filter through, for his spine to not be so rigid and taut.
Once Erebos had claimed his prize, he bent down for half a moment, hoisting the youth onto his shoulders. Between the raucous of wild giggles permeating through, he shook his head, snorting, extending a nod of his head to Noah as the man came towards them. “What do you want to try first?” From the greater vantage point, Erebos would be able to see the assortment of games and food, and only needed to simply deign anything of his choosing.
Pleased and content with the arrangement, his excitement only grew as he was hoisted upwards. Laughing, giggling, teetering on those fringes, his hands leaned down upon his father’s head as he gazed around the new grand heights. He waved at Noah at the other man’s approach, with an enthusiastic “Hi!” that befitted all the times he’d done so as a toddler, and then his gaze seemed to go everywhere.
The sights, the sounds, the smells, all invigorated and enticed, and while he was very tempted to eat first, the inclination of games and prizes was a quicker draw and lure. “Let’s do the duck one!” Something with hooks – he heard enough of other children squealing to know it must be something delightful.
Humming under her breath, once she was done with the egg kiosk, she skipped over to where Iskra was, head buzzing, the aroma of popcorn causing her to drift over and pluck some of out the carton. “Um, fuck yes,” she gasped, stealing several more while her eyes flickered along the tops of kiosks and game stalls. “Do you want to play something first?” Because despite her covetous glances towards the hot air balloons, the crowd and line was already massive – meaning they could swing around and do other things until the interest waned and they could beeline over.
Plus there were prizes. Like shiny shit or gigantic plushies. Melita hoped some weapons would be given out too.
And she was trying to be considerate. Iskra had held the enthusiasm at bay – simply because she wanted to do something – oooh, there were ducks.
