Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

Wind ruffled her feathers, lifting her small body on the current of air as she drifting curiously above the enclosure for the smaller barn cats. They watched her with flicking tails, crouching low in their hiding place, ears twitching as she chirped a teasing song. She knew they wouldn't be able to get her from where she flew. They knew that too. But if she got closer, maybe they could make a game out of it...
She dove down with a quiet whistle of playful challenge. Tilting back, she caught the air in her six wings, slowing until her talons reached out to grab the branch where she perched. Nova fluffed out her colorful feathers like a giant ball of fuzziness to entice them forward, giggling to herself as she saw a few scurry to the grass beneath her tree. She didn't notice the one who began to climb the trunk of her tree, too focused on the others who looked ready to leap for her tail feathers.

Noe meandered down the paths of the Celestine, taking her time to appreciate the various creatures in each enclosure. Last time she'd been here, she'd been rather depressed to see the remnants of Stormbreak so broken and scattered across the sea. But this time, she had a new project to contemplate, a new direction to go in life, and things didn't seem quite so sad. It was still tragic to lose her home, but at least now she could try and build a new one.
There was an enclosure nearby for small barn cats, and Noe nearly drifted right past it until she saw a colorful, six-winged bird in a tree above. The cats seemed mesmerized, tails lashing as they seemed to contemplate how to get to the bird. Noe leaned on a fence nearby to watch as one started to creep up the trunk of the bird's tree. "Watch out," she called to the bird, voice idly amused. While the bird did seem to be antagonizing the cats, she had no desire to watch it get eaten, either.
And when I meet the band, they ask, "Do you have a man?" I can still say, "I don't remember"

The myriad of colorful cats watched her intently, some bunching their haunches as they prepared to leap at her. She was pretty high up, but her tucked wings still stood at the ready, unwilling to risk her feathers even if it seemed unlikely that they'd be able to reach her. Wiggling her butt at the cats, Nova chirped again and shuffled her feet.
Her toying was interrupted by a voice, Nova's head lifting to look at a woman who walked nearby. [i]'Watch out'? Watch out for what?
Just as the thought was hitting her, the orange cat who'd scaled her tree lunged for her, hitting her harder. Nova let out a screeching sound, a few of her feathers scattering as she lost her grip on the branch. She scrambled to escape its grasp, wings flapping wildly as she pushed against the bond.
The compulsion slammed into the cat, stunning it to stand frozen with claws outstretched and a wad of feathers in its teeth. It gave Nova a chance to flit away, finding a different branch out of reach from the cats. With a small huff of indignation, she stuck her beak into her feathers, smoothing out where the cat had managed to pull a few of the rainbow plumage.

Noe winced as the cat slammed into the bird. Maybe her warning had come too late. She looked away as the poor thing began to screech and scramble to escape, not wanting to watch as it became the cat's next meal. But to her surprise, the screech of indignation was the only sound the bird made, and when Noe looked back up, it was to find the bird preening itself, smoothing out its feathers, no longer in range of any of the cats.
Bemused, Noe tilted her head. She'd never see a bird like this one. Maybe it was special, or maybe it was just lucky. As the orange cat hopped down from the tree to slink back to its brethren, the girl propped her head on one hand. "Nice escape," she commented vaguely. "Would have been a shame to see you get eaten."

Nova turned from where she was smoothing her feathers, looking down at the woman with her beady white eyes. She cocked her head, settling her wings against her side as she huffed another breath. After a moment of close scrutinization, she spread her wings and placed them back against her side as she puffed her chest.
Of course she didn't get eaten. She would have shifted to her Tide Jaguar and been the one doing the eating.
Tilting her beak into the air, Nova gave a chirp of prideful indignation before diving forward on six wings. She caught an updraft, swiping her claws close to woman before flying off to find somewhere else to explore. And maybe some more animals to tease.
