Character of the Season
Once known as the Butcher of Whitebrim, he's now The Butcher of Dygra, stepping forward as the first created demigod of the Ancients. There is no question that Astaroth casts an intimidating silhouette. Tall, domineering and dangerous, if looks could kill you'd be dead already, but to get up close and personal with the Grounds' resident cannibal tells a much different story. Dripping with charm and clad in only the finest attire, Asta is a gentleman monster, as polite as they come and committed to his role as security for the Dusklight and those who have earned his loyalty. Be careful of that smile, though - those teeth are sharp.
Congratulations, Asta!

One problem with starting fun shit sometimes, Melita was quickly noticing, was that they then had to clean up after said fun. For all the work they’d put in with dragging out lines and buoys, they were going to have to do the same fuckery again, except now it was removing them from the waves.
The cold breeze rumbled along the shoreline though, and the Honeybee couldn’t quite suppress the shudder that moved around them – frowning a little as they advanced upon the sand and dunes, pondering how much chillier the sea might be. “Does it feel a little colder than usual to you?” Marked by her heavy Ludo sweatshirt, she still wore her bright skirt underneath, and deeply regretted it. Perhaps today would be more ideal on the surface, and she went to readjust the anklet on her leg.
Tilting her head though, not trying to delay the inevitable surely, she grinned at Kaisel, keeping the mode light for now. “How was riding the dolphin though?” She’d been rather distracted by Iskra, and hadn’t really absorbed the whole scene.
"That feels like a very bad joke set up, and I'm not falling for it." He shoots her an unimpressed glance, muttering something under his breath about staying cool, or not being cool enough to notice. Certain that one of those predictable answers was her punchline.
It is nearly as chilly as it had been during longnight though. A bit warmed by the sun, although it doesn't seem to have properly burned through the morning cloud cover yet, leaving everything muted and grey, even the sea. His foot slides into the water with a reluctance that only redoubles when the wet, cold creep of it encircles his ankle. He perseveres though, and before long the tide is swaying at his knees. In one hand, he has his leviathan chakram, having noticed a great deal of seaweed had built up on the lines and would need hacking away to clear.
"Oh, that was great!" he brightens considerably, forgetting puns and the teeth of the sea in favor of Longnight's dark revelry. "Well, first I was the encantado, you know, to get into the proper headspace. Then I was on one, and that was...unique." He grins before diving all the way in, popping up behind a wave and swimming towards the buoy line.
"You ever get on one?"

Maybe they weren’t ever going to be friends, because even with the simplest of questions, his answers made her want to punch him in the face. Her face said as much, earning a massive eye roll and a huff of breath that pooled back into the air on a warm puff momentarily. Not even bothering to dignify a response, she casually and cooly placed her feet upon the surface of the waves, and began walking across, arms still crossed over her chest as if this was an everyday experience.
Even his little cheery tones irked and urged her suspicions, though perhaps she was now overly irritated. Pulling at some seaweed that had collected on the lines, she tossed it aside and began disassembling the buoys, casting them back in his direction while he talked.
Though she glanced at him when he said he’d become the encantado…wondering if there was some sudden Attuned bombardments she’d missed…when no, that’s…what he’d meant. Briefly baffled, she shook her head, muttering something under her breath and moving with grace and poise along the waves. Only when he popped back up did she arch her brow, gathering another round of floating seaweed in her grasp. “Right, but like, did it give you trouble?” It’d been hard to tell from the shoreline. “No, I haven’t,” but mainly because she’d once accidentally helped murder someone who’d been catching a ride on a skeleton monster, and somewhow wondered if that would ever come back to haunt her. “My uncle’s husband once rode a giant chicken through here though.”
Oblivious to the way he's slid beneath her skin, irritation a common participant on her expression, at least in his experience, Kaisel does not alter or caution himself. Dodging the seaweed that plops nearby from Mel's efforts, Kaisel grips his buoy line with one hand and clears the seaweed with the other, the sharp edge of the chakram sliding across it like scissors melting paper apart from a roll. Kicking his feet through the water and hauling himself along with his one hand, he glides down the line with ease, only stopping at each round, floating ball. When he gets there, he briefly vanishes beneath the water to unhook the lines from the buried anchors, so they can haul the entire cord in once more.
Popping back up after doing that with one, shaking his wet hair like a dog to clear the saltwater from his face, spitting it away from his lips, he glances over at her with consideration while the blade gets back to gnawing kelp. "Well, I didn't win, that's for sure, and it's a lot harder than I thought to stay seated on something so smooth fast." Which feels like the start of a dick joke, but he continues. "But, the encantado itself was friendly, if a bit unruly." Tame is a word he's not sure he would have used, although the owner seemed jovial and content enough to do so.
Departing briefly again, like a duck going ass up in the water, he pops up with another shake and sweep of water and hair. "Uh, what?" He's not entirely sure he's heard her right, because uncle's husband is already the start of something being stretched out, and rode a giant chicken feels like an ad lib result. "I have so many questions, you need to say more."

Finally not wholly consumed with vexation, she permitted both hands to drag lines across the surface of the water, kicking aside random floating seaweed as he spoke about the dolphin experience of it all. She opened her mouth to say something offensive and demeaning, or maybe that dick joke, but closed it sharply, when she realized she’d baited him with information. Stupid information, but it was something to hold and lord over him just as he’d done to her.
A Cheshire grin settled on her features, turning whatever pouting displays had been there into wicked machinations – no sense in hiding her seditious reverie. “Yeah. A twenty-foot chicken went rampaging through Haulani,” like this was normal. Something in the back of her mind ached that she couldn’t quite name – perhaps the melancholic distinction that all of those who’d protected Torchline from said motherclucker were dead and gone. Not from the gigantic hen, but other circumstances. “What else do you need to know?”
Kaisel's eyes blink rapidly over at her as his hands work the buoy line. Seaweed gets cut and tossed, and he scooches further down, rinse and repeat. "TWENTY FEET!?" Astounded and amused in equal measure Kaisel laughs boisterously. Such a usually small, dim-witted thing that more often than not is on his dinner plate sounds ridiculous as some sort of rampaging kaiju down Haulani.
His giggling hauls up short as his hand touches something unexpected. The rough exterior of a riverstar startles him, his hand snapping back, the immediate worry of sharks making his legs tuck in tight too. As soon as he registers what it is though he eases, huffing out a breath and picking up the riverstar and chucking it away into the sea with a plop. This, as they'll soon learn, must have been undignified enough to warrant its ire.
"So, I'm guessing it got toasted and everyone had a big feast afterwards." He muses, ducking under water again to unhook the next anchor and cord. As he's swimming back to the surface, he nearly dodges the underwater ninja star, but thinks little of it as he breaks back up for air. "Did he ride it...on purpose? How would you rate it compared to the encantados?" Before he can muster any further questions, the river star flips up out of the water and shoots for Kaisel.

She hummed while she worked, in a far better mood now that they were discussing ridiculous shit instead of mulishly jabbing at one another. “Of course,” she preened, though imagining the round of potentially large eggs did make her ponder over omelets and scrambled proportions, and her stomach suddenly began rumbling of its own accord. “I don’t think he did it on purpose…it just sorta happened. But I bet it was a little more fun than the dolphins because of the height.” Still zero control over said animal, other than mauling it out of existence eventually. And truthfully, without experiencing it for themselves, no one else would know otherwise.
Not paying much attention to Kaisel, her hands worked quickly over the lines, well versed in sailor knots and configurations, only glancing up when she heard a splash – briefly registering the flung river star seeking its vengeance. She let out a brief snort and cackle, before all the vehemence, violence, and bloodshed worked its way through her vicious little soul, and fired off a round of her confetti cannon towards the river star.

Way too blessed to be stressed
The grand chicken would have to wait for his wondering because the fuck?! The splash near him draws his attention up, the rocketing riverstar twisting in a pinwheel of saltwater for a moment before it comes twirling right back towards him like a very unfriendly version of his own weapon.
Confetti flies with an all too celebratory pop of sound and color, the bits of it floating pleasantly down into the water and promptly soaking up the moisture and beginning to sag and sink with their new weight. It clips the riverstar, sending it's path spiraling away with a kerplunk into the water, although as it goes it still manages to clip Kaisel in passing, scoring a red line on his shoulder that surely would have been a much fiercer set of teeth had it not been redirected.
Kaisel blinks, not quite believing the angry, violent little thing. "Wh—" he starts to say, but is cut off but another spray of water and the returned, glistening body of the riverstar as it reappears with no lack of outrage despite the tattered end of one arm's corner. It angles for Kaisel once more through the air. "What is this thing's problem!?" he demands, grunting as he flicks his chakram towards it to meet it midair.

The Honeybee did a little yawn, wholly unbothered by the scene. She’d seen so many monstrous heights and dealt with a multitude of issues, that the spinning little deathstar barely made her blink – and if she hid a snicker behind her hand when it spiraled into Kaisel, so be it. “Probably you,” she countered with a light laugh, before elegantly pressing her feet across the surface of the water, intending to gain closer access while the Accepted flung the chakram around.
Which was a very recognizable weapon.
Huh she thought, mainly to herself. She’d seen Koa have it. Then, of course, the originator, Wessex. Funny how often the thing seemed to get passed around. The nostalgia wasn’t going to keep her from her own chaotic intrigues though, and letting those thoughts sink away, she waited until his serrated armament returned, before setting off another blast of cannon and confetti at the creature. “They’re super hostile,” she noted afterward, in case he hadn’t noticed. “Doesn’t take much.”
The thing returns to annoy and pester with all the qualities of a Hel. It seems hellbent on targeting him thus far, even after the cannoneer did her work, which surely speaks to its intelligence. He scoffs over at Mel, the jab landing like any good friend or sibling, planting itself right amid the danger so long as he wasn't in mortal peril (and even then, perhaps a quip or two could suit).
Catching his chakram as it boomerangs back to him, another tip of the riverstar sheared away by the blade, Kaisel watches more confetti firepower dapple its tough exterior with welts of damage. The double assault seems to have been enough to really alter its trajectory, the spinning star splashing down well away from Kaisel as a result. "Oh, so it takes after you then!" he calls over to her with a daring laugh, and he does think it may well and truly be done there, the floating paper like the end of the celebratory conquest of this patch of sea. Back to work.
Except not. The fucking thing returns like fury is armor it could bear, absolutely picking a fight it can't win. "Uuuuuugh, give it a rest!" he complains to it as it sails back up in the air, water spraying off it as it angles back towards Kaisel again. He sends his chakram with an awkward throw back towards it, fighting to hang onto the buoy line and stay afloat while also targeting this mermaid ninja star. "Are you having a blast?" he shouts over to Mel, attempting to go head to head for annoyance with the star.

At the quip, Melita bared a dazzling grin, granting a flutter of her eyelashes as if she was monstrously pleased by being ‘hostile’ and the probability of being ‘a horror to work with’. “Aww, thank you,” as she unfurled another blast of her cannon towards the bitchy little sea demon – eyes on the prize of destruction and mayhem. The whole entirety of what they’d been working on had been completely dissolved for the sake of malice, chaos, and violence (of which, she’d always be for).
Ignoring the fact that the river star seemed to be their makeshift ‘get along’ shirt, she watched the awkward throws amidst the multitudes of confetti layered upon the beast, humming along. Even the ridiculous pun couldn’t thwart Melita’s cheery, vehement, and vicious mood, tilting her head to summon her own stupid and asinine joke. “Yeah – this is all cannon fodder to me!”
Her enthusiasm for violence is both terrifying and hilarious to him. Although he had not meant the words to be anything more than playful insult, her heartfelt appreciation of them strikes a different sort of humor, and his grin races out on a laugh, even with the riverstar twirling above. She is exactly the sort of confident and crazy that's easy for him to get along with, although ruffling her feathers is also hella fun.
Still focused on just him, the riverstar's aim might be consistent, but it isn't good, not with other shit flying to bonk the thing and throw off its route. His chakram shears more of it away, one of the limbs a nub now, and the cannon blows two other ends clean off. It looks like a Carl's Jr. chicken nugget star that's already had a massive bite taken out of it. "Nice one!" he praises as he reclaims his chakram, admiring their handiwork as the star goes sailing past him and back to the water.
Expected by now, it rises back again after a dunk, oozing from its wounds, but not deterred as it winds up towards Kaisel once more. Laughing in response to her return, Kaisel hucks his chakram towards the riverstar another time. "Just need to get the Firecracker a mirror ball and you're set for parties and pummeling."

“I wonder if they can regenerate,” she pondered out loud, knowing regular sea stars could, but it would certainly be a slower process…anyway, something to mull over as the beast plummeted back into the sea. She adjusted her stance along the water, moving with the current and waves, careful to avoid any chakram throwing. She gave a Cheshire grin at the praise, before her gaze went back towards the fathoms, waiting for another opportunity to strike.
Once it rose, without new limbs, and headed for Kaisel once again, she snorted – adjusting her aim and readying her fire. Following her cannon blast after the hurled armament went sailing towards their shared opponent, her smile grew in depths, dimpling at the sides at his idea. “Oooh, don’t tempt me. Maybe a mirror ball that could blind someone…,” and on that notion, unfurled another dose of confetti and damage.
His chakram sang true once more, this time managing to nick the creature on its return arc back to Kaisel, much to his satisfaction. Another blast of cannonfire sprinkles more damage into the riverstar, and more merry wisps of smoke and colored paper rain down with a particularly cheerful array of motion over the sea. Kaisel can't help but laugh at the display, especially as the force once more throws the star's aim too far and it goes plopping harmlessly back into the water.
Visions of mirrorballs decked out on her skyship inspire Kaisel further, and he sucks in a breath to tell her, "yeah then you could be dangerous sometimes and party ship other times! Maybe be the dance floor at our weddi—" The rest of his words, and breath, are abruptly sealed shut as the riverstar flings itself directly over his mouth, tattered body whole enough to seal his lips and fold one partial arm around his nostrils. Kaisel's eyes widen, and he reaches up with his free hand to try and peel it away, but doing so only seems to encourage it to suction down harder onto his face, spines reaching to anchor into his skin. His chakram-hand, the large blade a bit too bulky to be giving him such a close shave, is looped over the buoy line to keep him afloat, but he's beginning to twist and splash in a rising panic.
