Character of the Season
Once known as the Butcher of Whitebrim, he's now The Butcher of Dygra, stepping forward as the first created demigod of the Ancients. There is no question that Astaroth casts an intimidating silhouette. Tall, domineering and dangerous, if looks could kill you'd be dead already, but to get up close and personal with the Grounds' resident cannibal tells a much different story. Dripping with charm and clad in only the finest attire, Asta is a gentleman monster, as polite as they come and committed to his role as security for the Dusklight and those who have earned his loyalty. Be careful of that smile, though - those teeth are sharp.
Congratulations, Asta!

the ocean does not apologize for its depth and the mountains do not seek forgiveness
Ursur hunting was nothing new; it seemed almost like a weekly chore once the new year came around. Usually it was associated with trackers finding more and more impeding and threatening their hunts, today it came with the caveat and necessity for impending snowman guards. And, perhaps, the opportunity to get some rust off and let age-old friends share in destruction again, for old’s times sake.
“Heard there was one just around this bend,” he pointed towards the terrain clustered with rocks, a noteworthy place for predators and prey, the former for ambushes and the latter for protection. Dragging the sled behind him, as eventually they would need to bring the carcass home, he glanced around at the gathered, a mild smile tucked into the corner of his mouth. “Figure if we use our shifts initially, we do not have to draw it out,” at least, for himself, Ronin, and Remi – capable of flying overhead and immediately assaulting. Colt was going to be another factor, so he directed his attention upon her. “Do you want to catch a ride with any of us?” She’d have enough cover to bombard with arrows, and hopefully not lassoing. “Unless there are other suggestions,” as he waited a beat, because while he’d done this a number of times, others hadn’t, and he had no issue taking their regards into formation and plotting.

This is a RQ/PQ to kill an ursur and will be using stats/rolling. Please post anything you’re bringing, any addition to the plan, and start heading out to find the ursur!
Deimos is bringing everything listed on his profile, except his companions. He’s also got a sled with some rope and tools on it.

"No no, hang on," Ronin is saying as he jogs a bit to catch up with Deimos, his smile audible behind the scarf wrapped around his nose and mouth. "I understand the ursur hunting completely, but I feel like we moved on from the snowman guards way too quick. Tell me again what they do." Grinning properly now, he ruffles a bit of snow from his hair with a gloved hand and glances over his shoulder at Remi to see if he also has any thoughts about this, before SIGH listening to the plan in earnest.
"That sounds fine with me, though if you want someone to draw it more out into the open, I can always tempt it out as a luxere." He might have made a filthy joke about how tempting some people find his ass, but given present company and the fact that it isn't even lunchtime yet, Ronin opts to leave that to the imagination. "If Colt wants to hitch a ride with me that way she's welcome to as well, though I'd recommend perhaps staying with Remi as the safe bet." He grins.
Ronin is here and with everything on his profile except Sugar. He agrees with shifting but also offers to be bait as a luxere if they want.
As Ronin glances back at him, Remi closes his fingers abruptly around the snowball he’s been shaping, tucking both hands behind his back with all the innocence of someone who absolutely hasn’t been waiting for the perfect opportunity to throw it at his husband’s head. His eyes narrow toward the distant rocks instead, expression settling into exaggerated concentration as though he’s spotted some minute disturbance across the tundra that requires his full attention. Only once Ronin turns back to Deimos does Remi let the pretence fall away. His mouth curves into a broad, boyish grin, and he flicks his gaze toward Colt, bouncing his eyebrows conspiratorially as if the continued success of his ambush now rests entirely upon her silence.
Ronin’s suggestion draws his attention more properly toward Colt, amusement softening as he considers the choice being offered. "Up to you," he murmurs with an easy shrug. His gaze shifts briefly toward the rocky bend ahead, measuring the terrain and the likely violence waiting beyond it, before returning to her. "But if you and I want to stay on foot, I’ll be sure nothing hurts you." There’s no boast in it, nor any particular concern that the promise might be difficult to keep. Remi simply means it. Whatever claws or teeth find their way through his magic and toward Colt can be made his instead, pain transferred into a body that has endured far worse.
Then his eyes slide toward the back of Ronin ’s head once more and when the Knight's attention settles back on Deimos, Remi finally swings his arm forward and sends the snowball sailing neatly at the back of his husband’s head.
Remi has everything on his profile except for Oria. He offers to soak damage for Colt and throws a snowball at Ronin.

Drifting behind the Knight and the Sword, tugging her jacket closer to her ears, Colt glances sidelong at Remi's busy hands. She says nothing, though her lips quirk to the side in a subtle line of mirth, puckered against the broader smile that might blow his cover.
At the sound of her name, she visibly perks up, gaze swinging between the men and their plans as snow crumples underfoot. "Sorry?" The apology isn't one, more of a foot being propped between a door attempting to close too quickly. "It sounded like you just generously offered me a ride on the back of the bait." She regards Ronin with fresh interest and an arched brow that fully shapes her amused disbelief. "Fun as that sounds, I think I'll pass." She shakes her head faintly, breath puffing out as it leaves her in something half laugh and half scoff. Anyone would be a safer bet for her to be with in that case.
She does look back towards Remi though, the humor settling into a warmer, wider smile. "I don't want you worrying about little ol' me." She nods her chin towards the horizon line. "Just get me in range and I'll keep with the cover, let my arrows bite from afar." Hopefully the only damage he'd be soaking would be from directly doling it out; his strikes enough to blunt the beast's momentum, and her's too distant or too minor to draw the full ire. Between all of them, they'd be lethal before long.
Watching the snowball sail with complete satisfaction, Colt continues as if this is ordinary and there's no fuckery afoot. "I think having Ronin play as bait works best. We can get the ursur into the best position for us to attack then."

Far across the frozen expanse, a massive shape moves slowly against the pale horizon. Each step is deliberate, heavy enough that even at a distance the ground seems to feel it. An Ursur.
Its broad back rises and falls beneath a thick coat, frost clinging to its fur as it lumbers onward, head low and shoulders rolling with quiet power. It does not hurry, nor does it stray from its path, existing with the unbothered confidence of something that has little to fear.
Whether it continues on without notice or gradually closes the distance is difficult to judge from so far away. For now, it remains a looming presence, vast and patient, moving steadily through the cold.

the ocean does not apologize for its depth and the mountains do not seek forgiveness
He could recall moments like these that would’ve had them all on edge years and years ago – and now it seemed to be a source of amusement with snowballs lobbing and conversations reeling around luxere bait and guards. A testament to how far they’d all come; especially as Deimos’ grin lit up, boyish and mischievous at the White Knight’s inquiry. “It is in the name. Snowmen who guard,” he winked with a slight wrinkle to his nose. “You could probably do the same with sand in Torchline,” imagining sandcastles erupting from the beach and assailing random intruders on the shore.
They discussed parameters and particulars, but no sooner had they come to conclusions, then the damned ursur came striding through, regardless, wholly unbothered with their presence. The Sword could barely muffle his laughter, but not the smile reappearing on his features. Deimos was never inclined to use anyone as bait, but given the individuals they had clustered, it sounded more like a form of entertainment. “Well, up to you. Looks like we will not have to go much further.”
Tucking the sled away, as they wouldn’t need it until later, he nodded towards the beast beginning to lumber their way in the foreground – head lifting as it began to catch their scents. “All right, head out,” and he shifted, airborne as a thunderbird to head the initial approach.
--
Oh look it’s an ursur! Head towards it from above or prance about – time to get in range!
"Sand guards?" Ronin's eyes widen in comical consideration, the smile that threatens on his lips suggesting that he knows exactly what topic he's going to bring to his next regional asset meeting with Flora. But before he can get too carried away with the idea of sand fortresses rising up in Torchline's defence, a snowball clocks him directly in the back of his head and causes him to stumble forward.
"Remi!" The accusation leaves his lips, equal parts affection and annoyance (because he already knows who is responsible even without looking), and he's rubbing at the back of his icy cold head as he whips around to face his all-too-innocent husband. "Your loss," he says cheerfully to Colt as he stoops to scoop up a snowball of his own, but wouldn't you know it?
Remi is saved by the ursur.
Narrowing his eyes at the Bastion and turning towards the enormous creature instead, Ronin shrugs his shoulders. "Alright, I'll see if I can get its attention," he decides - may as well keep it from charging off in any random direction if they can, right?
And so, dropping his snowball and leaping - quite literally - into action, White Knight becomes fluffy-tailed deer in mere moments, tossing his head (no antlers yet this season) and prancing directly into view of the ursur.
Ronin shifts into an ursur and prances out to get the ursur's attention!
Remi answers Colt ’s smile with one of his own, broad shoulders rising beneath his coat. "It isn’t a worry at all." His eyebrows bounce as though he’s about to let her in on something far more solemn than the expression on his face suggests. "It is my duty from Mort, though, so I’ll be taking it very seriously." The twinkle in his sea-glass eyes ruins the gravity of the promise almost immediately. He wouldn’t allow so much as a claw to reach Colt if he could prevent it, but that hardly means he intends to conduct himself with any particular dignity while doing so.
Case in point, the moment the snowball bursts against the back of Ronin ’s head, Remi turns his face toward the sky and frowns thoughtfully at the clouds, as though they're suddenly incredibly interesting. Only when his name is called does he glance back at his husband, surprise widening his eyes. "What?" he asks, with such polished innocence that it might almost have been convincing had his grin not already begun to betray him.
The appearance of the ursur saves him from any immediate retaliation, though Remi only stares at the massive creature as it advances, entirely untroubled by its size or serrated tusks. When Ronin shifts and bounds into its view, the Bastion’s attention follows the movement of his fluffy tail with open fondness. "I love when he does that," he murmurs, chuckling to himself before sweeping one arm toward the path ahead and beckoning Colt onward. "Ladies first."
Even as he says it, his magic reaches silently for her, fastening the invisible tether between them so that whatever the ursur might manage to inflict upon Colt will find Remi instead.

She isn't quite sure how to take what Remi says when the lines themselves compete with what sits between them. She believes him, figuring that being employed by the divine does not make skirting any directive a wise or desirable choice, but equally, he's so damn cheeky about the whole affair that she finds herself unusually skeptical. "Uh huh," she answers with no small amount of suspicion, gaze narrowing like the chicken gif as she evaluates him. "Guess I'll just try and ride the ursur then, put you to the test." She shrugs, grabbing at nonchalance like it's the only fair return for this.
At the exclamation of a name Colt stiffens. When Ronin whips around, she's only guilty by association, but her face straightens at once as if amusement is enough to turn her hands red. It cracks the moment the what draws out with all the complaint of someone being framed. Clucking her tongue in something like disappointment, aimed at herself, her lips slant to one side. "Can't win 'em all," she laments in return to Ronin.
The moment slides into something actually serious, for her at least, as Deimos points out that the lumbering beast is at a proximity much closer than anticipated. Her mirth falters as her focus settles on it, scanning its easy stride for any understanding or knowledge she could glean that'd help. Pulling her bow off her shoulders, Colt readies as Ronin dashes off and Deimos climbs the sky.
"What?" she tosses out to Remi, casting a glance back at him, utterly unable to help herself. "When he runs away from you?" Tucking the smile into her cheek, she crouches down a little lower and moves with intention over the tundra, using Ronin's motion as cover to scuttle to the nearby rocks that are in range for cover, and if there's any sensation of Remi cloaking around her, the spike of her adrenaline and the cut of the wind don't tell her.

Amidst and amongst the banter, they moved outwards, whether tethered amongst souls, flying overhead, crouched in amongst rocks, or prancing, openly defiant towards one of the (many) dangerous features of the tundra. Within an instant Ronin ‘s lone luxere demonstration did enough to warrant and gain the bear’s attention – as it reared up on its hind legs, catching intermingling scents and trying to work through the sources of so many foreign lures – and then settled for the deer.
Which, inevitably, as it started to chase down Ronin, put it in perfection position to be fired upon.
Swift despite its size, its mass would be a prime target for everyone nearby. Amused, battle-hardened, and ready, Deimos half-shifted, utilizing thunderbird wings as he drifted above and away from claws and sharp teeth. Hovering there, he tilted his head, glancing around to ensure there’d be no crossfire from his constituents, before layering down portions of Mastered Air and all its stacked, potent, and powerful precision.

RONIN
the white knight
Ronin's distraction works, and he'll take his thanks in the form of a fluffy ursur hat at some point. (TYVM Deimos). For now he's content, clearly, with prancing and bucking his way across the hard-packed and frozen ground, such that it takes him longer than it might be considered wise to realise the bear is charging at him. Freezing for a second in the deer equivalent of o fuck, the Knight has been with this shift for long enough, luckily, that instinct doesn't entirely take over.
Instead, shaking himself off and springing away a further few feet, his hooves skitter on the ice shortly before morphing back into boots, and Ronin skids to a stop in a half crouch with three firebolts already burning to life around him. Trusting Remi to already be doing what Remi does best, and for Colt to be out of the firing line, he wastes no time in flinging the bolts back towards the ursur.
Ronin shifts back and then fires three firebolts at the ursur!

Remi only grins at the threat, broad shoulders rising beneath his coat. "Be my guest," he invites, sounding far too pleased by the prospect of seeing how quickly Colt might regret trying to ride an ursur.
His attention follows Ronin as the luxere prances past, and at Colt’s teasing, Remi glances sideways at her with a boyish smile brightening his face. "If you were Attuned, you’d get it." The explanation is deliberately unhelpful, though there is truth in it. Some part of him simply enjoys watching his husband move, while the many predators coiled beneath his skin track the quick flick of Ronin’s tail and the spring of his hindquarters with a different, older sort of interest.
As Deimos’ air magic bears down and Ronin’s firebolts streak toward the ursur, Remi merely lifts a hand to rake his fingers through his curls. The invisible tether remains fixed firmly around Colt, but otherwise he appears almost offensively relaxed. "I doubt this will take long," he remarks, watching the combined assault descend upon the creature. Remi maintains his tether with Colt

A scrunched up face is all she offers in return to Remi before they're on the move, needing no further details about his deer husband's ass, thank you.
In position, Colt rests her shoulder against the rock cover, one hand reaching back to pull out an arrow from her quiver. She nocks it to her bow as Deimos and Ronin strike, well away from their firing line. She moves to lift her arm, head lowering to take aim, but holds until she has a shot clear of anyone, the ursur her only target. It requires a moment, and at one point she lifts her head to glance towards Remi as he all but lounges like a teenager during school hours. "Would go faster if you did something," she quips, the sound bright enough not to be too cutting, but she means it quite literally.
Slipping back into the raise of her loaded bow, the shot clear now, Colt draws her arm back. One eye squints across the tundra, guiding the aim and the arc of the release. She breathes out, steadying, and with it the arrow looses with a twang for the ursur. It's about then that she whirls around towards Remi, arms dropping. "You did the fucking thing, didn't you?" she accuses as if affronted. "Why didn't you say so, I would have done a trick shot."

Upon request, Ronin could have any ursur hat he wanted; but for now, the concentration and focus heeded and needed was demonstrated aptly by White Knight and Sword. The Mastered Air components rankled and bit into the beast and it hesitated, paused, as the pain lit across its senses. Ronin ’s firebolts followed suit with a blast of searing, potent upheaval, puncturing and piercing deep into the bear’s ribs. Colt ’s attempts, for whatever reason, didn’t land. The arrow flew askew, landing innocently in the snow. Regardless, she wasn’t noticed – it was far too busy roaring and searing with its obvious misery.
Ordinarily, this would make most creatures back off. Alas, most things in the Tundra didn’t account for afflicted agony. If anything, it further ignited their aggression – and with Ronin right there, it gathered its lamenting limbs and steamrolled towards the demigod, hoping to get within close enough range to claw and tear.
Clenching his jaw automatically, because he knew Ronin was perfectly capable of getting himself out of the way, but old habits died hard, Deimos followed on thunderbird wings, before firing his Air Magic combinations again.
