Phoebe released a shuddering breath as Remi pulled her to his chest. Her arms snaked around his waist, holding her own wrist behind his back. Tears rose and a few rolled down her cheeks, but for the moment, she did not want to crumble. She did not want to fall apart. When she told Emmett, she knew it was inevitable that she would break, but Remi was different. He was brotherly, his comfort and company soothing but separate from her pain. He was only part of the situation as her dearest friend. Still, his whispered apologies and kiss atop her head threatened to break her resolve; but she persisted.Gently she shook her head against his chest. ”Don’t be. It isn’t…it’s not something to be sorry about. It…just is.” she whispered, swallowing a lump in her throat. ”It can happen a lot at this stage. If I wasn’t a midwife and didn’t know what to look for I probably wouldn’t have even known. My body was just…doing a test run…” she said with a sniffle, trying to force her brain to think about this clearly, clinically, with the cool and dispassionate disinterest Frey might have.
