PHOEBE
Phoebe's whole person seemed to slump at his words. Her shoulder slouched, her expression fell, she figuratively wilted before his very eyes. His heart is in the right place, but.... She looked down, briefly turning away from Remi to go pour them both tea. She couldn't remember if he said he wanted it, but he was going to get it now. If he took the cup she offered him, he would find it a spicey blend, something warm that warmed from within in a comforting way.

"I don't think most people like being called idiots for any reason." she said quietly with a light shrug, sitting on one of the overstuffed couches. Phoebe crossed her legs under her, staring into the cup. "He is a bit sensitive about being considered stupid because he has no formal education though." Again she shrugged a little. She was defending Emmett but not particularly fervently. Not because she didn't care but because she didn't believe it would do anything to change Remi's mind. "We could have taken more precautions. I won't make excuses for that but...I was really happy. I told him he didn't need to help either, he could just walk away and deal with his siblings and the farm but he stepped up when I counted." she said, nearly mumbling by then.

"But you don't really care for him, do you?" she said more pointedly, glancing at Remi again.

"Not many, anyways." she said with a small smile as he complimented her knowledge set. As far as she knew she was the only formally trained midwife around.
Cause getting your dreams
It's strange, but it seems
A little - well - complicated
There's a kind of a sort of : cost
There's a couple of things get: lost
There are bridges you cross
You didn't know you crossed
Until you've crossed
And if that joy, that thrill
Doesn't thrill you like you think it will
Still, why am I not happier?
