Most of her time in the Hollowed Grounds had been spent within the Inner Quarters, visiting clients and shopping amongst the many vendors; however, with the shield surrounding the interior of the territory, Elizabeth was forced to seek out the edges of the forest to find a Void creature. She'd never been nor ever would be a hunter, and as she made her way through the trees, she hadn't the foggiest idea what she was doing. Her feet cracked loudly on sticks, her pink coat was obvious amongst the foliage, and her casual gaze made it easy for potential targets to evade her notice.
Elizabeth shifted the bag over her shoulders, the leather pouch of the Voidweaver spiders ready for use within. It wouldn't be easy to catch the little suckers, but she had a mission to do for Halo, and she was going to do it. So, with all the determination of an inexperienced hunter defending her home, the therapist trapsed through the forest aimlessly, praying that something might just fall into her lap.
As LongNight approached, Thal took every available opportunity to be outside of the city. She couldn't remember a time when the perpetual darkness had been dangerous, her memory lost to the void forever, but she didn't enjoy the inability to do and go where she wanted. It was restrictive in a way that made her restless, eager for activity. It's why she often spent the weeks in the company of others, drinking and sleeping her way through the city.
Until then, she had decided to take a stroll through the forest, casually slipping between shadows like a wraith eager for entertainment. Other predators recognized the danger, finding alternate places to be while she stalked alone. It was probably smart on their parts, especially as she noticed a random person amongst the trees, her egregious pink jacket an abomination to her eyes. Thal felt almost offended by the sight, deciding that it was her duty to intervene.
Pulling a dagger from a sheath at her side, she settled against a tree in view. It was cold against her side and her breath fogged in the air. Despite that, her image was intimidating, dark hair and clothes a warning sign for the woman as she asked, "Looking for something?"
Totally oblivious to her offense, Elizabeth was just enjoying her wandering as she looked for any signs of spiders. The sound of a familiar voice had her spinning around to face the woman, brown eyes wide with surprise. "Uh. Yes. Actually." Her tone was polite and friendly in spite of the hostile stance of the Ancient. She gave a warm smile as she asked, "It was Thalassa, right?" The woman had worked with her against the Vernal Viper in the Feverlands. It was kind of hard to forget when she'd seen her life flash before her eyes twice. She'd also given her a patch of scales in something that resembled respect.
Elizabeth glanced around the forest, wondering if any other people lingered in the shadows. When she didn't see any, she didn't feel a reason to hide the truth. Maybe Thalass would even be willing to help her. "I'm looking for some Voidweaver spiders."
She was surprised by the blunt honesty of the woman, but it was slightly refreshing for someone who spent so much time around lies and deception. Thal had to hide the laugh that wanted to bubble out of her, choosing instead to grunt. Hearing her name jogged her memory, an image of the colorful viper that the woman had fried with lightning. It was... Elizabeth if she remembered correctly.
The reason for the therapist's visit wasn't something she could understand. Her nose scrunched in dislike, trying not to appear too obvious about her dislike for the eight-legged creatures. "I don't know what you want with them, but if it means less of them roaming around here, I'll tell you that you almost walked straight into them." And when Elizabeth looked up, she'd find a purple spiderweb holding a handful of Void spiders hanging in the canopy. She was lucky she hadn't touched them yet.
The leaves above her head cast a dark shadow that she hadn't noticed, obscuring the purple cords of Void spiderwebs. When her gaze lifted to see the spiders lying in wait, she winced. She'd certainly come close to walking head-first into them. Some hallucinations and tiny nips probably would have been a great learning lesson to look up when she was walking through an unknown forest (or anywhere for that matter).
Giving Thalassa a sheepish smile, she let out a nervous laugh. "Thanks. That could have been bad." Elizabeth rummaged in her bag until she had the leather pouch in hand. It was thick enough to keep the creatures contained until she could reach Halo, but there was the question of how to get them in there. Lightning might not be the best idea, it'd probably just fry them to a crisp, but maybe her telekinesis would work.
She leaned her head back to avoid getting her face too close to the Voidweavers, biting her lip in concentration as she slowly lifted the pouch so that the opening lay just beneath the spiderwebs. It was a small opening, but if she maneuvered it just right...
With a quick slice and funneling of her magic, Elizabeth managed to sever the spiderweb and direct the falling arachnids into the pouch. For a second, she just held her breath, certain she must have missed one. When they started wriggling in the bag, it was a sign that she should probably close the top, making her jerk instinctually to sinch the leather. It wasn't until it was properly sealed that she let out a long sigh of relief.
Holding the bag away from her, she gave Thalassa a proud smile. "Well that wasn't too bad. Thanks for the help."
The woman's nonchalance about staring down a spiderweb full of Voidweaver spiders was somewhat admirable. Thal refused to get any closer, and she was a good fifteen feet from them. If they moved her direction, she was out faster that a blink of an eye. Those creepy legs and thousands of eyes were enough to make her shiver but add in the purple hue and she had no interest in getting within range.
Thal watched with muscles tense, ready to spring at a moment's notice, while Elizabeth reached out to catch the spiders. Not having seen the telekinesis, she could only guess at how the woman managed to secure them. She didn't breathe again until the bag was sealed, ensuring that they wouldn't come her way. The Captain still didn't step forward afterwards, choosing to grumble from distance, "Don't mention it." And really, she didn't feel like she'd done much except point out the monstrosities.
Eager to get away from the creatures, and whatever this odd interaction was, Thal gave a flippant wave as she turned her back to leave. "Good luck with whatever you need them for." She couldn't care less what the reason was, just glad to get away from them. As she left, she could hear Elizabeth call out a farewell before loudly trapsing back out of the woods with her prize in hand.
