The wind in the Citadel bites differently than it does on the Tundra—sharper, more personal, like it’s testing your mettle as you walk Halo’s streets. Flora pulls her cloak tighter as she weaves through the afternoon bustle, the magical dome overhead dulling the worst of the weather but not erasing it entirely. Snow still crunches underfoot, and the scent of cold metal and pine clings to every surface.

The streets are alive with motion: Halovians in heavy wool and fur barter near the greenhouse, exchanging smoked meats for imported fruit; children tug mittens from their wrists as they chase each other around the edge of the public hearth; guards patrol with practiced vigilance, weapons at ease but always close. Despite the season, there’s a vitality here—a carved-from-stone kind of strength that reminds Flora, just faintly, of Torchline.

She steps through the crowd with ease, a natural sort of grace in the way she sidesteps a stubborn goat being led by a laughing child and ducks under the outstretched arm of a man hanging a bundle of fresh herbs outside a shop. Her dark cloak flares slightly with the movement, and every so often, she catches a curious glance—someone recognizing her not just as the Queen of Torchline, but as the girl from that broadcast.

The Palace glints in the distance like something plucked from a dream—sharp, cold, ethereal. Its glass and stone spires rise against the blue-white sky, casting long shadows over the snow-dusted square that stretches before it. Flora pauses at the notice board standing to one side of the main thoroughfare, the old wood half-frosted over and bristling with recent postings. She brushes a gloved hand across the surface to clear the buildup of frost, scanning headlines, most of which written in Deimos' firm but legible script.

She reads on, lips pressed thin in thought. Halo was strong, but even strength had cracks. And right now, the queen wasn’t sure if she was here to lend her own... or to hide in theirs.

We are all stardust
Near the notice board, Zen found himself sitting on a bench and sipping a hot tea as the citizens of Halo went about their day. He'll be leaving in a few days, and the Demi-god is surprised to find that he'll miss the snowy region. Even in the short time that he's been here, the people have endeared themselves. They're a resilient people, persistent in their efforts and proud of their region. But they're undoubtedly kind.

Sipping his drink, Zen's eyes track a woman approaching. She moves differently than the rest. Gracefully, but against the current almost. Out of place in some ways, and it catches his attention. With narrowed eyes he studies her as she reads the notice board. Nothing specific about her stands out, and Zen doesn't recognize her at first glance. Though the angle that he's at makes deciphering her facial features a challenge.

Intrigued, he stands, coming close enough to read the board but remain out of her personal space. Taking another sip, Zen's eyes scan the board, trying to pinpoint just what has caught the woman's attention.

Flora isn’t used to towering figures materializing beside her in the cold—especially not ones with such practiced quiet—but she feels his presence before she sees him. It’s not just the height (though gods, he’s tall), but the subtle shift in atmosphere. Like the air around them adjusts to make space for him. Her aqua gaze flicks sideways, taking in the stranger’s silhouette: the tea, the composed stillness, the unmistakable hum of something deeper in the air. Magic, maybe. Or just confidence.

"Sorry," she says lightly, sliding one step to the side with a glance up and a small apologetic smile. "Didn’t mean to monopolize the local drama." Her curls shift with the motion, catching a glint of frost, and she tugs her coat a little tighter around her middle against the lingering bite of Flowerbirth’s chill.

She shifts her weight to one hip, glancing back at the board with a faint huff. "You’d think I’d be more up to date on this stuff," she mutters, more to herself than him. "But apparently the snow moves faster than the letters do." There’s a flicker of curiosity as she glances up again, not quite making it a question, but definitely waiting to see if he’s just another passerby—or someone with something more to say.

Zen blinks as he recognizes the woman. Flora, Torchline's Queen. It seems strange to see her out in Halo, but the Demi-god isn't privy to just what goes into ruling a region. She could be here for any number of reasons. If he has to guess, it's the information regarding Starfall and Family that's caught her attention. It certainly says a lot about the state of the world that Halo's Warden isn't able to keep her fully up to date with potentially critical events.

Looking down at her Flora, Zen tilts his head. Blue stars swirl in the air beside him, illuminating part of the notice board. (I didn't expect our first meeting to be in Halo.) Zen had known that he'd need to meet her eventually. Flora is one of Safrin's, after all. He's already met Hadama. Perhaps he should introduce himself to Deimos before he leaves.

Flora blinks—once, then again—as the words spiral gently into the air beside her in shimmering script. It takes her a second to realize it’s not some optical illusion from the cold or the noticeboard itself, but magic. Something celestial and beautiful in a way that twists in her gut before she can help it.

Because stars always mean Safrin. And Safrin means Jack. And Jack means…

Flora’s smile falters at the edges, subtle as a wilting bloom. Her breath fogs in the air as she exhales slowly, grounding herself in the frost and the moment instead of letting her mind spiral toward how many other perfect, glittering things he’s left behind. Her voice, when it comes, is softer now—careful, but not cold. "Let me guess." Her head tilts, curls catching the faint glow. "You’re Safrin and Jack's new demigod?"

There’s no venom in the way she says it. Just a quiet weariness, like someone who’s been pricked too many times by the same thorn but still can’t seem to pull it free.

Zen catches the shift in her expression, noting it even before her voice changes. There's a story there. Something complex and personal if he had to guess. Flora seems almost, sad. The Demi-god finds himself softening somewhat; neutral expression easing into something slightly more open. The stars that form are a soothing blue, (Yes.)

Holding out a hand, he studies the Queen's face for any other changes, (I'm Zen.) His head tilts, (What brings you to Halo?) Zen had only just been in Torchline. Had something happened in his absence? News would have surely reached the snowy region if anything drastic had occurred. But the Demi-god feels the need to ask. His siblings still remain there and even if two of them still seem unsure about their older/younger brother, Zen wishes to ensure their safety.

Flora reaches out without hesitation, her hand slipping easily into his with a warmth that stands in contrast to the chill of the air. "Flora," she says, her grip confident but not pushy, fingers cold but steady in his. "Though I’m guessing you already know that?"

A small, wry smile tugs at her mouth as she steps back, tilting her head toward the noticeboard where his message had first appeared. "I try not to bombard Deimos with a thousand letters—he’s got enough on his plate without me asking if the cannibal snow goats are still a problem." Her voice is light again, breezy in the way that suggests a joke, even if it’s only half of one. "So I figured I’d come up and see what the Noticeboard had to offer."

She glances at him again, this time with a little more curiosity. He’s not what she expected, though maybe that’s exactly what she should’ve expected. "What about you? You're pretty far from Torchline yourself." Flora, of course, assuming that Zen would be living in Torchline like the rest of his family.

Zen nods, letting her go without complaint. The notion of cannibalistic goats gives him pause. He's fairly sure that she's joking, but there something in her inflection that has him filing the information away for later. Caido has already proven to be unpredictable, and he refuses to be caught off guard.

When Flora refocuses on him, the Demi-god meets her eyes with something almost like amusement.  (I don't align with a specific region at the moment.) Torchline may be the home of his kin and sworn to his mother, but the task bestowed upon him didn't necessitate living in the tropics.

A commotion down the street draws his eye and Zen's eyes narrow. Glancing back at Flora, he dips his head. (I'll see you around.) Returning to the flow of the crowd, he makes his way over to investigate.
