The docks always felt alive, even when the wind died and the sails slumped like drunkards in hammocks. Today was no different—calls of sailors haggling over cargo, the slap of nets, the clatter of crates being offloaded from a sleek vessel with teeth painted on its hull. Torchline’s heartbeat thumped loudest here, wrapped in sea salt and secrets.

Flora stepped lightly along the warped boards, her sandals clicking a rhythm only she could dance to. She wore a gauzy linen skirt that fluttered in the breeze and a blouse the colour of moonlit foam, tied off at the waist to keep the heat at bay. A single golden anklet chimed with every step.

Flora hesitated for a breath before stepping closer to the nautical shrine. She’d never paid much mind to Ludo’s end of things, not least of all because of everything her dad had endured at the raggedy herald's hand. But, if she wanted to fuck around with memories, Ludo was the one to ask. So she knelt.

Her fingers brushed the gleaming cheek of the statue, worn smooth by countless other hands. "For luck," she murmured under her breath, and then set her offering gently at the foot of the shrine. It was a wooden top—small and intricately carved, painted in a swirling pattern of black and bone-white. When spun, it made a faint chiming sound, like wind through glass. Tucked beside it, a tiny cloth cat with mismatched button eyes.

Then, louder, lifting her chin and letting the ocean breeze carry her voice: "Hey Ludo, I was hoping for a one-off...a potion or something that would erase an hour's worth of memories? Prettiest of pleases?"

Florida for Ludo! She wants a one-use item that removes 1 hrs worth of memories.

Ludo
Luck and pretty pleases go a long way with this herald - as do cats and spinning tops. And, you know, being Remi's biological daughter probably helps too. The little kitkat is snatched away first, schlorped into the shadows where a faint meowing can be heard that's definitely not caused by Ludo itself. As for the spinning top itself, a little raggedy tendril whips out from behind the statue, setting it to whipping around and chiming melodically in the sea breeze. "I like this," Ludo announces, all but wrapped around the statue like a shawl, its porcelain mask seeming like an open mouthed smile down at Flora.

"An hour of memories is not very much," it announces. "I think I can do that. For you, though, sweetling, I might be able to make it even prettier a please. One-hour potion for you, a week of memories for me, and we can call it even. But I get to decide which memories you lose. Only fair!"

Flora has a choice!

Option 1 - Accept the quest from Ludo for a potion which will remove an hour's worth of a person's memories. (The hour will be taken from the time immediately preceding the potion being consumed).

Option 2 - Offer Ludo a week's worth of her memories (Ludo's choice) to be permanently removed, and receive the potion right now!

What a deal amirite <3

Flora watches the little cloth cat vanish into shadow, the phantom meow tugging a grin from the corner of her mouth. "Glad to hear it," she drawls up at the mask now draped like sea-slick silk across the statue, the chiming top spinning merrily between them.

The smile she flashes is warm but wary—equal parts charm and caution, like she’s trying not to startle a sleeping sea snake. "I do love a bargain, and gods know that's a good deal," she says approvingly, eyeing the animated spin of her offering. "But if I had to bet, I’d say the memories you’re after are the ones I’m not quite ready to give up." It wouldn't want them otherwise, right?

She lifts one shoulder in a slow shrug, casual as the tide. "Tempting, though. Like really tempting. But after all my nonsense lately, I'd probably better play it safe." Flora steps back just enough to straighten, wind teasing the hem of her linen skirt as she meets Ludo’s empty gaze with a flicker of mischief. "Quest pleeeeease."

Ludo
Nearly vibrating with excitement to hear Flora consider its offer - even though arguably, as a herald, it already knows which path she will walk down - upon hearing her final answer, Ludo groans and splays itself dramatically across the statue's shoulders. "How boring," it grumbles. "Fine, fine, fine. But if you change your mind at all, even halfway through the quest, you come and see me, yes?"

Clapping two raggedy tendrils together, it straightens until its mask is perched atop the statue's head. "Alright, one memory quest for you sweetling! Don't forget any of it, okay?"

Booooooo, Flora has received a quest:

1. Complete a thread collecting Memory Snow from Halo.
2. Complete a thread collecting the barbs from a Dream Cactus.
3. Complete a thread spending an hour trying not to remember something. (It's as stupid as it sounds, yes).
4. Complete a thread reminding Remi that he was going to come and play hopscotch with Ludo, BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY HE HAS FORGOTTEN.

Flora watches Ludo’s theatrical sprawl with an indulgent smirk, hands resting lightly on her hips. "You wound me," she says, voice thick with faux solemnity. "You offer a deal I can’t afford, I turn it down like a responsible adult, and now I’m boring? Unbelievable." Still, her tone is all warmth and wickedness, the kind of irreverence that knows better than to mock a god—but flirts with the edges anyway.

When the herald claps its raggedy limbs and lifts itself like a puppet master crowned in porcelain, Flora straightens too, chin lifted, curls catching the breeze like little sails. "One memory quest," she echoes, solemn this time. "Got it."

A grin slips across her lips before she steps back. "And if halfway through I decide being reckless is better than being brave—you’ll be my first stop."

With that, she offers Ludo the faintest mock-curtsy—too sassy to be reverent, too sincere to be mocking—and turns on her heel, Spice fluttering low over her shoulder in a shimmer of frost and gold.
