'cause I've been a devil, I've been a saint
Alys made her way to the Rainbow Road with a basket of fresh fruit braced against her hip and Sascha at her heels. The pair had spent the morning selecting the perfect items from the markets of Haulani before making their way out to the shrine to Rae and Frey. The woven basket contained apples, oranges, peaches, and more - there was even a coconut in there somewhere, although Alys wasn’t sure that that was an entirely appropriate offering for Frey. Hopefully, she thought, it would be the effort that counted. Stuck in amongst the fruits were packets of seeds for a variety of herbs - basil, and thyme, and others, all of which Alys had selected with care from vendors she knew well.

Arriving at the shrine, Alys sat her basket down, making a few last minute adjustments to make sure it was arranged just so. Sascha settled at her feet, sitting primly as she watched over the basket, as though expecting something to swoop in and steal their fruit at the last minute. In truth, she might have just been looking to steal a bite of something for herself. The little ursur was particularly fond of apples.

Alys bowed her head. ”Hello, Frey,” she said, clasping her hands in front of her. ”I was wondering if you could help me. I want to be more capable in case I’m in any more fights like the one in Halo. I was thinking something like this…”

Alys would like to ask Frey for a quest for the following:

The Chariot | A tarot card that, when tapped twice, teleports the bearer to a location within the same board.

Thank you!

RANDOM EVENT
Perhaps it’s with everything that has happened recently that the herald's arrival is due to them being called away for something else. Or, perhaps it’s simply just not the right time.

Whatever the reason is, it isn’t Frey that graces Alys with their presence. In place of them, a serpent slips up along the shrine, curling around it. Its scales look black at first glance, but with the sunlight that filters in reveals it to be a rainbow hue within. Its eyes are iridescent, pale in comparison to the rest of its body as it peers down at the Fateweaver and her ursur companion, a curious gleam in its gaze. Curious, but not menacing. Just watching.

Honestly, seeing Frey had been more than the seer could expect. After having gotten Sascha back from Mort's halls, hadn't she used up her luck? And she was an Abandoned, out of favor with the gods... but still. She'd hoped.

Her disappointment, though present, was quickly swallowed. She understood, and she didn't hold it against Frey. They had plenty of things to do, she was sure, and her troubles were surely near the bottom of the list.

Sascha rumbled something unintelligible, and Alys's gaze snapped to the shrine. A snake had appeared, curling around the shrine, its black scales flashing rainbow-colored in the sunlight. Its eyes were strikingly pale, iridescent and curious, and the Fateweaver stared back at it. She blinked, enchanted, and stepped closer. "Well, hello, there," she murmured as Sascha stood for a better look. "You're lovely, aren't you?"

RANDOM EVENT
The snake typically expects those that witness it to vanish – usually frightened by its scaled, lethal yet beautiful appearance. But when Alys stays, the snake’s tongue darts out toward her, equally just as pale and opalescent as its eyes. It doesn’t shy from her approach, instead focusing on her. Thank you for noticing. The creature hums to Alys through a mental bond that isn’t that of an attuned bond or anything else. Something solely a spirit could muster.

It moves after a few moments, slithering into the basket of herbs and fruits, coiling around the peaches. Frey tends to prefer peaches, I think. I, personally, like the apples. A subtle nod toward the ursur, sure that Sascha also preferred them, before the creature’s maw parts and bites into the apple with its multitude of fangs. Not a normal set a snake might boast, but ten times that, jagged and equally bright, revealing the inner portion of the snake to be pale like a pearl.

A voice spoke directly into Alys's mind, and the seer blinked once - twice - just to be sure she'd heard correctly. Sascha snuffled at the snake, and Alys stilled her with a hand upon her head. "Who wouldn't notice?" the seer asked the creature, a small smile upon her face, as though she had conversations with snakes every day. In truth, she was delighted by this turn of events. Sure, it might have been nice to receive a quest from Frey, but this? This was like something out of her dreams.

When the snake made its way into the basket, Alys watched as it bit into the apple with too many jagged fangs. Fascinated, Alys tilted her head to one side thoughtfully. "Thank you for the advice." She paused, and then: "Do you come to this shrine often? I would be happy to bring you apples, from time to time."

RANDOM EVENT
The snake is quite pleased to hear Alys’ question in return, amusement flickering in the snake’s gaze (as much as one could, with eyes cloudy with opalescent hues). But the snake focuses instead on the apples, on the information they offer easily, and when the question turns on them, the snake bites chunk after chunk out of the apple, swallowing it whole - seeds and all.

I go anywhere. I just happened to be passing through. It admits with a flick of its tail. Maybe if you leave apples out, I might come across them. It seems to debate this - whether or not they could appear wherever they wished. Like it was possible or wasn’t.

And before Alys’ eyes, the snake settles in the basket and begins to glitter like black mother of pearl, shining and sparkling as their body becomes hazy and no longer quite so solid. Perhaps I will see you again, Fateweaver. Comes the far away hum from the snake as it begins to vanish in plain sight.

The snake has left!

Strangely, perhaps, Alys rather thought the snake was amused by her. She'd never thought of the emotions a serpent might have, but now that seemed silly. Of course they would have feelings on par with those felt by humans. As the snake devoured the apple, Alys waited patiently to see what else it might have to share with her.

In the end, Alys decided that she might well leave apples around for the serpent - that is, if Sascha would leave them be. The little ursur was still watching the snake as it ate the apple, as though hoping for a bite of her own.

As the creature began to glitter and glimmer, gleaming with a hazy sort of quality that made Alys wonder if it had ever been there at all, she inclined her head gratefully to the creature, who had come to answer her call when the gods had not.
