The Greenwing pines slowly darkened to the black trunks of metallic trees, the air growing thick with darkness. Strange sounds echoed through the forest, giving Sol pause as he moved to glide through the branches. He hovered for a moment before landing next to Zavien, his eyes darting around them as if something might jump out at any second. The Dragoon couldn't say he blamed him, the shadows reminding him of the many nightmares he'd suffered in the last few months.
Rubbing a hand on the back of his neck, he looked to Liam. "This place is kind of creepy, huh?" His hand fell to rest against the pommel of his sword, his shoulders rolling back as he tried to loosen some of the tension. Partially to distract himself, he asked, "Have you seen many ghosts? Not like spirits, but actual ghosts?"

The Hollow Forest was... strange. In some ways, entering the wood felt like coming home. After all, Liam had spent the better part of the past few years in the forest. But that was where the similarities ended. The trees here was dark and gnarled, their bark metallic. When the wind blew, it echoed off the dips and grooves, creating a choir of sounds that was as eerie as it was beautiful.
Liam wasn't sure he liked it.
He mimicked Zavien's posture, resting a hand on the pommel of his own sword. "Yeah," he said, his gaze darting here and there among the trees, skating over areas he could see well while lingering on the black shadows that seemed to permeate the area. As for ghosts, though, he shook his head. "Can't say that I have. Doesn't Ludo bring back a ghost during Leafchange? At the Festival of Lights?"

A loud, piercing whistle sounded when a breeze ran through the hollowed trunk of a tree, startling him enough to make his heart skip a beat. Sol hopped to face the sound, his hackles raised as he assessed for any other signs, but the forest was eerily silent for a breath, like it had taken all its wind to make such a sound.
Zabien slowly resumed his walking, glancing at Liam as he thought of the Festival of Lights. "They do, yeah. I haven't paid much attention though. It feels kind of... intrusive." He remembered Deimos seeing someone last year, although he hadn't asked who. "These people get to reunite with someone they haven't seen in years. It feels like they should get some privacy from all the prying eyes." His shoulders came up in a shrug, unwilling to ruin that moment with his curiosity.

A loud whistle reverberated through the forest, followed by a piercing silence. It didn’t feel right, the quiet; it was like the forest was holding its breath, waiting for something to come out. It made the hairs on the back of Liam’s neck stand on end, and he glanced around, looking for anything out of place. When nothing happened, he masked a shiver and continued on.
”I agree with you,” he told Zavien, his voice hushed, as though afraid to talk too loudly and call those very ghosts to them. ”If it was me, and I was reunited with someone I loved… I’d want privacy.”

Recalling Liam's history, he noted the hushed tone and the deeper meaning there. Zavien didn't push or pry, letting the man share if he wished, but refusing to cause discomfort by having him relive memories or dream about meeting those he'd lost.
Sol looked around, giving a small, near-silent chirp through the paused breath of the woods, interrupting his thoughts. His eyes fixated on a patch of light peeking through the trees, promise of an exit from the dark trunks of the trees. It was a glimmer of hope in the darkness, beckoning him forward to escape the oppressive haunting.
The Dragoon nodded his head towards the light, clearing his throat. "Let's get out of here before something decides to ruin our privacy."
