Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

Why you got it in for me? Is it cause I bring it to your knees?
"Look," Noe said as they wandered beneath the Crimson Cataract. "It's not like I hate you." The waters that floated above shone red, dappled in the light that streamed through the leaves. It was startlingly beautiful, even if it reminded Noe of blood. "I just... don't know how to like you."
Mika poked her head out from under Noe's hair, tasting the air as though that would be enough to sense a rose. Unfortunately for everyone, it wasn't. "It's just... you hurt my brother. And I know that was a long time ago, but I just... how am I supposed to trust you after that?"

Sohalia wasn't expecting an answer, not after Noe's brush off in Ludo's Wood, but the girl surprised her by bringing it up again. And what she said left the Luminary blinking with surprise. Of course, she'd suspected that maybe Noe didn't entirely despise her - she just didn't act like someone who hated Soh, not anymore. But to hear this kind of vulnerability... it left her speechless.
But only for a moment. "I won't deny that I made mistakes in the past," she said softly, her gaze flickering from Noe to the surrounding trees. "But I've done my best to keep from making the same mistakes again." She wasn't asking for them to be besties or anything - she already had Flora, after all - but to be able to get along would be nice, especially now that they were living in the same apartment.

I made mistakes, Sohalia said, and gods if Noe didn't understand that. Especially now. The girl looked away, studying the ground around them as she searched for a rose, but really just wanting to avoid Soh's gaze. Wasn't it all that one could do, really - learn from mistakes and strive not to repeat them?
"Fine," Noe said after they'd searched in silence for a few minutes. "I can't promise we'll be friends, but... I guess after everything... maybe we can try." Or, at least, Noe could try. She rather thought that Soh wouldn't have to give it a lot of effort. The young woman seemed like she could be friends with anybody.

Noe's response brought a small smile to Sohalia's face. Her step lightened as she walked beneath the Crimson Cataract, reaching up for a moment to touch the swirling red waters above. The resulting sprinkle upon her head felt refreshing, and her smile turned into a full on grin. "I can't ask for more than that," she said, but she couldn't help the hope that bloomed in her chest.
For now, it was enough to know that Noe didn't hate her, and Soh was confident that time would smooth over any remaining wrinkles. At the moment, though, she turned her attention back to searching for roses. Maybe they would find one soon. Then they could go back to Haulani, where it was safe.

Orbs of light beckon and call from the darkened angles and shadows of trees. Were those whispers of your friends? Family? Fallen allies?
Was that a scream? Could they be in trouble?
Is it all in your head? Just your imagination?
Or something else altogether – because what if it’s true?
You’ve encountered a Will-O-Wisp. This counts as a common creature encounter for the purposes of levelling, but does not count as a Random Event for levelling or MP. There will be no further admin/re intervention. If you choose to follow this creature, you do so at your own risk, however, just having it in this thread is enough to satisfy your levelling requirements.
Will-O-Wisps (common): Glowing orbs of light that dance and weave between the branches, despite their usefulness, these creatures are not to be trusted. Mischievous and loyal to no one, they will lead travellers astray at a moment's notice.

Something about forgiving Sohalia left Noe lighter than she'd felt in weeks. Ever since being cured, it had felt like she'd been drowning - but now, at least for a moment, she felt a spark of hope that things could get better. That something small, like forgiveness, could bring about some kind of lasting change.
So even though it wasn't a solution to all of Noe's problems, it felt like progress, and for now, that was enough.
