Fantastic.

Zavien wanted to have a conversation with whoever thought it'd be hilarious to pair the Dragoon with the dragon. He paled a little when his name was called alongside THE Ronin's, a nervous laugh breaking through despite the smile still lingering from Lena's kiss. He'd met the man, sparred with him, liked him, but that didn't mean he thought he had any chance at staying on during their time in the ring.

He gave Lena a kiss on the cheek as he stepped forward, whispering playfully in her ear, "Well, at least it will be a good show." And because of the absurdity of it all, the laughter stayed light on his lips as he made his way forward.

When he made it to the demigod's side, he gave another disbelieving shake of his head, offering a sheepish grin. "I apologize in advance for how awkward this is going to be." Zavien reached out a hand to shake, completely understanding that he was about to wind up face-first in the dirt and not caring (too much). "Still, let's have some fun."

Only once Ronin was shifted and the Dragoon was firmly on his back did he let out the deep, chest-clenching breath he'd been holding, ready to hold on for dear life.

RONIN
"Would it make it better or worse if I told you that this wasn't nearly the most awkward thing I've ever done?" Ronin's grin is just as sheepish as Zavien's, and he reaches out to warmly clasp the other man's hand. "Fun, at least, I can do." However ridiculous it might look to anyone watching - and to the both of them too, he imagines. It's with a self-deprecating laugh that Ronin steps back and begins to shift, his enormous form filling the space until a pale dragon hunkers down where the White Knight once stood.

Snorting a hot breath once the dragoon is situated - and at least ensuring that he is as secure as he's ever likely to be upon his scales, at the indicator to begin, Ronin charges forward into the arena. His screech of draconic fury is entirely for show, as is the exaggerated stomping of his enormous clawed feet. Pounding through the dirt and sand for a few steps and flaring his wings, for a moment it looks as though he's going to take off into the sky... but he doesn't.

Instead he shakes. Like a massive, scaly dog.

Chuckling, Zavien shrugs his shoulders. "I guess it makes things a little better." Although it doesn't change the fact that it's the strangest thing he's done. But at least they're in agreeance to have a good time with it, letting go of any expectations or nerves.

It's hard to keep them away when facing down a dragon hundreds of times bigger than Sol and having to get on it. He's not sure if it's easier to pretend that the dragon isn't Ronin or not, but he tries to focus on at least getting situated, scrambling up with no illusions of grace. Once he's seated as firmly as he can be on a chair of smooth scales, he does his best to find handholds on any spikes or nubs nearby.

It should be well known that Zavien hates heights. Some might even say he's scared of them (he definitely is). So when Ronin makes like he's going to take to the skies, the Dragoon is already forming a death grip, his face paling as he presses himself as close to the dragon's back as he can get like he might be able to stop the upward progression. He's almost definitely relieved when he doesn't end up high above the ground, finding that a brain-rattling shake is much preferred.

Zavien grabs on any spikes, hunkers down, and tries not to fall off!

RONIN
Barely able to feel Zavien's departure, it's only as Ronin straightens up that he notices that the other man has gone flying, and if a dragon could wince, he's doing it. But of course there's showmanship to be done as well, and so with a ROAAAR of glee and much stomping and churning up the arena, eventually the beast tromps to the dragoon's side, giving him a gentle and thorough nosing with his snout as if to get him back on his feet.

Only then does Ronin shift back, breathless and flushed and very sheepish, reaching out to steady Zavien and further assist him in getting up if he needs, this time with actual hands. "Are you alright?" he asks through apologetic laughter. "I think there are medics on hand if you need, or I can heal as well," he says.

If people thought him getting on the dragon was ungraceful, him getting thrown off is a thousand times worse.

Apparently, he hadn't needed Ronin to take to the skies, he was more than capable on his own. All flailing limbs and swirling dust, he makes it a few feet away before the ground unceremoniously slaps him in the face, his body finally listening to the self-preservation instincts to tuck as he rolls in a cloud of dust and muffled grunts. When he skids to a stop, he does his best to ignore whatever lovely reactions the crowd has for his performance.

While Ronin basks in the glory of his landslide of a victory, Zavien takes a moment to flop onto his back, lifting up a single thumb so people might know he's not dead. A small cough rips from his lungs and he winces at the multiple aches that shout at him, at least relieved that none of them appear serious enough to require attention. He's able to sit up as the demigod approaches, flashing a good-natured grin.

There's a pale flush to his cheeks and a small scrape on his forehead as he runs a hand against the back of his neck. He chuckles, accepting the offered hand to rise from the ground. "I'm good. Just some bruises." Including to what little pride he has. It's not like he was expecting to do well, but he hadn't really been expecting to get thrown off within the first few milliseconds.

His hands work down his jeans in a pathetic attempt to remove some of the dust, but he gives up pretty quick, instead reaching for the hat that had landed only a few feet away. Holding it in his hands, his smile widens, laughter coming easy. "Well, I think that's enough fun for me today. Thanks for not dropping me from the sky. Hopefully people got a good laugh." Zavien gives Ronin a wink, joining him as they leave the ring for the next event.
