Sunlight filters through a stained-glass ceiling of maple and oak, every leaf aflame with late-season gold. Flora walks beside Zavien along a narrow deer trail, hands nestled in the pockets of her jeans while fallen foliage whispers beneath their boots. Spice flutters ahead, a dart of winter-white weaving between scarlet branches and sending glittering frost motes tumbling in her wake.
"I never thanked you," Flora says. She tilts her head to catch a shard of dappled light, curls catching amber sparks. "At Pierce’s pool party—everything turned brutal so quickly, but it helped more than you know, seeing you pushing people toward safety." A breath leaves her, lifting a stray leaf before it settles again on the moss. "So thanks," she adds, meeting Zavien’s gaze with a warm, earnest half-smile that softens the lingering fatigue behind her eyes. "It was one less thing to worry about and I can't tell you how much it meant that you had my back."
Leafchange might be one of Zavien's favorite seasons. Even though the sun may be stronger in Longheat, it feels brighter during the change of season. He loves the way it gilds the world in gold and gives just enough warmth to keep the brutal chill at bay. The world feels like it's suspended in time yet every leaf hints at change and the eventually rebirth of Flowerbirth. It makes him smile.
He watches as Sol does his best to follow Spice's aerial movements, small sneezes and puffs of smoke coiling through the leaves as the snow lands on his head. Content to do nothing more than stroll and enjoy the weather, Zavien relaxes, his hands similarly tucked in his jeans as he walks next to Flora. He gives her a warm smile at the appreciation, shaking his head. "Don't even mention it. I'm just glad everything worked out." Not that he'd done much in the process.
Still, the mention of the party holds a single painful thought that has him glancing away, his lips curving down in a sorrowful smile. "Although... Tal got infected. I saw Vox hug him - if that's what you can even call it." Was being surrounded by static comparable to the warm embrace of a friend? He doubted it.
Zavien lifted his head to look at a patch of golden leaves, the light catching the green of his eyes like an echo of what they'd once been. "I haven't seen him since. I don't even know if he's okay or not."
Keep your face to the sunshine, And you cannot see a shadow.

Flora’s easy stride slows, her brows knitting until a furrow mars the sun-warmed glow of her face. A thumb drifts to her lower lip, teeth grazing the skin in pensive habit while she tracks a circling curl of Spice’s frost that drifts between them like a sigh. "Oh shit. I missed that in the chaos," she murmurs, voice low enough that it seems to settle among the fallen leaves instead of carrying. "I bet he's okay though...when I was infected, everything felt...spectacular." She exhales a rueful laugh, soft but edged with memory. "The void critters looked like oversized cuddle-toys, and life felt strangely perfect—right up until I woke up clean and realised how close I’d come to losing myself."
Her gaze flicks to the forest’s burnished canopy, then returns, earnest and steady. "With the Family gone, I bet he'll turn up sooner rather than later without their influence lingering." She rubs a smudge of frost from her wrist, bangles chiming a muted note. "If I see him, I'll let you know." Or she'd tie him up and then let Zavien know.
Pausing, Flora reaches into her pocket and pulls out an acorn man, which was a truly horrifying little creation. Setting it down amongst the moss, the queen glances at Zavien over her shoulder and grins. "For Ludo," she explains.
He hadn't meant to stress her, but he assumes it's probably better to find out now before she sees whatever horrors on his face. Zavien knows the general symptoms of being infected from what Deimos had found and shared with him, so he's not exactly surprised by Flora's description, although he doesn't like the idea of Tal 'losing himself' - whatever that might mean for the courier.
Sympathetic as much as he is relieved that she'd been cleansed, he gives a gentle smile that feels like sunlight shifting onto shadows. It's easier to lean into the humor now that the Famiy's gone, taking the possibility of infection with it and making his words a little bright. "You're really selling it." But as she promises to apprise him of Tal's whereabouts, he nods his head, feeling comforted by the thought that someone else will be looking out for his friend. "Thanks. I'm not too worried about him, but I don't want to leave him like that for too long. We don't know what the effects will be without the Family..." With any luck there wouldn't be any effects, but only time would tell, and he'd rather not find out the hard way.
Zavien trails behind as Flora moves to set something in the moss with the only clarification being 'For Ludo.' Leaning forward, he raises an eyebrow and lets out a warm laugh. "And... what exactly is it?" Not that he's the craftiest person - quite the opposite, in fact - but he can't make out what it's supposed to be.

Flora’s laugh is low and warm, shaking through her shoulders like wind rustling a cluster of late-season leaves. "Well, at least while he’s infected the world isn’t some melting violet mess—small mercies and all that." A playful roll of her eyes sends sunlight sparking off the bangles crowding her wrist as she shrugs. There were benefits to being infected after all.
Spice sweeps overhead, scattering chilly motes that glitter around the little figure she’s just placed—an acorn body topped by a cap askew like a jaunty beret. "Acorn man," she explains, voice softening with something close to fondness. "Ludo’s partial to dolls, especially ones made from what’s on hand. Leaf limbs, acorn heads—cheap thrills for a herald of Death." Another dip into her pocket produces a tiny cat fashioned from a walnut shell and twig tail, followed by a crooked miniature Flora, complete with a scrap of golden thread for hair. She sets them beside the first, arranging them like a curious family picnic. "Ludo helped me untangle a...complicated conversation recently," she says, smoothing a curl behind her ear. "Instead of calling them down again and making a grand spectacle, I figured I’d scatter a thank-you where they’ll find it. Quiet gratitude feels nicer sometimes, y'know?"
She rises, brushing moss from her jeans, and steps back to admire the trio of odd little offerings. A slow smile unfurls, lit from within. "Anyway, shall we?" A wink flickers his way before she slips her hands into her pockets once more, ready to resume their stroll beneath the Wildwood’s gilded ceiling.
