A guild was like a shop. Right?

Right.

Ronin was still bruised, still bandaged, and the place - well, places - where the Spire Demon's teeth had sunk into his flesh were still healing, causing a stiffness and discomfort in his right shoulder that he was doing his best to ignore. The first few days in this new world had been unkind to him to say the least, between nearly losing his life and having to find a roof to put over his and Vanya's head in the pouring rain. (It didn't seem like they should be of similar merit, but they were).

But the new life budding within the woman to whom he'd given his heart was all the motivation he needed to dust himself off and get himself grounded. The Storm Guard was no more - any title he'd earned wasn't worth the paper it wasn't even written on. And besides, what was a Training Captain with no army to train?

Even if there were no soldiers, though, that didn't mean there weren't any enemies. They just seemed to take the form of horrific monsters instead of humanoids right now. So here he was. He'd placed his notice on the board like the others before him, and now all there was to do was wait.

The building he had chosen for this would-be guild was appropriately decrepit, and a little ways out from the other existing shops - and for good reason. Something was growling very menacingly indeed from within the boarded up structure. Undoubtedly they would need to fight it to get access within. Appropriate, no?

There are two open spots in this Personal Quest! Who wants to fight a spoopy monster?

1. Remi
2. Alistair

Given all that had happened, Ronin was one of the few people Remi trusted himself to be around at the moment. If push came to shove, he knew implicitly that the captain would (and had) the means to restrain him if it came to that. Remi hoped it wouldn't, but of course without truly knowing what would trigger the beast inside of himself, he honestly couldn't say for sure.

Still, enough time had passed without Remi having to be thrown once again into a pit that the alchemist ventured out on his own.

Wearing his usual sunny smile that today didn't quite reach his eyes, Remi walked into the street outside of his shop and glanced around. Ahead he could see the quite familiar form of the captain wandering towards a fairly unremarkable area of the Settlement. With a curious tilt of his head and marginally wider smile, the alchemist let his eyes shift to his avian ones to better judge what it was the man was doing. Looking both purposeful and dashing as hell (though when didn't he), Remi decided to join his friend in whatever activity he was currently pursuing.

"Careful, or they'll say you're compensating for something. " Remi chuckled as he arrived at Ronin's side. Though, having seen the captain naked before the alchemist could certainly attest that such was not true. Just as his smile widened further and Remi's lips parted to perhaps continue on with the quip, he heard the menacing sound of something within the building. Immediately his face became ashen and he looked nervously towards the captain.

"I take it you are not planning on just letting whatever is inside, be?"

New world, new beginnings...one would think that, but some times new beginnings weren't welcome. Oh how he craved a new beginning from this new beginning...Ashetta wanders, leaving him with only faint sensations to know she's alive...

Alistair was once again a man without a place, without a purpose. An absent wife, and a foreign world traversed alone for the most part. To say the notice on the board was a welcome sight was an understatement. Alistair sheathed his sword at his side, slung his bow over his shoulder and wracked his arrows.

If you were to join a guild one must look the part after all right. As he arrived, pulled momentarily away from his own thoughts he arched a brow, staring at the building as he arrived next to Remi though he spoke to both he and Ronin .

"It's a fine building...one would think it would be even better from the inside though. Just...an assumption of course." He heard the defiant growl from within but merely smirked as he turned to look to the two. "Seems our host is eager to greet us...shall we indulge their hospitality then?"

The sight of two men he considered friends was a welcome one, and Ronin smiled warmly to both Remi and Alistair as they approached. Both were a little unexpected, truth be told - not because he wouldn't have chosen them for help with the endeavour, but whilst he knew both could fight, they didn't seem the sort to seek it out. Regardless of motive, however, they had a guildhall to clear and a... thing... to confront. Woo!

"Compensating for something?" He arched an eyebrow across at Remi and smirked, absently rubbing at the scars on his knuckles. "And of course I'm not intending to leave it be. It's sort of the opposite of what I'm going for these days." Laughing, Ronin nodded to Alistair in agreement, marching forward so he could open the door. It was stuck, the wood warped from years of neglect, and Ronin had to all but shoulder it open - it created quite a lovely puff of dust that had him coughing.

Deep within, the building was dark. A growl echoed further, bubbling around the walls as if to fill the entire space. Frustrated, Ronin activated the light ring on his finger... and almost wished he hadn't.

The creature looked like part of the building, at first, but with glowing amber coals in place of eyes. When it lurched it made a sound like scraping stone, and the former-captain just about had the chance to swear when it barrelled towards him.

Remi merely grinned in response. Once upon a time it would have been absolutely ludicrous for the alchemist to even think of having said such to Ronin - or to any man really. In this new world however, and on the end of some welcome and surprising experiences back in Northaven, Remi had grown if not more comfortable in his sexuality, perhaps not quite as afraid of it as he had once been.

Nodding towards Alistair, a man he knew more in passing than in friendship despite the numerous relationships they had in common, Remi watched as Ronin shouldered the door in. Shaking his head slightly, Remi was about to say something about how he was sure he could easily have unjammed it, as an ominous sound suddenly came from within.

Mouth going dry as his newly found predatory instincts fought to clambour to the surface of his consciousness, Remi followed Ronin within, veiling his eyes slightly as light poured from Ronin’s ring.

In the moments that followed Ronin leaping to the side, Remi was caught in a war within himself. He could give into the predatory and hostile feelings inside and let loose the behest he’d recently discovered, or he could continue to fight against it. If he did, he could be sure that his friends would remain safe from him, but not the monster. If he did let himself shift, he might be able to actually contribute to what was surely going to be a fight.

But at what cost?

With a panicked expression, Remi’s pale gaze landed upon the fiery amber of whatever creature they had roused, and the decision was made for him. The alchemist’s pink lips suddenly widened in a ferocious snarl as all semblance of humanity disappeared from his face and his body. Elongating and falling to all fours, a large lion suddenly roared where the alchemist had previously stood.

Houses, or house-like demonic creatures had no place in the animal kingdom, and as such Remi’s more primal lion brain was unbothered by the woodwork seemingly coming alive. With a roar, he’d try to leap at the creature as it rebounded from his attack on Ronin.

When Ronin struck the door with his shoulder, Alistair looked to Remi and readied his bow, aiming it true through the corridor as he followed quickly after the former captain and Remi. The arrow rested firmly aimed in the bow, his breath remained steady as they entered and as Alistair quickly swayed his bow side to side to clear their flank before following the sound ahead to see the lurching beast charge toward Ronin.

At they moment he was set to fire his arrow into one of the burning ember-like eyes when Remi had shifted into his form...the shift sudden and unexpected for one as delicate looking as himself. A lion, fierce, strong...was not what he expected to come from the alchemist.

"Piss-it-all..." he muttered when the lion lunged toward the creature, had it bought him enough time, he would step aside and take aim again to fire an arrow into the spine of the creature to hopefully hinder its movement and give an opening to the others.

Had the shot connected, Alistair would quickly aim another as he quickly moved to another vantaged angle.

Well fuck.

Ronin barely had the chance to throw himself to the side before arrows were flying, lions were roaring and all chaos was loose in his bloody future guildhall. "Watch the floor!" Perhaps he'd knocked himself on the head, given that his voice rang out to scold Remi of all people, admonishing the giant effing lion whose claws were currently scratching the woodwork.

Alistair 's arrow would hit its mark. Regrettably, given that the golem was made from wood and stone, it did little other than ping irritatingly off the creature's bulk. The lion, however, was more than enough of a handful, and the golem roared and tried to slam at the feline with its huge fists. Their struggle brought them into the light of Ronin's conjuration ring - and at once things changed.

The golem's stone and wooden skin began to singe and smoulder, issuing a bellowing cry from the thing. Ronin blinked, then grinned and nodded to Alistair.

"Herd it outside towards the light!" he called.

The golden predator now taking hold of Remi's mind cared very little for Ronin's precious floors. All it cared about was whether or not the beast before it would bleed and taste every bit the lion's mind hoped that it would. However as the lion's teeth came closer, his tongue tasted only ash and debris. There was nothing here at all that tasted of meat or even life. Not the sort of life the lion was used to anyways.

As the golem pounded against Remi's ribs, the lion roared furiously and swiped outwards with both front paws, his massive legs and tail flailing for balance.

Outside

Remi's mind heard it, but the lion still cared little about Ronin's plan. Still given that there seemed to be no chance of devouring this thing, the lion sulkily reneged control of the alchemist's body. Going from feline to avian was a bizarre transformation, but soon the lion indeed did become a bird. Flitting around the golem's head, Remi (now with a significantly better handle on the situation), tried to tease and tempt the golem into following it outside into the light of day.

The floor? Alistair would be content if they had not been splattered all over the wall like some expressionist painting. He cursed at himself at the foolishness of attempting to wound a creature with a makeup like that with pings of an arrow...though Ronin did provide some reprieve to that train of thought. Don't need to wound it, just draw it's attention.

As Remi shifted to a bird and gathered the eye of the golem, Alistair drew his bow once more, not with the intention to wound but to draw the creatures ire toward him like a bothersome mosquito. He positioned himself near the corridor, waiting for Remi to draw the creature forward and fly past the corridor. Alistair had aimed his shots near the face of the golem to agitate it further.

Had it drawn close enough, he too would make a hasty retreat to the outside, just as Ronin had ordered.

Ronin felt both a pang of pride and relief as his friends moved so swiftly to take advantage of the situation. The golem, still in pain but also bewildered and distracted by now, roared its displeasure at the hawk and the arrows aimed towards it. Wasting no time (and proving to Ronin what he had already suspected - that the creature was not all that intelligent), it blundered into pursuit, thrashing at the bird since it was most immediately in sight.

As they neared the front door and the light that waited outside, the golem seemed to recognise the danger for it tried to skid to a stop - but Ronin was already darting up behind them, the light from his conjuration ring preventing their new friend from retreat. Here the golem seemed to have no choice, for its flailing became much less directed. Ronin skidded to a halt as the golem began to rain blows on the doorframe and the walls. Well damn.

Last round - no post order! The golem is almost out, but now it's started to take its frustrations out on the guildhall! Don't let it wreck the place!

Had Remi known that Ronin was so focused on interior decoration he might have brought him a vase or rug as a guild-warming present rather than, you know, trying to eradicate the monster within. Perhaps they should have placated the beast and used it for a table instead of trying to remove its hostile presence?

Ah well.

With a piercing cry, Remi flit nimbly through the flailing arms of the creature. If he could refocus the beast's attention, perhaps it would focus less on the walls and pillars and more on trying to rid itself of the pesky bird.

Then quickly to give Allistair more real-estate to shoot at, the hawk dove down towards the golem's feet, still shrieking loudly at it. His goal at present was to try and trip the creature up, forcing it down and through the door way rather than continuing to smash its way through.

The golem seemed to follow the plan with the only exception being it was too wide to fit through the doorway...so instead it simply began smashing rigorously and all Alistair could do was manage futile attempts of pinging arrows off of it. Until he realized the sword he had been carrying still lay dormant at his side.

Discarding bow and arrow, he drew his sword in time to spy Remi with an ingenious idea...if we can't draw the golem out, we'll topple it and force it's way out. He grinned at the clever bird as he sprinted toward the creature.

Had its attention been drawn to Remi, Alistair hoped it was enough time to slide back onto his knees and strike the shin of the creature with enough force to send it toppling out and through the corridor.

Should the strike connect, it would be enough to shatter the sword into splinters of steel, and Alistair would slide past enough through its legs to roll forward away from the debris.

If the creature had spied his movements before he could strike, well...Alistair knew it would be a painful reward for initiative.

Luckily enough for both bird and man, the golem was neither smart nor fast enough to predict their movements or indeed do anything about them. It was a simple creature, slow and lumbering and powerful, and the only reason it had been able to pick up so much speed in the first place was because it had been given space to build up to it. Now with distractions disorientating it, a doorway in front and hellish light behind, it roared its dismay.

Swinging hard and blind at the hawk, it angled itself forward in an attempt to get to the annoying little pest fluttering about its feet - right at the same time as Alistair shattered his blade against its shin.

The noise it made was deafening and it had Ronin fighting not to cover his ears; he couldn't afford to do that, the ex-captain busy darting forward with the light from his ring sizzling the golem the second it touched it. A well placed shove with his shoulder had it toppling, at last, through the doorway and into the light.

The three men would be able to watch, bewildered or pleased or however else they wanted to look, from the doorway of the shiny new guildhall as the golem promptly burned up and into dust. Ronin took a moment or so to catch his breath, before he grinned between his friends. "Right," he said cheerfully, "now that's done with, shall we clean this place up?"

Congratulations - this Personal Quest has concluded and you all receive credit! Ronin thanks you for your efforts. Feel free to leave a closing post if you would like!

Landing in the middle of the road, a triumphant but slightly confused expression on his face, Remi watched as the golem collapsed and then promptly dissolved. Swallowing, the former-hawk ran a hand through his curls, exhaling loudly.

Striding back towards Ronin and Alistair, Remi raised a brow towards them both just as the captain suggested that they'd better start cleaning. "Oh, can we?" Remi quipped sarcastically, a rueful grin on his face. "And here I thought the fun would be over already. What is next? Armchairs brought to life? A candlestick with a vendetta?" Shaking his head, Remi tentatively entered the guildhall. Surely with all the commotion if anything within wanted to attack it would have already, and anything else sentient would have the good sense to stay away.

With a chuckle, Remi found himself a broom, began to whistle, and commenced cleaning.
