Memory snow was once a good deal more powerful than it is now, or perhaps there was simply more magic and love in the world given to even the most mundane of tasks, once upon a time.

Like a lonely child building a friend out of snow.

The creature was enormous, its neck reaching nearly 3 meters in height, with all the anatomical precision of a stick figure. In other worlds it might have been described as something like a brontosaurus, in Caido however, it was merely a rough approximation of a dragon dreamed up by the mind of a child: a dragon without wings, with a neck too long that it was constantly teased for. The snow-creature boasted a few adornments: an amulet around its neck, toes stained red, eyes made of shiny buttons, and various stones likely meant to be scales randomly placed along its body. Clearly loved and painstakingly packed-together by small hands with no notion of biology, the memory snow held together this strange shape through the decades, long after its builder had gone away.

Lumbering through the fields in the midst of a snow storm, the white mass of snowy not-flesh opened its mouth to issue a silent roar of loneliness.

Love mends even the broken parts
Loren had been out trying to find the few luxere who’d already shown up. Although the summoner had been coming out to feed them regularly, obviously that had been interrupted by his stint in the pit in the Fae village. So he was back in the outskirts now, pack full of hay and apples, Astra at his side. Unfortunately, there were no other luxere to be seen.

As a roar echoed through the Outskirts, the summoner’s head whipped around. Maybe that was why the magical deer were scarce. Cautiously, the Launceleyn picked his way through the deep snow, and it didn’t take him long to come upon the dragon like figure made of snow. His jaw dropped, having never seen anything quite like it. It didn’t seem hostile, so he just settled in to watch it with wary eyes.

PHOEBE
Phoebe thought the sound was nothing more than thunder snow, but Pim’s head shot up upon hearing the thundering sound. He clambered to the door, roaring excitedly at Phoebe, who – feeling his growing excitement and urgency – put on a coat and opened said obstruction. The little dragonling bolted out, taking flight almost immediately, his human companion running behind him in an attempt to keep up. By the time he landed and ran forward, Phoebe was breathless, and rather irritated. ”Pim! What are you…Oh…” her eyes widened as she came to a halt, staring up wide-eyed at the giant snow dragon.

Pim pounced forward through the snow, roaring up a friendly greeting at the giant snow dragon. He wondered what happened to his wings, jumping up to fly near his snow-kin’s head, still roaring happy salutations to him as he came near eye height. ”Pim! Be careful!” Phoebe called up, not sure if this massive creature was friendly or not.

REMI
i've been sleepwalking and wandering all night
The manticore was viewing the world with eyes that had not seen clearly in months. He'd almost forgotten how sharp everything could be, given how long he'd been viewing the words in poorly painted shades of grey. Now, after Loren had given him back his sight, the world seemed entirely new. Whatever magic had let him see before persisted still, keeping those the alchemist had a strong emotional connection with blazing with an almost ethereal palette of colours. It was jarring still, to have the world swim in prismatic focus again; hence why Remi was distancing himself slightly to take it in slowly.

Before he wouldn't have been able to see the lumbering snow-dinosaur below; it would have blended in with the surroundings and the alchemist would have been none the wiser. Now though, he could see it as clearly as anyone else, and could pick out both Loren and Phoebe as well given how they glimmered more brightly to him than they ought to have.

Gliding down towards the ground, the manticore fanned his wings as he landed in the snowstorm, vibrant green eyes watching the creature with a predatory wariness.

Snowstorms were often a time of calm joy to the white fox, the weather keeping most non-furred things from walking through the world while he trotted through the freshly fallen snow like a wraith. The blight had taken that happiness from him, but when it clawed at his heart and stole his tongue he couldn't stay indoors with Rory, either. So he had slipped out the door and into the white, shrinking down to a more discreet size as Isuma followed him out into the storm, padding worriedly at his heels.

He paused to cough up a wad of black phlegm, spitting it out with disgust when the roar echoed through the Outskirts, and his head came up sharply, nose and ears twitching as he sought its source. Trouble? Trouble that might come towards the farmstead if it wasn't stopped, and he bounded swiftly towards the source of the commotion, pushing his body in spite of the shakiness of his paws. Isuma half-ran, half-flew in his wake, peeping her excitement even before they broke free of the trees and came to a halt in a puff of powdery snow at the great beast that lumbered along like a creature of legend.

The fox stared, blue-black eyes wide with surprise and curiosity. A few others had already arrived, he noted, but for the moment he stayed to himself as he watched the memory-snow-forged creature lumber peacefully along.

full moon rising on the waters of my soul
Snow was falling rapidly, which meant it was safe for Amun to go out, though he felt sluggish and weak. Still, seeing as he once again found himself left to his own devices and with nothing to do, he wasn’t going to let that stop him. So he’d gone for a walk. He’d been walking a lot, recently, and yet not really going anywhere. Normally, that would’ve bothered him, but he was still exploring this new world and there were enough surprises in it to keep him at least marginally interested.

While the cold didn’t bother him, his visibility was severely limited by the storm. Which is why he had almost stumbled upon the creature made of snow before it roared, sending him stumbling away before he tripped and fell on his ass. Scrambling backwards through the powder, his eyes took in the long neck, the strong legs, the white features, seemingly all made of snow, a look of wonder and fear in his eyes.

DEIMOS
Once given new aspirations and ambitions in the coils of snow, in the breadth of winter, the storm’s patterns and cycles hardly deterred him. A piece of the backdrop, a wayfaring beast on the horizon, the extension of his plumage dove beneath swells of wind threatening to push him back; too much persistence, too much curiosity, too much upheaval in the breadth of a single, solitary roar. Perhaps wiser individuals would have taken the opportunity to not wind their way through storms; but he was daring and bold and searing, taking to the skies in the decadence of something that felt like yesteryear’s home. The chilling breeze threatened to drown out all other noise, and he breathed it in, the eerie, enigmatic vestiges of a world he could no longer have, drifting downwards, towards the source of the noise.

The beast’s shape rose out of the surroundings, all the more intriguing. He wasn’t sure how to ascertain the quality of its demeanor – something maybe draconic, with its long, slender neck ascending over gnarled branches, but the rest of it altered, misshapen, as if not fully thought out or developed. But the notions of its vocals had been somber – maybe one more indication of desolation, of isolation, and he could understand, he could comprehend, the reaches of idle starkness.

So he let it be (for now; a rush in the back of his mind, thought of the flinthopper an emblazoning source in his ruminations), for it didn’t appear to be a threat, an omen, a rushing, roaring sign like the rest of the abyss intending to damn and take them down – his eyes ghosting over the descending snowflakes, searching for the rest of his avian family. Certain they were there, hovering, gliding, the Sword proffered a position nearby – flying towards an extended bough, room enough for all to settle with grasped talons and watchful eyes. Here, a murmur through connections, and then his gaze flickered over the rest, already gathered, already watchful and heedful. He remained as another sentinel, another guard, another soldier, if necessary.

MELITA
The blight’s insistence much less, the youth tucked herself into coats and furs, then wandered out into the cold, staff and sighs in hand. Fangorn nestled his way against her ankles and strived for a purr, and without much preamble the girl lifted him to her arms and curled into his form – a hug, an embrace, something to ward off the chill still rampaging its way through her. Her limbs still shook and her heart still burned, but she was alive, alive, alive, and it would take a lot more to defeat her. Maybe.

They followed the storm, not capable of flight, of magic, of motions other than walking, running, leaping, and bounding, but the energy wasn’t there today – so the pair glimpsed into the blizzard, into the tempest, with eyes on snowflakes and powdered abyss. Perhaps she would get lost in it, and no one would need to find her, not ever again, and it would be fine, no one would miss her, not after everything she’d done –

A roar loosened its way from the Outskirts, and on mere curiosity alone, they ambled forth, following routes and trails, towards beckoning wails and siren howls – just the once. Her gilded eyes wandered from gathered individuals, yearning to wave at Remi’s manticore form or Phoebe’s proximity, but her stare was rendered and riveted to the form before them. It was unlike anything she’d encountered – at once, slightly draconic, but losing the finer edges of treachery and danger with the sketches of its frame; the long nape an embodiment of serpents and something else altogether. Enamored, intrigued, and unraveled, perhaps for the first time in weeks she smiled, staring fondly at things that made no sense, but just happened to be.

don't worry mother,
your daughter is a soldier
She feels better and better with every day, darting between the snow clouds in the sky how she should have been doing all Deepfrost, wkth Deimos, with her friends, with hr family. But at least she can do it now — pale feathered wings match the sky while the blizzard battles her body. But she doesn’t mind, she prefers the snow at the end of the day. It reminds her of home, and after the whole blight thing, it’s the one thing she wants to do, wants to have.

So she’s quick to follow when she hears Deimos’ voice rising from the bond, diverting her course with wide wings and bright, sharp eyes. What is it? She questions quietly, eyes lingering on the creature with surprise.

Without a real mind of its own, the lumbering beast had little to offer those around it. It swayed vaguely towards Pim as the small creature flit by its head, though the motion seemed to be more of a reflex than anything. Once upon a time, a long long time ago indeed, the creature had possessed a mind. A heart. A soul. It shared that bond with a girl, sick and dying, and when her life-force fell away, so too did the strange and gentle creature's animus disappear as well.

Turning the massive creature began to lumber into the storm.

The memory snow monster was a majestic monument to loneliness, melancholy in its grandeur but mindless in its meanderings. Jigano shivered at the reminder of how he had been such a creature so very recently: acting only on instinct, with no memory and no future. The white fox with the black-veined eyes crept across the snow to press against Melita 's legs as Isuma purred a greeting to Fangorn, the pair glad to see a couple of friendly faces among those gathered.

He watched the mighty creature retreat back into the white but his concern remained as to where it might be heading, and he trotted after it, following the tracks it made when the whiteness of the storm threatened to hide it from view. If it stayed in the Outskirts and didn't blunder into any farms that would be fine, but there was too much danger that it might try to plow through someone's home to leave it entirely unattended.

Just how a small fox and a even smaller gryphlet would turn aside such a massive construct he had no idea yet, but he was far from alone in this. He glanced over his shoulder to catch a glimpse of Melita, Loren, and Remi, reassured that they would all help each other if anything more than watching and waiting needed to be done.

REMI
i've been sleepwalking and wandering all night
To those shifted—Kiada, @Deimos—the manticore glanced. With a mental pulse of uncertainty and boyish intrigue, the large leonine creature settled somewhat, peering into the snow with a look of confusion. Should we...go after it? Is it dangerous, do you think?

From what Remi knew of memory snow (mostly making snow-dicks with Ronin), the snow would always reshape itself if they were to attack it. That being said, he'd also never seen any of the snow walking about before it.

DEIMOS
His eyes meandered to Kiada, a silent, solemn nod along the brink of snow, uncertainty flooding over him, a mulish pull into their bond, because he loathed the notion of ignorance. I do not know - he’d never seen anything quite like it. Even in Helovia, amidst the decadence and splendor of the Aurora Basin’s rapacious edges, no monsters (other than themselves) had leapt from the rime or glaciers.

The beast was loathe to provoke or instigate it – it was a massive thing, and who knew what sort of damage it could wreak. It wasn’t like the flinthopper with its deadly, nefarious fire ripping through dried blades of grass, crackling over the forest’s kindling; it hadn’t done anything wrong, naught an agitating force. His head pricked upwards at Remi’s voice coming through their bonds, his avian head tilting, studying, scrutinizing. Follow it, maybe? But no need to agitate it. A safe distance, a harbor in the storm, where they could watch, examine, and scrutinize without being in harm’s way.

He nodded to Kiada once more, beckoning her closer as he flapped his wings and soared, pressing over boughs and branches as the creature’s towering bulk maneuvered across the abyss, landing nearby, settling into the bounds of curiosity and intrigue. Maybe it was something entirely innocent, lost just as much as the rest of them, pondering and wandering until the end of time.

Love mends even the broken parts
Strangely enough, a small group of people and animals (which he assumed were Attuned) had gathered around the weird snow creature. The Launceleyn didn't know most of them, though that might've been because they were furry. Still, the summoner called out to the assembly. ”I can get rid of it, if you think it’s a danger.” It was snow, and there were any number of creatures Loren could call upon that breathed fire, emitted fire, or were just plain old made of fire.

Loren liked fire.
