DEIMOS
the resurrected sword
The tiger form was entirely foreign and new, alterations and adaptations all over again. Beyond the ears he hadn’t tried anything else – and that had been something out of his control – so on a whim, on a meticulous consideration along the rimes of winter, on the steps of his house, he altered. The shape was massive and broad, something he would’ve been accustomed to simply by the segments of his normal, human form, but this came with fur. His broken familiarity with tigers, however, had been accustomed to orange fur, this came with ivory and grey, patchworks of silver, nearly blue in some tips. He lifted a paw once or twice simply to study the stretch of unfamiliar hues and colors; reminders of frost, of mountains, of nostalgia pin-pricking its way over his mind.

So, out of habit, and because the morning had stretched into afternoon, he meandered down the lanes and streets, passing by in his form, unruffled and unrepentant by any bizarre insinuations of a tiger roaming its eaves and hills, straight to the bakery.

But instead of aligning himself at the front, he molded his way along the backyard, practicing either the art of stealth, creeping quietly, or out of pure amusement, knocking and chasing a few pieces of snow back and forth along the pads of his paws. Then, before he was distracted anymore by the tides of potential, he strolled towards Amalia’s back door, scratching at the wood.

Amalia
Still sitting on a shelf and never
Never seen the sun shine brighter
Amalia shoots through the backdoor of the bakery like a comet of fur and frost, made lighter on her feet by the lightness in her heart after her encounter with Safrin. She has long since figured out how to open the door with paws alone, and she has long since learned to recognize the scent and smells of her lover; why not greet him with full adoration, rekindling of the brightness he ignited that flowerbirth day?

She hasn't yet seen him in full feline form, and as she sails over him and settles on the snow the leopardess coils quickly around, taking in the majesty and grace of the silver tiger. Easily three times the size of the leopard, the sight of the big cat fills Amalia with a bittersweet sort of joy. It had been her grandmother's form too, though her nani was orange, but still the similarities are uncanny and heartwrenching, and the girl can feel her emotions spilling out into the attuned bond.

But she does not want to brood today, does not want to sulk. She wants to live the way Safrin wants it, the way her nani would have wanted- and so she begins by darting toward the larger feline, playfully swatting a pawful of snow up to his face as a form of distraction before darting around to bat at his tail.

DEIMOS
the resurrected sword
On her burst of color and fur, he focused on the streamlined emotions pulsing and pervading through their senses – confused, at first, by the heart-wrenching modicums, pondering if he’d erred somewhere again, unbeknownst to him – before they ultimately shifted in a boundless wake of energy and fervency.

Then, as so often things unfurled between them, there began a game, a challenge, administered by the sleeker Amalia, far faster, far swifter, than his bulk, than his brawn, true to life again. He snorted at first, the sounds shifting bizarrely through nares, staring down his nose for a moment before a wad of snow batted him straight in the face, and he was forced to shake his head to rid it off his nose.

A call to anarchy and mischief then.

He was far out of his element – used to carnivore reaches of human forms, where he hunted and stalked, where he preyed and manifested voids, these ones unfamiliar, but the notion still there, coiled in the back of his mind. While she instigated and invoked, swindling at his tail, he maneuvered forward, slow and steady and not quite certain of his levels of speed, before bringing back a massive paw. His intentions were to collect the snow on a long, lingering swipe, balling them up into a solid mass and launching it forward, perhaps sailing towards her side.

If there was laughter coiling through their connections, some warm rendering of amusement, that was all the better, intending to find some joy between the tempestuous stages of their lives.

She is swift and enthusiastic, well accustomed to this form, and it shows in the ease with which moves, the lithe and leaping leopardess finding his tail and batting it affectionately as he stalks behind him, giving him a chance to get used to the way his new body moves. When he moves forward she lingers back, waiting for the next assault, a feline smirk on her broad face: let him try to assault her with snow, she will take it and give all she has in return.

To which point: as Deimos swipes a huge pawful of snow back at Amalia the leopardess settles down on the ground, opening her mouth and gnashing teeth as she takes the mouthful with closed eyes and laid back ears. It may have been ferocious were it not so hilarious; as it is, the snarling leopard looks more like stuffed animal than a creature of the wilds.

Shaking her head to clear it of snow, the girl leaps toward the tiger on powerful legs, not even pretending to hold back as she aims to knock him off his feet, to send him sprawling on the ground and stand triumphantly over his svelte (and significantly larger, making this whole attempt rather hilariously impractical) form.

DEIMOS
the resurrected sword
The beast felt like stone and crag compared to her swift, sleek maneuvers, unaccustomed and unware of how much his figure could truly maul or devastate; mired and murky, senses overwhelmed and muddled. He only had a short interval of time to watch her snatch at the snow he’d batted – eyes widening in a bit of disbelief, the fragments of amusement beginning to brim back along his form.

Then she leapt – clearly intending to launch straight into him, and on impulse, on whims, on inclinations, he lowered his frame straight to the ground, hoping she’d merely slide over the top of him, go bounding and bouncing into the snowbanks and rime-filled loam. Something rankled in the back of his mind, an exasperation, a frustration, he hadn’t experienced since he’d first begun training with a sword, rough and uncertain, green and ineffectual, an inept fledgling.

He found he was being cautious. He didn’t particularly care for it.

Calculations and machinations were one thing, but lingering along the unknown, bristling in its hide, and being stuck along its ramparts was irksome, irritating, like a nettle, like a thorn, sliding down his ribs. Combat should’ve been something he was readily attuned to in any form, but this one had more power than he knew what to do with, and he held back – sliding along his own weaknesses, flaws, and defects, swallowing down the strange disassembled pride. Be better churned in his gut and pulsed over his figure, to himself, a refrain, a modicum, clenching in his jaw.

So he lowered his haunches, intending to gain more power, more momentum, more something, before launching for her.

She misses him narrowly, sailing over his lowered form and landing gracefully on the ground, her tail sending a wave of snow cascading out around them. Whuffing gently, she lowers herself to the snow, her haunches elevated, her shoulders down, ready to leap back into action at whatever provocation he may give.

It is strange to feel dominant, as though she has the greater experience, more understanding of her body and this world. She watches the tiger tense for the spring, his majestic body coiled and wound, already planning how she'll react. If leopards could grin she certainly would; instead she communicates her excitement and enthusiasm through a swatting tail and a yipping growl.

She is ready when Deimos leaps, rising up as high as she can, a spring unleashed into the air to try and clear him. She doesn't succeed, which is neither a surprise nor disappointment, because as the tiger crashes into her Amalia wraps her long arms around him, trying to scramble onto the soft warm belly she knows is there and pin him down.

DEIMOS
the resurrected sword
A sigh coiled its way through him; because maybe he’d been stumbling and bumbling around feeling inadequate and inexperienced, instead of truly taking the challenge on. The entire occurrence was overwhelming, flickering through his brain with a constant zeal of predacious fervor, strangled by the more human convictions of upheaval, dares, provocations, and the simmering, brewing contortions of ineptitude. But wasn't that how far was too - not waiting for anyone to regard it, study it, control and contort it? It was a stark reminder: his movements betrayed him, incapable of hiding behind a stoic interval, a calm, composed position, when everything maneuvered in a more direct way – no reticence, no hidden, tucked away nuances, muscles all coiled and eager for the fray; he was the only one seemingly caught in the lines of the unversed and bewildered.

Pull yourself together his thoughts meandered and slipped, just to himself, striving to slip past these nettles and barbs of irritation.

Because Amalia was excited and he should’ve been too, to have the capability of mauling and fighting in such a form meant for it; perhaps far more than the figure and entity he was used to.

He leapt, trying to entangle himself into the fervency, find the amusement, the play, the diversions, and she appeared to try and do the same. There was an abrupt movement of limbs anywhere and everywhere, her launch not successful in vaulting over his form, crashing somewhere along his shoulders and neck. The shock of it all ricocheted a growl through his form, and then her long legs were scrambling along him, as if to push him down, down, down, and he’d been a fighter, a warrior, for far too long to ever believe in sinking into the mire. He stumbled back, but forced himself to remain upright, far more of a struggle than he’d like to admit – pushing his brawn, his might, his shoulders, his bulk, back into her frame.

Four times her weight and more than twice her length, Amalia does not know how she expected to be able to best him and send him sprawling with a single leap. Instead they both land on the ground, the leopardess tumbling a little before lightly finding her feet among the snow. Springing up, she turns back to the tiger, still elated by the pleasure of play and the freedom she finds in this form.

But there is something shadowed in the Sword, not as delighted as she. Frowning a little, Amalia steps toward him, her broad paws leaving scarcely a trace in the snow. A curious "Mrrow?" leaves her lungs, rumbled out in question of his concerns- and is met with the impact of his brawn against her stocky form.

Perhaps Amalia could hold her bearings even with his greater bulk, but for whatever reason the leopardess tumbles down, back into the soft and frigid ground, her belly exposed as she lies upon her back. Licking her nose playfully, the feline adopts a look of submission, hoping to distract him while she sends another wave of snow flying toward him with a powerful sweep of her long, long tail.

DEIMOS
the resurrected sword
He didn’t relay his concerns over their bond; because they were small, trivial, petty, and moderately stupid, floundering around out of his natural element. Because tigers and eagles and whatever else coiled in his blood were new, foreign, and while exciting, and diverting, playing them into combative modes wasn’t second nature; something he’d have to adapt to, something he’d have to get over and discover. Instead, he shook his head at her curiosity, not expelling or explaining the layers of ridiculousness, casting them aside as more maneuvers came into their exploits and endeavors.

The beast didn’t expect her to merely flop down upon the ground either, on her back while legs remained wild; he tilted his head, knowing her far too well to even begin to note submission on her part. Resignation and docility tended not to be on their repertoire, so he was immediately suspicious, feline eyes managing to narrow a fraction, much more Sword-like than he’d been this entire time – before a wave of snow pelted him from their lengthy tail, swatting him along the head. It bound and collected on his fur until he shook, a growl ricocheting back through his lungs, reverberating in his movements.

Maybe that was all he needed; a nice, cold wake-up call.

Spurned on by the denizens of mischief, he dove his massive paws down into the snow, and then immediately lifted them up, as if he were half-launching into the air again. Except this time, he merely seemed to toss the intervals of rime, powder, and frozen ether back towards her, a tiger’s version of snowball throwing.

Something in her submission seems to set him at ease, and Amalia is glad of it, raising her head up in an attempt to land a lick on his cold black nose after her snowy sneak attack lands. Except that he is quick to retaliate; the leopardess squeaks her indignation as she takes a pawful of snow directly to her face, flailing paws as if to ward off the onslaught, amusement rampant in her mind.

Swiftly the girl jumps to her feet, swiping a clawed paw through the snow to send another cascade his way. And then another: without rest she tries to barrage him, any snow she can possibly manage to upset flying toward the larger cat as she leaps and chases, happy to land upon him should he let her, or to simply pursue until he strikes back.

Maybe it would just take time, experience, modicums of things he’d had long before, childhood training morphing and altering into adulthood rapacity – a release of apprehension, a keen sensation of comfort in the chicanery. He might’ve returned a nose lick had there not been retaliation and vengeance on his mind, a cloud of revenge, amusement rolling and coiling through their connection. The Sword supplied some of it, a warm chuckle, a sense of ease building, brewing, imminent contortions pummeling through the void.

There was a counter to his onslaught, another expectation, because neither were ever going to simply give in; not in their distinctions, not in their thresholds, not in their parameters. The snow bounded and cascaded into his face once more, painting over the gray hairs with more ivory, more chill, not even bothering to shake it off, savoring the spread of its existence over his hide. Instead, he burrowed down into the rime, rising again on a lunge, on a plunge, intending to push the snow anywhere and everywhere just based on his size and brawn. She kept a pursuit, which made his limbs coast into a fluid motion, circling back around, massive paws pushing the powder back at her once more, patterns of movement, persistent and relentless.

Oh, but there is delight in running about, finding delight and adventure in the simplicity of play, in chasing and indulging more animal instinct than human brooding and excess thought. With feline laughter and clear amusement she continues to chase in Deimos' wake, dodging waves of snow and ice and sending her own flying back in reply.

She pushes her body against the banks every time she lands, trying to send even more chill upon him, more interested in causing the most destruction and havoc than any sort of victory. Of course she is careful to avoid the frozen beds of flowers, the lavender and rosemary which have long since settled into hibernation for the winter. Suddenly she veers, trying to cut across the distance between them, to capture him beneath her paws and smother him with affectionate licking.

Perhaps that was it – less human contortions, more animalistic exploits, instinct and intuition, giving away machinations and calculations. It was difficult, when he’s always been a fringe of immorality and an epitome of coldblooded designations. But her delight kept a harmonious edge and border on his thoughts, immersing and intertwining amongst the other twists and turns. Until finally, amidst waves of snow, of ice, he simply had to let go.

No control, no tight, taut, tethered lines, just an expression of feral ventures and exploits – an exhale solidified as mortal, flawed, failed soldier, and an inhale on the boundaries of a savage, inherently barbaric beast. No excess of ruminations, hollowing out his core, becoming pieces and enamel and lacquer of the tiger, instead of the man.

And he could fathom destruction, havoc, wreckage, and demolition without flesh and blood.

He joined in the skirmish of disastrous efforts – a rampage, a battering ram of motion and movement, undulating, rippling accord of muscles and vitriol streamlined over the snow, lifting the powder into channels and tracks of devastation and oblivion. It flew in outward lines and scales, in all directions, while he struck, while he mauled, while he simply existed, in the moment. There were no plans, only a growl, a rumble in his chest, diversions and amusement finally sliding through. His feline eyes caught her veering, far, far swifter, and there was no way to avoid the impending collision.

Captured for an instant, he merely raised his skull upwards, not expecting the assault of affection, snorting, purring, content in the regards. In response, he gently pushed his cranium into hers, sliding his cheek and whiskers along in a demonstrative accord reminiscent of a head boop.

Oh, but in that moment she feels every piece of radiant and glittering excitement of nearly a year ago. Then he had taken her hands in his, pressed them gently upon his lips; now he wears a different skin, but the feeling of his face against hers is fire, the scent of him intoxicating as it fills her nares. Blue eyes, infinite and deep and kind; the leopardess meets them with her own dark gaze, the rumble of her happiness resounding between them. She responds to his gentle boop in kind, slipping her cheek over his before nestling against his neck. Safe, she is safe- and oh, it feels so natural to be here with him, to love, to belong.

For as long as he will let her she settles against him, happy to enjoy the winter afternoon here in his embrace. There is a certain peace here she has not felt before, the comfort of being in her most confident form while he is beside her in fur and grace... she clings to it, cherishes it, basks in this warmth until at last she is made to leave for food or cold or whatever reason, guiding him into the bakery for dinner before they make their way home for the night.
