Peter’s knack for not quite saying the right words, but Rexanna still managing to understand the underlying meaning, was something she appreciated more than he knew. She understood what he was getting at, and smiles in response to it. Because it’s true, they were survivors. And while she knew absolutely nothing, really, about Peter, she could at least gather that from their interactions – from his attempt and need for validation that she too needed.
He sits beside her, shoulder to shoulder, and she tilts her head to face him as though she can see him – trying as much as she can to appear as normal as she can. “You are great company.” She compliments with another smile, knowing that at this moment she’s not sure anyone else could be better. Too much sadness, too many ‘are you okays’, too many of everything she doesn’t want to hear. She wants something to keep her mind off of it, not to continue through it.
The mention of Adam though, causes a light snort and she listens while he explains he doesn’t know where he really left off, and a somewhat contemplative look crosses her face. “That he makes you happy.” She says in case it helps. That’s all she wants for him – to be happy, safe, protected. She thinks he deserves it, especially after what they’ve been through. “We can start off easy. How did you two meet?” After all, this is what friends talked about. And it was absolutely a start.
