Shaking his head, Loren crossed his arms. ”Not really. At least, not that I know of.” The Launceleyn offered Adam a faint smile, but there was a haunted look in the summoner’s eyes. ”Beatrix isn’t her kid, she’s my half-sister. My father was...ill-equipped to raise any children, especially on his own, so Zariah adopted Beatrix. Jace is my nephew, though, the son of Zariah and Neron.” Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair. ”But no, Zariah’s love has always been twisted. All of my family’s love has always been twisted, really.” His voice came out quietly.
Nodding, the Launceleyn laid his hand on the other man’s shoulder briefly. A pulse of blue light coursed from the summoner’s fingertips through Adam’s body, chasing away the last of the aches and the other damage from Loren’s cousin’s lightning. ”There. Should be all better now.” Then the Launceleyn tilted his head as he lifted his hand and dropped his arm to his side. ”I can heal those scars to. If you want.” This time, the summoner’s faint smile was genuinely happy, if fleeting.
It broadened into a full on grin. ”Thieving or no, I’m glad you two found each other.” Letting out a huff of laughter, the Launceleyn clasped his hands behind his back. ”Are you talking about Amalia?”
Then, though his smile faltered, though his tone remained kind. ”Listen. I’m part of the militia, so I should probably tell you not to steal. But you don’t seem the type to listen to authority and I have no interest in hurting you or Peter.” His hands came forward in a placating gesture. ”So long as you keep your stealing to a minimum, and don’t take anyone’s necessities, I’m willing to turn a blind eye.” Although his tone was entirely reasonable, Loren’s eyes were sharp.
Then, though, he snorted. ”Cool and sexy. Sure. Let’s go with that.” The Launceleyn’s voice indicated just how uncool and unappealing he found Adam.
