Dodge… ball. The game is unfamiliar to her, but the name seems to say it all.
Dodge the ball. On a court thing.

Now Wessex can’t really play because of the sunlight and all (even if it is at the end of the day and the sun is on the way down), but that doesn’t mean she can’t referee. Marking out two sides with large, thick branches, she goes to the Fiat Lux revelers with inflated ball in hand and announces that the game is ready.

As the players assemble, she announces the rules, which are really quite simple.

1. If you’re hit with the ball, you’re out
2. If you catch the ball someone else throws, they’re out.
3. You may do anything to dodge or catch except draw blood or make physical contact. Draw blood and you’re out and you might get stabby-stabbed by Wessex.
4. Once you’re out, your out.

-------------------------

We need a minimum of 4 people to play. I'll do a randomly generated team list. Then figure out w a way to do this XD

Healed from earlier exploits and ventures, he’d made a few other rounds of the various stalls he was in charge of, before heading towards games – a realization conforming that he hadn’t participated in any yet. Not one to forgo the potential for disaster, ruin, and amusement tucked within the two, he wandered his way towards Wessex’s constructed outlines, recalling some of the chosen diversions his group had selected during their preparations. Dodgeball wasn’t familiar, but sounded fine, something he could sink precision into with any of the other tactics instilled along his Machiavellian mind. So he meandered towards the Wraith and anyone else gathering for the festivities, granting her a solemn, stoic nod, and listening to her announced rules. They seemed fair, simple enough, despite a lack of drawing blood aspect (he hid his disappointment), and that there was left to do was wait for the rest to assemble.

Oh, the moment that Kiada hears that dodgeball is open, she makes her way through the crowd straight there. Of course Deimos is there too, and she finds her way to his side with a similar smirk of entertainment that lingers on her face in spite of what might have happened before. This one s he’s excited for, telling Wessex that she’s willing to play, before settling in and waiting until the teams are announced, to start, eyeing the items they’ll use to follow the rules and hopefully ensure victory.

Dodging a ball. Seemed simple enough, in concept. As a boy he'd watched the other children kick and throw such things on occasion, though he'd been a late bloomer in the sociability department (not that he hadn't more than made up for it in his teenage years). Since coming to Caido, though, he'd made far more true friends than he'd had in decades, and he'd found his sense of fun again, however buried beneath pomp and courtly affectations he tried to hide it. The chance to relive some of those childhood memories of games he'd never joined was as silly as it was enticing, and when he saw the General's stoic, bearded face standing near the roughly marked court, not even Wessex's presence could deter the bard from sauntering over to join the taller man and Kiada, grinning at them both. "Nicely done in your match with Loren," he congratulated the General. "I need to come back to the Barracks and train with you more, soon. Maybe if this game goes well we can drum up some interest in running team-fighting practices?" He suggested to them both with a smile. Each person out for themselves in a fight was fine when the sides were evenly matched, but being able to fight in tandem with others seemed an important skill for the future militia to have, too. And if he and Kiada had more experience fighting together side-by-side, perhaps they would have done better at LongNight...

Love mends even the broken parts
As Loren saw people gathering around Wessex, he figured it was worth investigating. So, he meandered over, though he stood at the back of the crowd. Unsurprisingly, many of the usual suspects were there as well: Deimos, Kiada, and Jigano. The summoner was just in time to catch the tail end of the bard’s words. ”I agree. You should train with Deimos, and I should take on opponents I can actually beat.” The Launceleyn shot the General a sheepish grin.

Then Wessex was announcing the rules. Loren nodded along. They seemed simple enough, so he settled in to wait for the teams to be announced. While he waited, he took deep breaths, trying to meditate a bit so that he’d actually be prepared for the activity this time.

Evens together and odds together. Wessex counts out the small group, not knowing that in the real game, large teams are preferable and yes, even more fun. But like any game, it seems like it can be done with at least two. “Ok, each pair on one side of the field. I’ll place the ball on the center line. Wait in human form on the outer lines of your respective sides until my whistle and then have at it. Oh, and you can’t go in to the other team’s area.”

She waits until each pair have lined up accordingly, places the ball in the middle of the center line and and then steps back to the sidelines. Holding her hand up, she wolf whistles with the othe, then brings it down quickly. Begin!

Ok friends.

There were 4 items in your list. Here they are in random order:

1. Loren
2. Deimos
3. Jigano
4. Kiada

Grinning at Jigano, Loren turned to face their opposition. He gave Deimos a mocking salute. ”I’m ready for round two, General.” The summoner nodded at Kiada, then took up position at the starting line. As soon as Wessex signalled to begin, he sprang into motion.

The Ascended had said that they couldn’t go into the other team’s area. Presumably she meant physically. But she hadn’t said anything specifically about magic, and better to ask forgiveness.

So as he sprinted for the balls, he also cast two spells. First, he coated the other team’s approach with ice, hoping to make it more difficult for them to get to the ball. Second, he summoned a bear, which went charging ahead to try and scoop up the ball. If successful, it would lumber over to the Launceleyn and give him the ball.

A small troupe gathered, arching his brow as they were paired off (Kiada and him – already a team in earlier intervals, trials, and dangerous exploits – a snicker rumbled through their Attuned connection). He nodded towards Jigano and Loren, but indicated nothing else, eyes narrowed, piercing upon the single designated object, the goal piercing and puncturing. He shifted to an eagle quickly, striving to avoid the ice, feathers, wings, and plumage extended in swift measures, hoping he could somehow evade the frozen water, and be faster than the bear. Perhaps his claws could snag and push it off towards their side, perhaps they could find purchase and carry it with him, perhaps Kiada could distract Jigano or grant her own attempt, a series of circumstances pending and unknown.

Why was it always bears with Loren? It probably said something about the Launceleyn man's psychological predilections that Jigano didn't want to know about, so he focused instead on the game about to start, giving Kiada and Deimos a rueful grin. A pulse of camaraderie through the Attuned bond warned Loren that the bard was ready to work with his partner against the dangerous duo across from them.

Wessex's lack of rules was refreshing. Confusing, but refreshing, and he waited as directed, slightly bemused by what was about to happen. At the whistle and drop of her hand he simple reached out with the shimmering threads of his power, using mastered earth magic to build up the ground beneath the ball and pull it down on his team's side, creating an earthen slide to roll the ball into his team's court, where it would presumably be safe from Deimos and Kiada according to the 'no crossing the line' rule. Loren's bear was already on its way to try and grab the hopefully rolling sphere, so Jigano shifted onto the balls of his feet, readying his action to dodge if the other team managed to get to the ball first and threw it at him.

A cheshire grin is sent to Deimos as they take their sides – icy eyes flitting to Wessex briefly before the ball, watching for the cue to start in the corner of her peripheral vision. And soon enough, the call is given, the mark of the start – and gods, things are already happening. The ground coats in ice and Kiada also shifts into her vulture form, wings flaring and flapping up and up above, an attempt to try and get out of the spray. Deimos appears to be heading toward the ball, and so Kiada calls out a guttural sound from her throat, attempting to try and distract the rest while Jigano adjust the earth that the dodgeball sits on.

Well, she can’t do anything to that, but she certainly can try to swoop down and distract the bear from approaching the ball.

All is fair in love and war and dodgeball.

We may never know why Loren has an affinity for bears, but between the lumbering beast (actually, do you know how fast bears can get? Grizzlies can reach up to approx. 35 mph. That’s faster than Usain Bolt!) his ice, and Jigano’s earth tricks, Deimos and Kiada never stood a chance. In fact, they critically fail at getting the ball.

Despite the faux father-daughter pair’s best efforts, the ball is neatly taken by the other team and the two of them meet with some very unlucky events. Deimos doesn’t shift in time, and the half-human half-eagle goes sliding on the ice, while the vulture makes it, but earns the ire of the bear. Maybe she gets just a liiiiiittle too close, because the bear’s paw catches her (not with his claws, mind) and sends her through the air.

So the bear grabs the ball but stumbles on it’s way back, dropping the ball and sending it rolling towards the edge of Loren and Jigano’s side of the field.

What do you do?
-----------
Now, the team with the ball will post first with their attack and then the other team will post and THEN I'll roll. Otherwise this will go on forever.

As the bear got and then dropped the ball, Loren kept running for it. In fact, he picked up the pace, arms and legs pumping furiously to try and reach the ball before it rolled over the edge of their side. At the same time, he had the bear go run to sit in its path, both to block its forward motion and to block any attacks Deimos might send his way.

Once he was hopefully within range, the summoner would try to pick up the ball with his telekinesis. If successful, he would hand off the ball to Jigano.

He'd kind of expected Loren to run with his advantage. Jigano was usually more comfortable staying back and being support, and Loren had a habit of running ahead, but this was a game that relied on teamwork and Loren was supporting him. He flashed his teammate a grin as he took the ball, quietly delighted that his fellow mage trusted him to take the first attack.

Maybe there was some clever way to use his earth magic to assist his throw or hamper his opponents, but in the spirit of the game he made his first throw simple and clean, with only the strength of his arm and aim of his human eye as he launched the ball low at the ankles of the struggling Deimos, hoping that the General would have trouble catching the ball in his half-shifted state, or at least that he would have to dodge rather than being able to catch it before it hit the ground.

On second thought, maybe Loren had handed him the ball to avoid having the other team catch it and take the Launceleyn out first...

Well, that could’ve gone better.

It was a tangled mess, truly, and the level of failure he embarked upon hadn’t reached such heights since his first venture into the local caverns. A heavy sigh lingered from his chest as he failed to properly shift (when had that ever happened?), arms like wings, feet flailing on ice. Eventually he came to a cease and desist moment, features flattened into nonchalance and apathy, clearly unimpressed with the entire scene.

The other team had made quick work of their allotted time, his eyes on the bear, on the ice, and everything in between, a clench to his jaw. Regaining the use of his arms, feathers gone for the moment, his hands drew together a shield of fire, massive and wide, in hopes of waylaying the ball’s progress and melting away some of the ice contorted on their side of the field.

Then, on a whim, he created another ball, passing it to Kiada – the knowing glances, the silent connection enough to ensure she’d be capable of wielding it. Thereafter, he attempted to shift back into an eagle once more, intending to fly high above the aimed assault.

--

Deimos creates a fire shield to melt some of the ice on their side of the field and maybe slow/burn the entire ball/he doesn’t care, creates another ball for Kiada to use, and then attempts to actually shift this time.
