but there's chaos brewing
underneath my skin
Portals and discoveries, a reshaping, reconfiguring, resculpting of worlds, an opening into more land, more ruins, more opportunities, and her heart lifted at the notion of the rumors, of the speculation. An ocean; and though it wouldn’t be like the ones she’d relished and cherished within Helovia, the fact that there was one was enough to set her restless spirit aflame. Together, vampire gourd and honeybee youth, rampaged and rejoiced, bag packed over her shoulder, along with weapons, ready to embark and encounter new, beatific, scattered moments, alight and luminescent, an effervescent plunge on the depths of her smile.

And when they arrived, it was like a dream. Fangorn hissed something, but the notions were gone, amiss, in her wonder and speculation, in staring out over the crystalline waters, in her unhinged jaw, in her widened eyes. “Isn’t it wonderful?” She questioned the pumpkin at her ankles, and then before she could even think (not a common thing for her to accomplish anyway), her shoes were off, her toes sunken into sand, hot and molten, a breath finally taken from her lungs. Then her limbs were racing, racing, racing towards the waves, the undulations of power, the promise of might, strength, and fortitude, a might and menace that had never been vanquished.

{Open! Anyone welcome! <3}

MERKESH
Merkesh was beneath the surface, tugging in the trap containing delicious crabs resting at the bottom of the port. He had not expected getting THIS many crabs which had made it all a bit trickier to haul in to shore. He was however a bit of a fish, able to hold his breath for an extended time underneath the surface which perhaps came from his long linage of pirate elders? Who really knew but he was grateful for it none the less.

His feet sank into the muddy sand as he pulled it to shore and felt like his lungs was about to implode from lack of oxygen as his head finally popped out from the water. He greedy filled his lungs with as much air as he possibly could while he pulled the crab prison into shore, much easier now when he actually could breathe. A huff there and a heave there and soon enough he was fully free from the sea, shaking his head like a dog before lifting up the cage, full to the brim of crabs struggling for freedom. The claws sticking out nibbed his skin but as he was used to such things he barely even reacted as he walked to a thick bag he left on the beach that was going to be the crabs final resting spot.

The bag was right next to a women (Melita) which OFCOURSE made a smile light up his face as he put down the crab nest next to her, since well, the bag was there. "Good day." He said as he kicked the cage to make sure the crabs fell to the bottom before opening it, then lifted it to empty it in the thick bag. Mhmmmm... crab on the menu. So what if it wasn't his trap? He had pulled it all back to shore so he felt obligated to help himself. Besides, wasn't like the owners of the cage had been around today anyways. Maybe they had forgotten the cage after realing it in yesterday. After all; the rope was broken and to waste crabs would have been a sin.

but there's chaos brewing
underneath my skin
Melita had expectations of the ocean and its swell, the familiar currents pulsing back and forth, the potent, powerful waves rushing over anything in its path, the splendid flora and fauna lurking and blooming underneath the surface. In some idle wonder, she pondered if her bracelet would carry her over its frame, if she could look like some wretched little Poseidon along the shoal, laughing gleefully in her nymph turns and twists. But for now the sea was something to bask within, the salty spray, the incandescent glow –

Then there was a man springing up from the water.

She stopped, reeled in his direction, ceasing and desisting any trail of thought. Normally she wasn’t one to halt midway, to stop and stare and do nothing – a fight or flight mode pathway in her brain (frequently on fight), but this was such a peculiar notion that she had to simply gape. Her eyes flickered to the unfamiliar frame, and down to the cage, watching crab legs and claws wriggling from its sanction and sector, begging for release. And then it was all suddenly next to her, and her gilded eyes widened, uncertain of where to go or what to do. “Good day,” she echoed, blinking, regaining some manner and matter of fortitude, Fangorn restlessly looming closer to the crabs. “What are you doing?”

MERKESH
The crabs rustled into place in the thick sack, the crabs escape all lost now as Merkesh tied off the sack to prevent them from crawling back to the sea where they all came from. The women seamed to be pretty much speechless from what she had witnessed which made Merkesh smirk as he finished the proper tie, finished about the same time as she finally figured out how to talk once again, with a peculiar creature looming around the sack of crabs. What was that thing? He listened to her question as he looked upon Fangorn quite fascinated to see something he hadn't seen before. Let the creature go with his eyes soon enough though to instead point them towards Melita. So many new faces around since the portals reappearance, he should probably check some of the new places out soon but didn't really feel he had to rush it either. Now to answer Melita. "I'm putting food on plates today. Well i'm not alone to do so but the feast will happen none the less. Crabs, fish, chicken, fruits and the most important thing of all; rum. It will be spectacular."

He said with honesty while stretching out his well worked body after the crab haul he just had finished. Felt almost like a old man for a second with joints popping as he twisted his back. Though considering he had struggled the crabs from the sea in to shore it might not be so surprising. Water dripped from his clothing into the sand under him but he really didn't seam to even think about being soaked to the bone. After all; it was kind of an everyday thing for him. If not food hunting it was treasure diving, ship mending and stuff like that. "So whats that creature you have? Never seen that kind around really!"

Seemingly fascinated, curious, and perplexed by everything, the youth was still momentarily lodged into silence, fixated on the crabs, pondering if she should attempt to free them or leave them to their damnation. Wasn’t this a form of hunting, like she often did with deer, rabbits, or anything else managing to traipse by? It was an enigmatic sort of acceptance – because she wasn’t a youth to shy away from death. She’d seen it too many times. “A feast,” she murmured, shaking her head, the crimson locks emboldened once more by the sea air. “Well, congratulations on your catch.” It seemed to be quite the haul, but as someone who hadn’t experienced this particular range of skills, she wasn’t certain. Fangorn balked when a crab claw came nipping for him at the edge of their entrapment, hissing in return, before scuttling back over to her ankles. “Is it hard work?” She noted as joints popped, as stretching accumulated.

Melita should’ve known curiosity would range back upon her too – considering where she came from, the difference between portals despite being on the same earth, the same foundation. “This is Fangorn,” an effervescent smile hastening, bending down to scratch the pumpkin along his head. “He’s my companion. A vampire gourd.” Maybe they didn’t have these along Torchline: which only meant there were multitudes of other things to explore, to discover, to embody.

MERKESH
Merkesh listened to the woman and nodded to the congratulations he got for getting this haul into land. When the question came however asking him if it was hard work to catch the crabs he couldn't help but to snicker amused. Since, well, it wasn't really hard for him to steal other peoples catch. He was the type of guy enjoying to reap the benefits that others had done. Sure; he could fish himself. He had done so all his life but why sit along for hours at end to fish up one decent fish when it was easier just to take it? This wasn't only when it came to fish either, he liked the per cure alot of different goodies. Not just food. So with that lurking in his head he decided to be a bit mysterious in his answer, not admitting that this had once been someone elses hard work. "Some may see it as hard work, but lets just say it comes natural for me. Been growing up with it all my life after all." Yes even though pirating was what he referred to. She didn't have to know this however.

As the conversation drifted towards the odd little pumpkin creature he let go of the secured sack of crabs to sink down in a crouch to investigate this vampire gourd closer. Watched as it got the pets from Melita, yes he indeed needed to start investigating the open parts of the world soon. To see what else might lurk in its grounds. He had seen most creatures in Torchline after all, even rare sightings of mythical beasts at his ventures over the sparkling blue seas, but obviously nothing outside of torchline. "Cool, never had many companions myself to be truthful." Except the occasional seal. He himself could however scout the lands high up in the sky as a bird which came in to good use to locate the next items to acquire.

She wondered if the snicker was for something else; not amusement, but another piece altogether, and the youth narrowed her eyes shrewdly for a moment. But she had nothing else to go off of, other than the faintest inklings of intuition, content to ignore the notions in her head, remove her socks and shoes and bury her toes in the sand. Losing all sense of propriety, she dug them into dunes and wet shoal, smiled, lavishly content with the feeling of yesteryears, of a childhood uprooted, gone and vanquished, suddenly existing in the merest stoke of flames and sun. “I see,” she mused, except maybe she didn’t. Melita understood hard work, the lines of callouses wrapped and scorched, but was bemused to sit amongst along the surf for now, coating the sand in between her fingers, allowing it to ripple and cascade through digits and along skin.

Fangorn eased away from the crabs, apparently believing he could naught to save them from their current dilemma, rambling back towards Melita where she waited with open arms. Curiosity for curiosity’s sake unraveled, listening to the waves, to the etches of sea, to the smell of the ocean ricocheting and colliding with too many memories – suddenly very inclined to wrap herself up in the current just to see where it would take her. “Do you have any interesting creatures here?” She asked instead, staying upon the ground, no matter how enticed.

MERKESH
Merkesh also had an inkling that Melita had her suspicions about him by now but not enough to say anything about it which in his head was quite amusing. The teasing possibilities not coming to the surface quite yet since a pirate seldom admitted that he or she actually was just that. But hey; they all survived in their own way no? He grabbed the lower part of his shirt to squeeze some of the ocean water out of it to help it dry quicker and considering the heat in Torchline it wouldn't take much more then an hour, two at the tops. Besides it was a cooling effect to be drenched in a heat like this, even though it was still warm from the sun.

As the conversation steared it's way to the creatures of Torchline a wide smile overtook his face since this was something he did have a lot of knowledge about. Out on the sea there was a LOT of things to run into and nothing was really boring on top of that. "Ohh there is a lot of interessting life around here so it all depends on what sort you are eager to hear about." He said as he flopped sown on the warm sand underneath him, digging around in his belongings to take forth a bottle of nice, home made rum. Uncorked it and took a generous sip of the content, fire spreading inside of him from that action. "Encantados you can find all over but we have all from the common species like merfolk to sea panthers and L'ma. And when you see something out of the ordinary its a real treat. But even haggling with merfolk can be quite interesting. How about you? Do you have anything neat at.. hallowed grounds i take it?"

They could weigh out their suspicions of one another in silence – almost as if they were circling, predator upon predator gauging and conspiring, despite Melita’s insistence on being splayed amongst the sand, toes dipped into the heat, the rush of yesteryears. She hummed something under her breath and Fangorn nestled his way down by her ankles, her fiery mind content to utilize the stranger for information at the very least. He seemed mutually agreeable, amicable, to do the same. The girl leaned forward, elbows on her knees, gazing out into the surf and swell, then back at the crabs, listening to the roam of words and phrases, names and titles, she’d never heard before: a treasure trove of vitality and sagacity. “What are they all like?” Greedy and grasping – she wanted to know them all.

As for their own spectacles at the Hollowed Grounds, Melita furrowed her brow, considering. “We have the occasional banshee, and rumors of things in the underground, beyond just ROUs.” She paused, gilded eyes focusing back to the stranger. “Then there’s the Undine in the Greatwood, and the Cat Sith.” And so many others she’d yet to know anything about – as ignorant as the rest, perhaps, but always striving to learn, to grow, to salvage what she could with her bare hands.

MERKESH
Merkesh snickered as her interest where piqued. He didn't mind sharing the legends and sayings about these creatures and throw in some personal opinions as well. Besides; he had his drink and the crabs were secured inside the bag. So without further ado he started the shortest description he could think of to not bore her. "Encantados are a mischievous but friendly little bunch that you never can put a finger on if they will be helpful or the opposite. One day they save your life and the other they will try to drown you by creating storms. Merfolk is quite what you expect, good to make deals with since they can find things easy underneath the surface. As a silly example; say you dropped something from your ship and one happens to swim by you can make a deal with them to get it for you. Then there is Sea Panthers; trust me if you ever run into one then calmly get the hell out of there. Not that it matters much since it's said you are destined to die if you ever see one. And the L'ma? Kinda like a wingless bird, never seen one personally however. "

He took a great sip from his rum before tilting his head to the side after hearing what she had described. "Well then! guess that means you have some explaining to do as well miss!"

She listened, arms folded over her knees, curled along her legs, taking in all the information the man had to offer. Her mind pictured a wealth of things, imagining, conjuring images of wildlife she’d yet to see or experience. The youth memorized the names, repeated them like anthems in her head: encantados, impish but friendly, something that reminded her of fey spirits, mercurial, whimsical, merfolk (a reel of excitement in those spiraling notions), and the rest. But perhaps the most intriguing was the Sea Panther. “Destined to die? Why?” Was it the ferocity? The power? The precision? The predator in its namesake?

Her turn came thereafter, and she hummed once more. “Banshees are roaming spirits, typically found in the woods. They’re dressed in rags, and sing a haunting melody.” She’d fought one once, helped, assisted, in those early days of monster hunting – enough to still leave a chill down her spine. “If they catch you, they try to strangle you.” A shrug, as if this was nothing. “ROUS are Rodents of Unusual Size,” which she figured he could surmise for himself. “The Undine sings on clear nights, and lives behind the waterfall in the Crimson Cataract.” What was left? “The Cat Sith is supposed to be a terrible omen in Ludo’s Woods – a black cat with a white spot on its chest. It tries to steal souls so they can never reach Ludo or Mort.”
