Originally, the plan had been to take over Quanil's duties at the VlamVloed, but the bar's master was elusive, and Freina had no desire to work for someone she knew only by her sibling's reports of them. They were a good sort, too good sometimes, and trusted everyone until and unless given a reason not to. She didn't work that way. Besides, who was to say the owner would want her working there? No matter how she looked at it, simply taking over the amorphous "contract" her sibling had with Sunjata didn't seem right.

And she wanted a place of her own. A door she could shut and lock against the world, with no one to gainsay her.

So she had prowled the Domiciles until she'd found an aba-... empty house. (She hated that word, she'd never use it ever again if she had her way.) This one was dusty with disuse, but not moldy, nor inhabited by anything save small mice and insects. She was going to have to do something about the roof at some point; that it hadn't given way yet was a small miracle.

It had a small back garden, and she'd have to tend to that, as well. Grow some good plants for dyes, she thought, as well as a kitchen garden. She'd enjoyed sewing and dying curtains and sheets for the Loreseekers' Guild; it wouldn't be a bad way to earn a living, if nothing else suggested itself to her.

For now, though, the house had to be made livable. She rolled up her sleeves - bless Kedran for bringing to her everything she'd accidentally left in her parents' house - and got to work.

It was a windy day, not too chilly, but far from warm. She opened all the windows and doors and set to work sweeping and dusting. By midday, she was standing in the front doorway - well, more like leaning against the doorframe - and catching her breath. The clouds were coming and going a good clip, and it might rain later, but she'd a few more good hours yet, she reckoned.

She looked up and down the street, wondering who her neighbors might be, who frequented the neighborhood, and for what reasons. Mostly, she just needed an excuse to take it easy for a bit.
