Let's decide to be the architects, the masters of our fate
The light of flowerbirth sent many men and women out into the tundra. Noah was not alone, surely, but thankfully he knew where to go and avoid the mass of hunters going to check on their usual spots. Noah trotted along the snow, large paws spread wide and keeping him mostly on top of it. Though, it was spring, and once and a while he found a soft spot in the snow and he stepped through, crashing down up to near his shoulder. It did not stop him, however. He merely shook it off and continued on, keen eyes searching.

He knew what he wanted. Ezekiel was still gone, and with him his skills. The younger Olson had always been adept at trapping smaller prey. Noah could never justify dulling an arrowhead for a hare, and his traps somehow never cast a shadow on Ezekiel's. However, with his brother gone and his traps unset and empty, Noah's stomach rumbling with the craving of the tender hare meat. Now, with his feline form he had found himself in, he could attain that craving. Therefor, he stalked. He had an idea of where he could find the creatures, knowing well where his brother's traps had been placed in the past.

In a small cluster of boulders Noah waited, muscles tensed in his shoulders, haunches, and long his spine.

The spring was not a time only left for humans to celebrate. Longnight scared all creatures. Darkness was filled with unknowns and predators that did not normally come stalking for the hares. So they waited, quick heartbeats even quicker than normal. When the sun rose, however, they sighed their relief and turned to forage what they could from beneath the snow.

One hare, stark white against the alabaster snow, could only be seen by its shadow and the occasional lift of its body to search for danger among the tundra. It moved closer and closer to the outcrop of boulders, nose twitching, twitching, twitching....

The lynx waited. The sun was warm--well, as warm as Halo allowed in the spring--overhead. Keen, blue eyes moved across the sparkling tundra before him as his ears swiveled atop his broad head. He stayed crouched between two boulders, waiting and watching. He did not dare move until he was certain there would be prey to chase, to follow in the snow. He had yet to test this new body of his, and excitement prickled along his spine. His toes twitched as he waited. He could hardly stand it. His heart was beating like a hammer against his rib cage.

Finally, he saw his opportunity. From around the west side of his hiding place, a hare hopped. It was not as large as some of its kin he had seen--and eaten--before, but he didn't care. He always knew that the animals were skinnier coming out of Deepfrost, just as the humans tended to be. Noah watched it hop a few more paced before him, it's large ears rotating and its nose scrunching up. He watched as panic filled it's eyes and it stopped. Noah knew that it had caught his scent. Now was his time. Suddenly the lynx surged forward, spring-like muscle propelling thick, muscles haunches and large, sweeping forelegs towards the hare.

KORBIN
Leave my loneliness unbroken!
- quit the bust above my door!
No sooner had the lynx set off than a flurry of black feathers joined in with the chase. The raven had been stalking the hare as well, a mere black dot on the bright blue sky. Its shadow had been pale and easy to overlook, but now it blackened into something vast, deep, speeding swiftly over the snow.

The raven quickly managed to get ahead of the two earthbound creatures, and with a raucous caw he swooped down to try and cut off the path of the hare, so that it would have to veer sharply aside or be caught between bird and cat. Korbin didn't know that the feline was attuned, or that the shift belonged to someone he knew. His goal was simple; help the cat catch its prey, and hope to steal a few scraps before the carcass was devoured.

Ah, but the best laid plans...
Quoth the Raven,
"Nevermore."

Let's decide to be the architects, the masters of our fate
The hare veered through the snow, panic raging through its small body. Noah dashed after it, his long limbs with heavy paws attached pushing him through the snow with surprising ease. His heart fluttered with exhilaration, but his eyes stayed focused on the hare as it raced away from him. This feeling, this chase, was intoxicating. He felt such pleasure now, running his game down. The snow beneath them had some give to it, some slick spots with a wetness that covered the top. It had grown accustomed to the absence of the sun, and with it bearing down now in the warm(er) season, the hare was slipping.

A flash of black, a flurry of feathers, caught Noah's attention. He had not been expecting the Hale to show up on this hunt, but as he changed the hare's direction Noah let a flash of his excitement surge over the bond. Korbin! He beamed for a moment, though his keen eyes never left the white hare. He pushed with powerful legs towards the creature, swiping a clawed paw in its direction. He felt the pads of his paw connect, but the wetness of the snow proved to aid the hare. It slipped and continued to bound away. Noah swiped again, harder and quicker and higher up on the body. He felt claws sink into flesh and he curled his toes, catching the hare on the hip. It was over now.

Noah quickly stopped his momentum and pulled the creature in, feline jaws opening and searching for the back of the hare's neck, sinking in well and deep. He shut his jaws, hard, and the satisfying snap of vertebrae beneath his teeth made his muscles relax.

KORBIN
Leave my loneliness unbroken!

The hare slipped. The lynx pounced. Missed, and tried again, and this time it succeeded in catching its prey. The raven, startled by the surge of emotion and its name being called from what he'd believed to be a regular snow-cat, veered off and landed in the snow a few feet away, watching impassively with flinty blue eyes as the hunter finished off the hare. Adjusting a few misaligned feathers with the heavy beak, the wings were settled in comfortably against the sides and when the plumage was all in order, Korbin focused his attention more properly on his friend.

"That's a new shift. Did not take you for the catty type," he remarked, thoughts underlined with the bird's thrill from the hunt and an innate mischief that always lay close to the surface in the raven. Korbin the boy might be drowning in misery, but he had been left behind the Citadel walls. (Or so he would like to pretend).

Let's decide to be the architects, the masters of our fate
With the hare good and dead, Noah let his jaw relax and he dropped the creature in the snow. Adrenaline still coursed through his veins, mixing and pooling with pride and satisfaction. He looked to the raven, his own blue eyes alight with the hunt. Noah didn't know, but he surely looked like any other snow-cat on these arctic plains after a hunt. Blood stained the corners of his lips and a sandpaper tongue came to the rescue. The man recoiled on his haunches, the snow hardly even a noticeable factor. He beamed through the bond.

'I wouldn't have thought of it either, but I guess that gods know something I don't.' He remarked, thinking back to how his father taught him that all shifts were god-given, from something they knew within the heart of the attuned. It was a small fraction of knowledge that Noah held of the gods. It was really all his parents had given him. After all, until two years ago, the heralds of the gods and even the gods themselves seemed more faitytale than real life. Noah lifted a paw to lick blood from between his paws. 'You want the pelt from this guy?' Noah asked, using his now-clean paw to point at the dead, white hare. His true question, which he was not sure he waned to ask, was how Korbin was doing. The tone of his voice gave Noah hope, at the very least.
