Bastien grinned, the thought of Azrael growing up into a mischievous toddler a surprisingly nice one; he found though that he had instant doubt his child would get to be that age, thinking that the Voice might well choose to have them grow up in an instant. As much as the father in him hated that, wanted to hold onto the precious moments when they were small, he knew he could not deny Azrael their fate. "Oh, if they are anything like me, there will be a lot of trouble; luckily I am adept at handling it."
Grief was indeed sneaky; Bastien had found it hiding in a glass Rexanna often chose, the shape his sheets took on the bed in the morning, in their wardrobe when her dresses were visible through the crack in the door. "I know. If it were not for Azrael and Pittore, I would likely wallow in it for much longer...but I cannot raise my child in a house defined by sadness." It was no way for a child to grow up.
Hearing that Ronin had been in the Grounds for Longnight was a surprise, Bastien immediately wondering if he had been somehow so beside himself in grief he hadn't noticed. When he heard why Ronin had been there though, that line of questioning fell through in favour of another. "Why would you take her from the stars? Is that not an honour Safrin bestowed upon her?"
