JACK
It felt like it had taken a thousand years to get here, but the Ark was finally setting sail. It wasn’t the brilliant sunrise of their LeafChange voyages - the sky was a storm waiting to happen, grey and close and spitting rain already, and the waves were choppy at best. But beyond the cloud cover Jack knew warm winds and blue skies awaited. All the more reason to get a fucking move on.

Letting out a sharp whistle from his place at the helm on the quarterdeck, it was a call for the men to pull up the gangplank at last and for any coming on board to fucking do it now. Jack still looked like he had been in a fight with Nate (because he had, even if it was an entirely one sided fight in which he did a great impression of a punching bag), but nothing could really dampen his spirits now.

It was time to put some knots between them and the port.

Welcome to the Ark crew and anyone else who wants to say bye! I’ll leave this open for 48 hours and then get ‘er sailing. <3

our sins are washed away
Saiden hiked a sack with some last minute supplies further onto his shoulder. Given that he wasn't exactly expecting anyone to come see him personally to say goodbye, he picked up his pace when he heard Jack's whistle. Once the cook was safely aboard, he set the bag down, rubbing the shoulder where it had rested idly.

Turning, he shaded his eyes as he stared at the gloomy horizon. Still, he didn't look worried about the weather. Actually, he looked downright elated: after far too long at port, they were finally setting sail. A wicked smile graced his lips and something imperceptible shifted in him, making him look far more relaxed and at ease than he ever did on land. Standing there, he simply basked in the atmosphere.

you must burn brighter than ever
Ready, willing, and able – the youth had long since packed her bags, proffered her goodbyes, remarks, and anything else towards friends and family (hoping they kept themselves safe while she was gone; seemingly difficult as it was with every other issue cropping up). She pummeled the regrets of not being able to keep them safe while she was away, tucking the emotions under her ribs, caged and contorted, desperate to not be homesick for the dramatics awaiting her when they returned.

Melita offered no sign of her irritation with any fellow crew members, keeping that under wraps presently too, smothering it down into the pit of her soul until an opportunity presented itself. No growls, no grimaces, no impetuous, impulsive designs – vengeance better sought at a later fortitude.

For now, she’d rather bask on the deck, restless and excited, anticipation glorifying anything else – adventure on the horizon, cannons at her beck and call, and the world awaiting on the other side. The honeybee child rested her arms along the deck railing, poised to catch the wind aloft, while Fangorn mumbled and grumbled at her feet, vines snagging out on all sides, bracing himself for the impending movement and motion.

you promised me sunshine, why's it gloomy? we'll wait 'til the night to catch the moonbeam
Of course, he wouldn’t let her go just on her own without a proper goodbye, now would he? It’s not exactly wise to show his face either, but luckily for him  - recently healed as he is – he takes to the sky on wings of navy blue, a parrot of sorts that didn’t look too out of place among the local birds that flocked through the sky. Only this one, this bird, would dive from above – slipping down toward the fiery haired girl and Fangorn as well to perch upon her shoulder.

He’s careful as he can be with his talons, choosing to spend a brief moment scanning the ship before his attention flickers to his niece, large dark plumed head moving to headbutt her cheek. And he lowers his head down after, something clutched tightly in his beak, before he drops it into her palm should she open it up. A dark blue pearl, like the one they’d found on the beach so long ago, made as a small token to sit along the rocks Melita always kept close to her.

Wees veilig.” The parrot croons to his honeybee. “Verlang na jou.” Comes the final comment, before Sunjata’s hopping off her shoulder to the rail, to flex his wings out once more and take to the sky once he’s ensured her goodbye was well enough, remaining long enough should she wish to say anything.

Wees veilig. - Be safe.
Verlang na jou. - Miss you.

JACK
And so it was. With goodbyes given - and Jack watched the navy bird with perhaps more interest than he ought to - he turned to the crew to call for them to haul up anchor, to ready the sails, to move. And the Ark did move, slowly at first, before her main sail dropped and caught the wind, billowing out and coaxing her to the sea for the first time in far too long.

The captain gazed back at Torchline only once, blue eyes narrowed, wondering what state they would find it in when they returned. But that was a problem for when they returned, and not a day sooner. For now there was business to conduct and a sun to put to their backs. Jack turned back to his ship, to the deep blue beyond, and allowed himself to smile, to relax.
