Standing in the sunlight laughing, Hiding behind a rainbow's wall
Finn's murmuring makes your breath go shallow and while equines don't quite break out in cold-sweats the way humans do, you can feel your flight instincts kicking in on high gear. There is a tickling in the base of your spine that floods down to your hooves telling you to run. You do not of course, instead pouring everything that you are in this shape, into Finn.

You won't be able to heal his fractured mind, and not only because it's out of the scope of your abilities. You don't think Finn is broken the way so many do. He's just different, like you, only the world hasn't been kind to him, the way it has with you. Healing bruised ribs, knitting together skin, smoothing away blisters and scrapes and all other physical ailments, you're forced back by the sheer darkness of the infection that swims in his veins. It's too powerful for even your magic. Perhaps with more time...but you aren't sure you can risk that now.

The floorboards suddenly cease their groaning as you shrink down, leaping nimbly up onto Finn's bed. Your wet nose presses against his neck, and you lick his cheek once before curling up in as small of a ball as you can manage (you're still quite big of course), with your head on his knee. You don't quite let yourself drift off to sleep so that you can keep one ear cocked toward the door at all times.
