Morgan
Snakes are biting at my heels
The worries that refuse to let us go
So far, Morgan's plans for Halo had been going smoothly. The gates were restored and fortified, the walls strengthened and guarded, the Council Hall built and providing the space she had wanted for her citizens. Now she was on the last step of her plan, admittedly the most challenging - this one would require the assistance of Gods, as loathe as she was to seek it.

Coming to the shrine and kneeling before it, she bowed her head. Morgan was not deeply familiar with the Gods, but thinking of her needs, she had decided to come to Frey (more specifically, the aspect of Nature). In her bag she had brought some fruit she had brought from the Grounds, even Longheat not producing much in the way of fresh produce in Halo; she laid them out before her as well as a small glass of milk and a charm she had bought in the market, depicting the two Freys intertwined around a small wooden tree.

"Frey, herald of Nature, I have come to ask for your assistance in a matter." She said, tilting her head up to look at the Shrine. "Halo is always a cold place; it's people are used to this. But in Deepfrost our Citadel reaches such low temperatures that even our hardy citizens cannot stand to be in their own streets. I was hoping the Gods might be able to assist us in creating a magical barrier that might keep the cold away from the Citadel in Deepfrost, to allow us to stay productive during this time. Of course, I am willing to do any work involved."

CHULANE

He would always be interested in the workings of the gods. And, given the opportunity to make it about work too, about his role in Halo, well, wild ningos could hardly keep him away.

Wild ningos, indeed, tried to keep him away.

The little shed-turned-office had become the beginnings of the farm he wanted to set up properly at Whitebrim. Hens, selected for their proclivity for producing large and numerous eggs, cocks (ha), selected mostly for their size and virility.

In short, the ningo farm beginnings were going well. The longer story was, Chulane had become rather good at dodging the little beasts, who had simmered down in temperament a lot since being offered shelter and food, but were still prone to randomly attacking their would-be wrangler with beaks and clawed feet.

Chulane, absolutely unused to having to think up offerings for gods, accompanied Morgan with a basket of fresh ningo eggs. They had been cleaned and were, in his opinion, the best the 'farm' had produced, so far. As Morgan made her offering on the Shrine, he too placed the basket of eggs before them, kneeling beside his Warden, mimicking her position.

He remained silent as she spoke, only summoning his own voice when she had finished - to add his own promise, his own pledge, to the Herald of Nature. "I am also willing to assist in any way I can," warm tones rumbled softly, sincere, if a bit unsure as to whether he was doing this right.

Frey
”The seasons turn. Some are more harsh than others, that is the way of it.” Frey’s voice seems to echo from all around, and before the shrine, the offerings that the two visitors have brought bloom and become something else entirely; eggs become a ningo feast, roasted bird and omelettes; the fruit becomes a feast of colours, mouthwatering and perfectly ripe; the glass of milk becomes cream, drizzled all across the fruit.

And the tree charm seems to grow out of the shrine itself - a temporary thing, of course - and Nature’s aspect of Frey appears beneath it. ”Sit,” they invite. ”Enjoy.” They do not hesitate, plucking up a ruby coloured strawberry richly decorated with cream, sinking their teeth into it. ”I can understand why a little assistance around Deepfrost would be beneficial. But it will not be easy - you will need the assistance of all in the Citadel. Do you think they will help?”

Snakes are biting at my heels
The worries that refuse to let us go
Frey's words that came first could be interpreted as a dismissal, but then their offerings bloomed into more; Morgan allowed herself to hope this might end well, sitting more comfortably and reaching for something to eat, not afraid to indulge when the offer was there. She had not seen this aspect of Frey (few had), nor many of the Gods, and she was transfixed by their beauty in a way she had not expected to be: it took quite the effort to not simply stare.

When asked if the people of the Citadel would help she nodded without a moment's hesitation, her faith in her citizens endless. "Absolutely. Especially with such an important matter at stake." They had come together to help her make the council hall, after all, and to reinforce their gate: this, if they were successful, would be more beneficial to the Citadel than those two things combined. "What would we need to ask them to do?" The only thing Morgan could not ask for was their lives, but she hoped Frey, who as far as she knew was interested in preserving life, would not want her to.

CHULANE

He'd not had an encounter with one of the deities of this world before, and when he heard the voice all around, he felt oddly uplifted, even if the words themselves seemed rather succinctly dismissive. He watched in fascination as the offerings they brought turned into much and more - as if fulfilling all potentials that they could be. To say he was a little bit mindblown would be an understatement; He was utterly enthralled, a smile on his lips broader and more genuine than what had appeared on his face for what felt like forever.

He complied to the deity's wishes, sitting, and indeed enjoying the feast - plucking a juicy ningo leg and taking a bite, infinitely pleased with the outcome. Chulane was with Morgan in finding it difficult not to stare, wondering if what the Warden saw was the same as what he saw, making mental notes of everything he could of this moment that he would write down later.

Then they posed a question, and he, like Morgan, nodded without hesitation. He deferred to his Warden to speak first, glancing to the woman with a wholesome and supportive smile, before turning back to the deity, the Herald. "What would you have us do?" he echoed, spreading his hands before him, as if offering himself to the deity. But he was more offering the people he represented, the people of Halo he cared for, he worked to feed and ensure their survival, with idle hope that he might help sway the deity into thinking them worth their time and effort.

Frey
They all settle in for a lovely little meal, and Frey takes great care in licking the cream and strawberry juice from their fingers as they glance between Morgan and Chulane. It’s no secret that, as an Abandoned, the Warden is on the back foot. But with the Attuned beside her, Frey is somewhat softened, and a smile spreads across their face.

”Then there’s no time to waste, is there? Let’s hop to it, honeys!”

Tasks. There is no time limit. There are currently 10 active Halovians. This means 5 unique characters have to participate. Characters can participate more than once. Chulane, Noah and Loren must participate in at least 1 thread. Morgan must participate in 2.

1. A PQ of 4 Halovians digging a trench around the parameter of the citadel walls (at least 4 rounds)
2. A thread of 3 Halovians searching for mageglass in the Fangs (at least 4 posts each)
3. 3 threads giving offerings to the Nature aspect of Frey within the Citadel walls (at least 3 posts per member)
4. A thread of 3 Halovians constructing an empty altar at the centre of the Citadel (at least 3 posts per member). The altar must be constructed out of inflammable materials.

Please feel free to reply once more to close out the thread!

Snakes are biting at my heels
The worries that refuse to let us go
Morgan was well aware of her position with the Gods but for the sake of her Citadel and the favour Frey was doing them, was willing to let it pass. The meal was a nice break from the stressful and busy life she led now and it was a great thing indeed that Frey agreed to help them with the plan; the requirements given were reasonable and she was confident they could complete them within the next season, ready for Deepfrost.

When she stood she gave a deep nod to the nature God, showing her respect. "Thank you for this opportunity. We will not let you down." Morgan promised, before she walked away into the Citadel, new determination in her mind.

CHULANE

He sat by and ate, hope in his heart, fascination and a quiet thrill at being in the presence of the herald beating away in his chest. Never could he have conjured this, imagined this himself - even though he'd lived here a great many months and made accomplishments besides, by default he thought of himself as a regular earth boy, and still expected regular earth things to happen.

Perhaps one day that would change.

The requirements were laid bare, and along with Morgan he expressed his understanding, but could not quite contain his excitement at getting started. "We'll get the stonemasons working to put only the finest materials aside for the altar. We'll have to get the trench done before Longheat is over, else the ground will freeze up too hard again…"

Realising he'd gone straight into planning mode without otherwise acknowledging the herald's opportunity, he corrected himself, and smiled both sheepishly and enthusiastically at Frey. "We won't disappoint."

Then with a respectful bow, he made his exit, following in Morgan's footsteps, feeling lighter than he had in an age.
