Trigger Warning
DELPHINE
Drug Use~

She felt like she was suffocating, falling to pieces. Things were wrong, they were right but they were wrong. She'd stashed the herbs she'd picked up in Torchline, literally in plain sight. Her beloved himbo Noah didn't know enough about herbs to question her. He also had no reason to think any of her herbs were purely for recreational purposes.

Noah was going to be busy; there was an illness making its way through Halo... and Delphine didn't seem to be of much use, the few times she'd stopped in at the infirmary. It was overwhelming, the fear that Noah was going to leave to help with the illness, that... well, maybe he'd leave her because she was useless.

And so, after seasons of being clean, she did the one thing an addict always does. Delphine turned to her favorite source of hallucinations, mixing herself tea. She fluttered around the kitchen anxiously, as the tea steeped. If he came home right now, she'd have to offer him tea... And then he'd know. And she wouldn't get to run away from her thoughts and her worries.

The tea finished, and Delphine inhaled the familiar scent, tidying the kitchen up. Her thoughts were of two sides; part of her was worried about the illness, the other was worried about Noah. And it was wrong of her to fret over whether he'd stay or leave, or whether he'd have time for her until this illness was resolved.

Soon after downing the cup of tea, Delphine was leaning back on the couch, much like their first night together, though he was not underneath her this time. She was watching what looked like glowing wisps float across her vision, as hallucination after hallucination drifted across her field of vision.

The mural of the forest on the wall transported her back home, to the forest she used to dance in. Not to Northhaven, but to Northwind. The forests she ran barefoot through, her mother and her father and Alder... were all alive.

And soon, as she slowly drifted into her fantasy world, she began to calm down. Of course, she could go see Loren about her anxieties, have him help her, or even help herself but she believed that doing that much healing on something such as anxiety or depression would make it worse.

She didn't want to get worse. She wanted to get better. That way, maybe Noah wouldn't leave. Maybe he'd stay, and put her before his duties and... Wishful thinking, but she couldn't help it. She was so lost in her hallucination-filled visage, that she did not even hear the door open.

His duties had kept him out of the house for a while. He merely slept here, at the side of Delphine. Having returned from Torchline at the spread of an illness meant that all of Noah's attention was pulled to his work: hunting and tending to the people of Snowcloak. It was no surprise--to anyone on the outside--as to why Delphine would feel like he was slipping away. The truth was, Delphine was Noah's first experience with love. Affection and feeding and taking care of the fire within the hearth all came easy. They were things he was good at. The things he knew in his head he needed to do -- talk with Delphine, spend time with her, plan with her, give and take and give and give again -- he was still learning to do.

And lately he was failing.

He was the cause of her anxieties. That was simply true.

He would need to be the one to mend this.

The door opened and the hunter stepped through, his arms full of dried firewood for their hearth. He hardly noticed her laying on the stitched leather couch as he moved towards the fire. He set the new bundle down in the holder with older wood, and he tended to it. He fed the fire and stoked it, "Delphine? Are you hungry?" He asked, oblivious of her state of mind.

DELPHINE
Delphine was so lost in her drug-haze, that she didn't register Noah's question, instead she was trying to catch little butterflies that were fluttering around her. They were pretty, translucent, and...

"Mmmm," she rolled onto her side, giggling as she caught sight of him. "Noah! When did you come home?" She inquired, pushing herself upright to beam towards the man. She was still upset, still anxious, but the favorite drug that offered the favored high helped.

"Want some tea?" She inquired, already on her feet, heading to the already-made tea pot. She'd only made hallucinogenic tea, but... right now, she wasn't thinking about that. She'd pour him a cup and offer it out to him, briefly staring at his hair, because it looked as if it were on fire.

"Pretty."

The oblivion did not last long. The hunter pivoted on his heels, his body still crouched down from tending the fire, before Delphine spoke to him. He watched her, carefully, as she turned her body towards him and finally realized he was there. His brows knit together and he stood, pushing off his knees with his forearms as a small grunt left his mouth. "Delphine...what are you doing?" He asked, standing before the fire in place where he had risen. He did not move at her request, but watched her dance across the room towards the tea kettle instead. His mind churned a little as he watched her.

The hunter knew she had a tendency to ask a little ditzy as an avoidance technique, and she always placed the care of comfort of him about her own self. "Del, look, I know I haven't been around a lot lately and I am sorry for that. We were gone in Torchline for so long and when we came back there was a sickness and--wait,--Del, what did you take?" He asked, the puzzle pieces fitting together in his mind. She'd been clean--or so he thought--for seasons now. He felt a ball tighten in his stomach. The way she looked at him, or rather his hair, told him that she was not really here.

DELPHINE
Delphine continued to hold out the tea cup, reaching with her free hand to swat at the fire that was his hair. "Excuses, excuses," she mumbled, holding the tea out towards him, beaming brightly.

"Have some tea." She insisted, and once he'd taken the cup from her, she was off again, wandering the living room to study the walls. Once upon a time, hallucinating had helped her paint.

And she can see what the walls need, despite the forest scene they'd painted seasons ago. "Hm." She mused, reaching to touch as high as she could on the wall, where the paint was not as clearly painted. "Gotta redo that."

She practically ignores Noah. "Tea, tea, tea," she mumbled, abandoning this task to wander back into the kitchen, and start another batch of tea. Regular tea, of course, she's out of herbs now.

Noah did not drink the tea handed to him. He knew better. He knew that whatever was causing her to be in such a stupor was in this tea. Stiffly, he moved over to the window near the kitchen area and opened it. Without hesitating, he threw the tea out and the cup that held it. Closing the window, the hunter turned back to the painter and barked at her. "I SAID ENOUGH."

While Noah was not a violent man, and not an angry man, he wanted to scream.

Instead, he walked passed her.

Without saying anything else, without looking at her, the hunter simply slipped back into his parka and left her, standing along before her mural.

{FIN - chronologically next thread is dragon + her disappearance.}
