there's always a glimmer in those
The journey back towards the Mountain’s Roar had been a slow and steady one, rather than her usual impulsive, impetuous pace. The object in her hands was the only notion, the only reason, the only semblance registering a regulated stride, Fangorn at her heels, eerie eyes glancing upwards, watching her carry the petals, the blossoms, the precious lily. She turned her head back towards Oliver as they roamed closer and closer, the rush and familiar sounds of the waterfalls bounding, ricocheting off of cavern walls, a sign they were making progress, that this wasn’t for naught. “Can you see if there’s an archway near it?” As they stepped along the pool, the springs, the leading rivulets – and any other time, the girl might’ve gaped and gasped at the sights all over again. But for once, the mission was steadfast in her mind: Get the lily to the archway. Place it with the others. Help to mend the sick.

Everything else could wait.

The plant was thankfully carried by Melita. Seeing as she had a gourd for a companion, Oliver completely trusted her with carrying the plant. She obviously had experience with things like that so, yeah. He was gonna let her carry that because knowing his luck, he'd trip and somehow eat the plant.

Glancing around, he offered her a nod. "Yeah, I can go look for it." And with that he set off, looking around for this hopeful arch.

At first, he didn't see anything really. It's... kinda just... hot? And lava? And magma? It's not very lively.

He was starting to get anxious, worried that there wouldn't be anything before he saw a waterfall. "Did... they mention a waterfall? By any chance?" His eyes flicker towards her but he continues to slowly move towards it.

She truly couldn’t quite fathom where or what they were doing, beyond the bare minimum of getting to some archway with slots, and placing the bloom within. With her mind wrapped around every single god damned nuance, any other semblances could’ve slipped from her thoughts. The youth figured Oliver would at least have an ability to find the relic, while she tended along the banks and shorelines, eyes flicking back and forth over rock walls, expecting to anoint something hidden around ledges.

Her head perked up from around a particular boulder as he sauntered near the waterfall. “Maybe? Can you check it?” Fangorn grumbled another intonation, mostly incoherent, while her hand not occupied by the flower ran down the length of more stone, expecting some concealed lever, instead of something in full view. Would they want it to be furtive, secretive, unknown to other prying eyes?

Neither of them had all that much confidence. There wasn't much that they could exactly do, but Melita did tell him to look further. He wasn't about to miss the drop off location just because he was too lazy to check every nook and cranny.

And so, he pushed on forward, moving towards and behind the waterfall.

Right before him was a gorgeous lily, delicately placed right where they were supposed to go. His eyes widened and he quickly turned around, moving to appear from behind the waterfall. "This is it! This is the place!" He called out, hoping that she could hear him over the roar of the water. Oh, thank the gods! They had found the place!!

Nothing, nothing, and still nothing that rang out around her, and she could feel the frustration beginning to build, beginning to swallow, beginning to consume, and no amount of deep breathing was going to curb it –

Until Oliver’s voice called out, excited and pitched, and the youth immediately straightened, taut as a spring. Eyes focused and honed on his location, her legs were instantly bounding, long, limber things, maneuvering without much care for anything else. They were already here, and there probably was no need for the heedless, unrelenting rush, but she wanted the task completed. Done. Finished. One more step towards healing those who needed it.

“Good job!” She declared, breathless for a moment, staring behind the waterfall, gaze taking in the slots, and the blooms already placed within. There weren’t many.

But that wouldn’t diminish her. Her hands moved to gently put the lily along an open space. Only when her fingers released the stem, the petals, did a segment of relief amble through her. “We did it.” Her grin widened, her feral smile exposed, before she began to look around elsewhere, for anything else that moved, inspired, or invoked her. “I’m going to stick here for a little bit and explore.” He’d be welcome to do the same.

The red head comes rushing over and Oliver guides her to the spot to place the flower.

Anxiously, Oliver watches as the lily is delicately planted alongside its friends, reunited once more. "I'm... honestly? Fuck, I'm really happy it was this easy... like fuck." Speaking of it being easy, Oliver really wasn't too keen to stick around for much longer. Yes, he prefers hot stuff over cold stuff... but not lava. Please: just no.

"I think... I should probably head back... I'd love to stay around, but nah... but I may bring some stones back with me for the shop." Some rocks would do nicely seeing as they are perfect for intense heat. "You'll be safe... yeah? If I leave?" Just to make sure she was going to be alright before he departed.

It had been easy. For once in their lives, it had gone relatively smoothly. The relief coiling its way through her bones was a palpable, tangible thing, springing down into her limbs, so that her feet were instantly restless. “I’ll be fine.” An assurance; she usually was. “Thank you for helping. And hopefully everything will go well from here.” A bright, broadened grin, partially out of repose, partially because the faith was that others would do the same – march over the lava plumes, placing the lilies were they needed to go. In time, they’d have enough. Everything would return to some relative normalcy.

Until the next damned crisis.

She waved Oliver off, only taking a few extra moments for herself. Eternally drawn to rocks, stones, particular and peculiar hues, the youth crouched down much like she would’ve along the banks of the Stonesong, or along the sea’s shore, hunting and scavenging for anything she thought of worth. Eventually, she snagged at a few radiantly polished obsidian rocks, carefully placing them in her pockets, wondering if they’d be of some value to Tanau, or whatever god would grace the rest of the with mending properties. Then she and Fangorn would wander home; the mission completed.
