“A prince.” He agrees quietly, Lusea’s pet name for him ringing in his ears as if she were there. Princeling. And oh how he’d hated it at the time, rolling his eyes, huffing his annoyance. Nobody has called him one since, and he’s not sure if he’s thankful that she’s the one that the memory sticks with or if it makes it slowly bubble more hurt the more he dwells on it.
But he draws quiet, listening instead as she speaks, as she relates. “He was a different breed.” That’s how it felt. How the man had felt absolutely nothing and relished in the cold cruelties of life as if they were trophies waiting to be placed on a shelf. He has nothing else to say for the time, however, just simply sitting there and dragging on his cigarette and letting the smoke curl around his head, around his nose.
If one thing, he can’t imagine what it was like to truly have things fall apart with others like she did. He had always broke down himself, alone, everything went from bad to worse but it was only to him for quite some time. He does look over to her when she speaks of working on machines, a dark brow raised, a small half smile. “I haven’t thought about machines in a very long time.” He offers quietly. For as backwards as Korofi had been, it had been far more technological than this place was. He’d had guns and cars, motorcycles and tanks. But he nods to her as she goes to pour herself another glass, not stopping her should she even want to keep the entire bottle to herself.
The smile fades, however, as she tells him not to take it wrong — wondering where she planned on going with it. And it makes sense — because he didn’t have anyone like that from his old world. “Now you’re alone, trying to pretend you don’t feel like you’re failing at being your family’s protector because some goddess snatched you in the middle of the night?” He raises a brow to that, before leaning forward to grab his glass and take a sip, taking the moment to also tap away the ash at the end.
“It takes time and it’s hard. But there comes a point where you can either wallow about it and disappear or try to pretend things are fine and move on about your life. And trust me, I’m very good at wallowing.” He rumbles, a mirthless smile crossing his face again. “There is a chance that they could make it here… Slim, but it’s there. My girl Lusea arrived here shortly after I did.” He murmurs softer than before, as if it’s tentative. “My father killed her a few weeks before Saar and I left for a couple of years before I arrived here. A few months after and she shows up at the Spire.” A raise of his brow to her as he casts his gaze back to Aurelia, shrugging.
It was a possible thing, not aimed to get her hopes up, but to hopefully make it help.
