From being an Abandoned who had rarely left the Hollowed Grounds, to embracing the call of adventure, to dying and being reborn first as an Ascended and then as an Ancient, Maea has gone through quite the amount of changes in her life. One thing remains common, though, in her attempts to find out just where she belongs; she’s always had a craving for knowledge which has brought her to so many places and to meet so many people here in Caido. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for her!

the hailstorm
The arrange the time, the place. And so Neron arrives promptly after the sun has set, dressed in his usual attire (read: black, formal, but suitable for the ice) with a lionshead cane tucked under one arm, pulling on a pair of sleek leather gloves. He's standing at one of the many entrances to the Fangs - this one has been indicated to him in Loren's report to have led his group down into the mountains. Down to where the wall of mageglass stood.
There is no need for lanterns, no need for food or water or other reserves, and the Ascended is particularly light in his supplies. He imagines they all will be, given their natures and the fact that it's dark. Still, he's got some rope and ice picks with him, just in case there's anything they need to hack through. Once everyone shows up, he will nod and beckon them through.
"Watch your step," he warns.

Ascended Pocket Watch | In the hands of an ascended, when this watch is opened within 5ft of anyone, it will reveal one of their abilities (shifts, powers, upgrades, etc) at random.

Cobb’s Cane | A mysterious walking stick topped with a silver lionshead. When tapped twice in succession against a surface, Basic Abandoned magic is nullified within 5ft of the cane for 1 post. One use per thread.

Amun couldn't help but grin at Neron. Really, the Hailstorm's entire look and demeanor was entirely too dark. "Why so serious?" The potter was dressed in a mishmash of warm weather clothing. There was rope coiled around his body and a pickaxe in one hand. A shield was slung on his back, and he had metal sheathing his arms.
Glancing at the rest of their motley group, Amun winked at them. "I do so love our family vacations. We go to the coolest places." Fully intending for that pun to be as terrible as it was, he waggled his eyebrows even as he started to make his way into the cave that Neron had brought them too.
In addition to his upgrades, Amun brings rope, a pickaxe, warm weather gear, and metal armor that sheathes his arms, as well as the following:
Type: Grey
Warning Device | A stone that glows green until the centre of it (or its twin) is pressed, then they both glow red and vibrate (Made by Remi).
Type: Dark
Fire Resistant Shield | A lightweight but strong shield that resists fire magic. Made by Remi.
Type: Grey
Illusory Cloth | A 3x3 square of rubbery cloth. When used by an ascended onto ascended skin, it can mimic the texture or colour of whatever the applier is thinking of (changing eye colour over one eye, bits of hair, adding a scar, etc)

Everyone seems to be in relatively high spirits, and the demigoddes decides she can't ask for more than that. With Neron coordinating the location and time, she is able to take a back seat to the planning, which, quite frankly, is a relief. Wessex comes prepared, or so she hopes, with various items that may help in mental tasks, whether it be a maze, puzzles, or teamwork. If the mines have been shielded from the Voice, she imagines there won't be much in the way of Ascended-puzzles, but you never know.
Rolling her eyes good naturedly at Amun's pun, she heads in to the mine after the potter, alert and eyes peeled for whatever obstacle may come first, be it living or not.

Wessex arrives with several spools of twine, a pair of crampons, something to make a torch, some red dye, and the following:

Manufactured Adrenaline | a syringe containing a daily dose of adrenaline. Can be used once per thread. Raises all stats by 1 for one post and increases an ascendeds other senses for the duration of the thread.

Monster Repellant | Will make the air hostile to the senses of any predatory monster-like creatures. Sufficient strength and mental fortification can overcome the effects of the spray. Works in a 30ft radius.

Restraint-cuffs | A magical pair of handcuffs that can restrain any creature with a STR of 30 or below. (Made by Remi)
Type: Grey
Shadow-Cloth | A cloak that renders the wearer invisible when in shadow. (Made by Remi)

Magical Crystal (1) | When (abandoned) magic is cast at this device, it can store the power and reuse it as controlled by the wielder. (Made by Remi)
Though it's not exactly what he'd set off to do, Nate finds he far prefers the cool touch of Halo to the fiery one of the Climb. And he's already ready to go for an adventure, how convenient. Pemota drifts around his shoulders, never far from him now, illuminating his dark-clad figure with crackling starlight, while his face is illuminated by a bright grin.
He's just late enough to miss Amun's joke, the last little bit of humour before they descend to the icy depths, and one he may truly need. There's no hesitation as Nate steps into the cave, but there's definitely an anxious slant to his grin as he turns back to Neron. "You waiting for an invitation to join us, huh?"
Nate brings a length of rope, a pair of crampons, a hammer and pick, a box of matches, and a mundane bow and arrows; as well as the following very useful items:

Needle & Thread | Needles change size and thread changes colour depending on the user's wants.

Injection-site Healer | A small U-shaped device with two round balls on either end that when used by an ascended on the bitten-skin of a non-ascended, instantly heals the injection-site marks.

In you all go. The pathways of ice wander and wind, revealing frozen corpses and any number of other bits of exploration equipment from fallen miners. It's a good thing none of you require sunlight to keep yourselves warm or to see by, because after a few moments darkness descends utterly, and the temperatures swiftly drop as you descent down deep into various mineshafts.
You come to a door, and see the following. Not unlike the entrance to the Spire, there are spaces into which you might input your answer upon the door.

The caves swallow them up, though the effects of being wrapped in a perfect frozen blackness are somewhat lost on them, ascended as they are. If anything, the longer the quiet dark stretches out, the more relaxed Nate grows, until they come upon a locked door.
Nate stares at the door, at the words already there, the numbers. He’s trying to figure out the connections, what it could all mean. The number of letters in common? Something else? It takes him an embarrassingly long moment to actually notice the blank spaces, but when he does, everything clicks into place easily. ”I got it.” Reaching out, Nate traces the word ‘ADEPT’ into the blanks, counting under his breath to come to each letter.

They made it through the first door and Amun flashed Nate a grin. Then they came to the second one and it stumped him for quite a while. Scanning over the words and the letters on display, he found himself frowning and ticking off on his fingers.
Wishing he had some sort of paper, he eventually puzzled through to a potential solution. Glancing around at the group, he stepped forward. "I can try...something. No promises though." Reaching up one finger, he traced the word IMMORTALITY into the blanks, holding his breath as he did (not that he strictly needed to breath, but it was the principle of the thing).
The temperature is plummeting now, not that it bothers any of you. Perhaps because of all the stars visible in Halo thanks to the lack of light pollution, the third puzzle is this:

Had they the breath, it would have been fogging the air before them as they descend ever deeper into the black. The stillness of the world around them is fathomless, interrupted only by the appearance of another puzzle. Neron examines it for a few moments, perturbed by the content of it, but smirking as he thinks he has figured it out. Constellations and cuisine. Who would have thought this would be lurking so far beneath their feet in the Fangs?
"Let me try," he suggests, moving forward to trace his finger over the spaces, spelling out R A M E N. "It's a little silly. Hopefully it doesn't turn me into food if it's wrong." He scoffs, standing back again to see what happens and glancing around the group.
It doesn't turn Neron into food. Instead, it opens easily and the group continues.
For this puzzle, the images on the doorway seem to be inclined to be pressed in. As if hte odd-image should be selected out of the group.

So far so good. Down they go, and soon it’s Wessex’s turn to step up. After conversations, debates and revelations rife with cursing and WTF moments, they finally emerge with something that seems right.
For the first group, the Wraith pushes the bottom left, man winning race block in.
For the second group, the Wraith pushes the top right, couple block in.
For the third group, the Wraith pushes the top left, music note block in.
For the fourth group, the Wraith pushes the bottom left, windmill block in.
For the fifth group, the Wraith pushes the bottom left, e-reader (not that she knows what that is) block in.
For the sixth group, the Wraith pushes the top right, neon sign block in.
There is no breath to hold in anticipation, but if there were, as she pushes the last block in she sends a prayer to the Voice and hopes they’re right.

As the blocks are pushed in, nothing at all happens until the sixth and final block is correctly entered. Then, the selected blocks are illuminated, and beneath them suddenly appear 4 spaces, for four words.

Thankfully, the pictures they entered were the correct ones. However, the door didn't open: instead, the images they'd selected started to glow. Staring at them, Amun sighed, shaking his head.
Turning to the rest of the group, they conferred, throwing suggestions back and forth for a while. Eventually, they came up with a potential answer. Stepping forward, the potter lifted his hand to the four empty spaces.
Hesitating for just a moment, eyes tracking over the images one last time, he began to trace words into the slots. He moved carefully, not wanting to screw this up. Finally, he'd written "ONE IN A MILLION."
