eyes can't shine unless there's something burning bright behind
The day was hot, too hot for exploring. But Aurelia hadn't known that when she'd set out to venture up the mountain earlier that morning. It had been way cooler, cloudier, and breezier - but the tides had changed and now the sky was clear, the sun was blazing, and the wind was dead. She carried a spear, a water flask, and had set out to do some hunting-gathering-exploring. Whatever came first, she supposed. Although, at that point, her spear had been turned into more of a walking stick.
As she made her way up a shady cliffside, sheltered by tall jungle trees, a voice from the air made her stop. She whirled around to see who was there when, suddenly, a pink bird flew clumsily into her face, wings slapping against her cheeks. She stumbled and it was all downhill from there. Literally.
The ground beneath her grappling feet crumbled. Her hand lost its grip on the spear as it uselessly fell back onto the path. The rocks came loose and she was suddenly sliding down the cliffside. She gasped, fumbling for something to grab onto with her hands, not able to see the bottom of the cliff. Alas, the plants were not strong enough to hold her weight. Her scream split the sweltering air, spooking a nearby flock of birds into the air.
She landed with a heavy thud on the ground. She'd fell a relatively short distance but, the walls all around her were steep and she was stuck in some kind of fissure. Not to mention, she had hit her forehead on the way down. The cut there was deep enough to cause blood to run down the side of her brow. She pressed her hand against it as she sat there in defeat, feeling her heart thumping in her chest and panic begin to set in. "FUCK!"
