MAEA

Trouble was stirring in Torchline tonight. Flames rose towards the sky off by the Slagveld, and it was probably drawing quite a crowd. Maea had not gone there to check. She had other plans for the night. While the disturbance served her purposes to some extent, she was still displeased with it. Now her own mischief would not make the same impact. It had occurred to her to wait, and save it for another time... But she might as well do it now. The risk of getting caught would be smaller this way. She hoped.

She teleported herself across the city and appeared with a faint pop before the Wren Society. Looking up and down the street, everything seemed calm. Draped in dark clothing to blend in as much as she could with the night, she wore gloves and had wound dark rags around her head and face to conceal the striking white skin and hair. Slung over a shoulder was a bag, that clinked faintly of bottles.

Working quickly, she brought them out and set them aside. The vials were small, and only two in number. They contained fluid she had drained from her own system; a calculated risk. She did not have much to spare, but it should be enough for what she had in mind. Maea pulled out the stoppers, and carefully inserted a bit of rag into each. Then she produced flint and steel, and lit the fuses with several sharp, nervous strikes.

As soon as the cloth began to smolder and smoke, she grabbed one in each hand and stood. Acting swiftly, she put all her strength behind it and threw the bombs, one after the other, through the nearest window, into the building beyond. The crash of breaking glass was too loud in her ears, but she bit back the desire to just run. She had to see if the fire would catch. She needed to know that her plan actually worked.

Maea is attempting to burn the Wren Society down!

- She has dressed herself in dark clothes and wrapped her face and hair with cloth to avoid detection. She is also wearing gloves.
- She is using two improvised molotov coctails using her own Ascended fluid and attempts to throw them through a window into the building beyond.
- She teleported herself to the Wren Society.

No one notices the dark-robed figure. With the Halenani having been destroyed the previous season, many have been in and out of the Wren Society seeking treatment. It is the screams of those patients that Maea will hear just after the tinkle of breaking glass, if it isn't muffled by the sounds of her own pain. Fuses, fire, and ascended do not mix; the skin on Maea's hands blisters and snarls as the fluid beneath her skin reacts to the fire.

It is the main room and desk that are now bathed in flame, and in behind where the patient rooms and classroom are, only one patient is capable of walking. The other three are too badly injured to move from their beds.

MAEA

It appeared that the gloves did nothing to protect her. It was a mistake she paid for dearly. The pain was shocking in a body that had not felt anything of the sort for a long time, and it quickly drove the objectives of the night out of her mind. Dropping to her knees, she gritted her teeth through the desire to scream and pushed her hands down into the sandy ground, seeking the cooler, hopefully slightly damp levels where the sun did not reach as easily.

Sucking in breaths she did not need, Maea slowly gained control over the instintual fear of fire and looked up at the building.

At least the bottles had done the trick. The house was burning. Screams from inside suggested that she might become more than an arsonist tonight, and yet that fact did nothing to move her. People died every day; they would be better off where they were going anyway. But she wanted the building to burn down, and this little blaze might not be enough. Not to mention that people would be coming soon...

Grimacing, she staggered up on her feet and withdrew slightly towards a few nearby trees. Hoping to avoid detection, while observing the fire from a safe distance.

Maea attempts to cool down her hands by pushing them down into the sandy ground, seeking cool and damp earth.
She then tried to hide by nearby trees, to observe the fire.

The ascended's fluid is volatile, calmed little by the sand. But it doesn't seem to be getting worse.

Within the sound of glass breaking and choked coughing can be heard. One of the four patients tries to stagger toward the rear exist to begin screaming for help. Halenani workers the four of them; they won't leave each other behind, but nor do they have long.

Smoke and light roar out of the Wren society as the entrance room catches alight.

The bruises from the Halenani debacle are fading, but that doesn’t mean that Raza is at full capacity after a long night of work. She uses her trident as a walking stick, weary after what seemed like the longest night at work and eager for just a bit more of those wonderful painkillers the Wren Society had given her earlier.

Her gaze lingers on the light of the Slagveld fire from afar, not realizing what it is, calling a small smile to her face - a bonfire sounds nice, if she weren’t so fucking tired.

Smoke makes her pay attention. Then a bit of extra light. Then faint screams, and Raza beings to scramble in the sand, using her trident as leverage to push her forward as her ribs protest at the sudden movement. “Hold on!” she yells, and then as she struggles to draw enough breath to yell loud enough again, she tries to rouse anyone else in the area.

“Fire! Fire! Help!”

If she can manage to get there quickly enough, she’ll go to the rear exit and try to open the door to help the patients.

Raza is still injured from her own experience at the Halenani that night and is headed towards the Wren Society for some more painkillers. She tries to rouse anyone in the area by yelling and if she can manage it -get to the rear exit of the building.

Locke is on his way to the Wren society for all of his own reasons. Kind of. He's got updates for the workers and a plate of cookies. Maeve was supposed to go with him but she wasn't home yet so he left himself. She's always busy doing brothel aligned stuff. Except the Torchline he finds isn't the one he left pre-baking. He's a lot closer to the Wren Society and he hears screaming. Locke isn't a hero but he might be a little attached to the workers. Just a little.

He doesn't see Maea, dropping the plate as he makes his way to where Raza is. She is the one he can hear the most clearly after all. This is one  of those times he wished he was wearing more than a pair of pants but oh well. Dagger in hand, he slices bits of fabric off his pants, wrapping them around his hands before putting the dagger away. "I'll try the window." Because getting in is the most important thing right now. They can worry about putting it out later. He heads over to the window and punches it up, hopefully breaking it so he can climb in.

Though it's early in the morning, Raza's calls rouse those lingering on the beach. 2 NPCs arrive, looking slightly drunk and sleepy. "Wot ya want us t'do, Raza?" They ask, looking warily at the burning building, and following the bartender around back.

Locke smashes a window, cutting his hand quite badly in the process. As he hoists himself in, he'll find himself in one of the classrooms.

Coughing and spluttering, a man waves to Raza, telling her that there are three others within who can't walk on their own.

No one seems to have noticed Maea.

MAEA

Her hands pulsed and burned. The soil had done little to ease the pain, but at least it wasn't spreading. Skulking in the shadows, Maea watched as people began to appear. She recognized Raza, but the others were all unfamiliar to her. It did not matter. What did matter was the numbers. One she might have been able to take on, even two in a pinch. But five? They were saving the people inside, and that was all well and good, but sooner or later their attention would be turned to the fire.

Gritting her teeth in frustration, Maea weighed her options. The rising sun posed another, and more immediate problem. With her hands already burned, the idea of baking under the sun was not appealing.

She made her choice. This was enough. Picturing the winding tunnels of Rae's Fingers, Maea attempted to teleport herself out. It was time to leave.

“Get the people out, but be careful, and don’t get trapped yourselves” she says briskly to the two men who come to her calls, gesturing towards the back door while she tries to assist the patient who’s emerged from the smoke. Offering him her trident to support himself, she opts to stay by the door in case she can be of any help.

Unfortunately, Raza isn’t able to keep track of Locke as he tries to find another way in. All her focus is on the three inside and the two potentially still drunk rescuers.

All in all, it doesn’t seem like a good situation. Not if they want to save all the people and stop the fire - and look, she ain’t no hero. She ain’t gonna die tonight. Trying to access the power she once used during the Sea Panther fight, Raza inhales, coughs, and then calls out into the night, “We could use a little help right now, please!”

the Voice
"Is nothing off limits?" Truly, the Voice sounds deeply displeased as her voice projects from somewhere above. Oh, she very well knows who the culprit of this deed is, though not why. That is for another time. For now, there is a fire to put out.

Electricity dampens the flames like a blanket, suffocating the heat with blue snarls of power. Though there is significant fire damage to the front room, the patient rooms have only minor smoke damage.

Raza's channelling is successful! The Voice puts out the fire.

The NPCs stop, stunned, as electricity envelopes the fire. "Uhh..do...y'kay." Confused, but good at taking orders the NPCs trudge inside. There doesn't seem to be any present danger so they don't hustle the way they might have before the Voice arrived to save the day (or Raza, rather). "Common' doves. Prolly' not a gud idear to stay here even if the fires'gone."

The NPCs help two of the patients out, leaving Raza with one, and one for Locke.

The Wren Society is no longer on fire.

He makes it through the window but not without glass lodged into his hands. So much for the fabric helping. He presses his hands against his stomach, hoping to stop the bleeding as he tries to find the people in the other rooms. And then suddenly there's no fire, only smoke and a booming voice. Well, that seems fine. Right? He'll ask about it when he gets outside.

He gathers up the last person, tucking his arm around them and trying not to get blood on them. He feels a little silly for rushing in like that but it's not like he could've predicted a god showing up. He is going to have to tell Nate about it though.

As Locke helps the last patient out of the building, a small crowd gathers around the society. Questions of "who the fuck would attack'a'hospital" are murmured in unhappy whispers.

There are no clues as to who has done this.

If only there was someone with a certain item who could detect the movement of individuals...hmm...

Congratulations! The fire has been stopped thanks to Raza's channeling. She and Locke have successfully gotten everyone out of the building, and the Wren Society has taken only partial damage.

This will only require a single thread, dedicated to fixing the entrance room, in order to restore the building to its former state.

Congratulations!

Feel free to make break-off threads if you want to continue in the aftermath!
