From being an Abandoned who had rarely left the Hollowed Grounds, to embracing the call of adventure, to dying and being reborn first as an Ascended and then as an Ancient, Maea has gone through quite the amount of changes in her life. One thing remains common, though, in her attempts to find out just where she belongs; she’s always had a craving for knowledge which has brought her to so many places and to meet so many people here in Caido. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for her!

What do you get when you cross a fleeing LongNight monster with a portal?
It's okay - I won't make you guess.
You get a nightmare that slumbers for four seasons, until the endless night falls once more, until it is free to roam, to seek out hot blood and flesh and a new city to terrorise.
But the Voice got rid of the monsters from the Grounds! I hear you cry. More on that later.
But these are not the Hollowed Grounds, my sweets, and the creature that clings to the side of the Palace, all folded wings and steel teeth, has escaped its supposed fate.
And now in the pitch black night, it starts with the Council Hall.
Guards fall, but they do not fall silently. Their blood looks black on the shadowed ground, and the creature begins to feast.

It's Lilly that hears it first. The wolf, now fully grown, leaps to her feet. Through their bond she jolts Sah awake. The rush of concern, danger, and intruders has the Abandoned rolling out of bed and on his feet within a heartbeat. Grabbing his weapons and clothing, the Outlander is ready in mere minutes.
Grabbing and lighting a torch, he has to push Lilly's nose back to close the door behind him. The wolf desperately wants to follow and protect her bonded, but Sah won't risk her. "Stay put pup. Guard the house."
Stepping outside, he scans the area, torch in one hand and sword in another.
Sah has all of his items in his bio and a lit torch in hand. He already has his sword drawn and ready to go. He's left Lilly at home.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me."
The hissed words are accompanied by a fumbling noise of general putting on clothes, and when Neron does exit towards the Council Hall, his shirt is still only half buttoned and his scarf is loose about his neck.
It would be a lie to say his stomach doesn't all but drop out and into the snow when his sharp senses pick up on an old, buried trauma. He remembers last year. He remembers death breathing down the back of his neck.
Looks like it's come back to say hello.
"Morgan, try to keep out of its sight," he hisses, before promptly engaging his cloaking upgrade.
Neron arrives, unimpressed and half dressed, and quickly engages his cloaking upgrade.
He brings no extra items - only what's in his profile.

She’d thought this would be the first LongNight she had in this place where she wasn’t forced to deal with any sort of monsters that weren’t the ones running around in her head. She’s wrong, though, as something starts to feel off and she peeks out the window, spying a terrible creature so reminiscent of last year in the pure darkness. So of course she can’t just leave it.
A variety of curses leave her lips as she slips out the door, grabbing everything she thinks she might need – throwing knives, a bow, set of arrows, and her upgrades – before she slips out the door and jogs toward the commotion. There’s someone she only vaguely recognizes from meetings and gatherings and passing by them in the Citadel, but despite not knowing him (Sah) well, she does pause by him with her gear at the ready. She’s careful to stay away from his torch as she activates her armor upgrade, and turns her head back toward the creature. “It looks like one of the Grounds monsters has come to say hello.” She informs Sah with a deepset frown. “Thought we got rid of them all.” This is more quietly muttered, angry at herself or everything else, it was hard to say.
Either way, she readies herself – prepping the bow just in case it started to move.
Kiada activates her armor upgrade:

She also brings throwing knives, a bow and arrow, and her other upgrade!

The trio converges on the bloody sight, and if only this were like the namesake of this KQ, where the creature is completely preoccupied by its feast. Alas, as they arrive it rips itself away from the guard's body, screeching into the darkness and launching at the nearest target, which just so happens to be Sah.
It's a brief struggle, but unfortunately the Abandoned is unable to fend off the monster, and it clamps its steel jaws around Sah's shoulder with the intention of continuing its feast.

It escalates. Quickly.
Neron doesn't even realise that Morgan isn't present, that he's left her snoozing off their escapades in her rooms in the Palace. And he won't get a chance to either, because no sooner has he engaged his upgrade when the LongNight monster is on Sah, and he has to tear into action.
"Kiada - we need to hit it hard and fast," he hisses as he brushes past his fellow Ascended, turning on the creature to do just that.
And so it's with the most subtle and insidious of his magical gifts that he reaches out with his Life Drain to attempt to drag the energy out of the monster.
Neron keeps his Cloaking Upgrade up and uses his Life Drain magic!
Type: Dark

She isn’t hugely prepared for a fight like this, but as the creature dives toward Sah and Neron’s voice meets her, she immediately moves into motion. “Yeah we do.” She agrees, gritting her teeth and launching herself toward the creature that’s attached to Sah. She activates her speed upgrade hoping to boost herself closer as she grabs one of the throwing knives from her belt.
The second she’s close enough, she lashes out with the knife, hoping to sink it in somewhere deep, in a spot that’s more tender than the rest of the steel armor of the creature. Perhaps the monster’s neck or where one of the plates folds. Either way, she hopes and prays it hits.
Kiada activates her speed upgrade to get close while she lashes out with her throwing knife hoping to sink it somewhere deep in a joint and keeps her armor upgrade activated!

Sah grits his teeth against the pain and snarls at the creature, "You little shit". It's not the most painful thing he's experienced, but it's probably the worst injury he's sustained since coming to Caido. One thing's for sure, he needs to get this thing off of him and create some distance.
And so, thoroughly peeved and determined to be released from the beast, he activates his lightning. Sah first creates a current of lightning over his skin, hoping to shock the monster. At the same time though, he attempts to send an electrified punch straight at the monster's face. For insurance of course. And because he's pissed. If he breaks free he'll sprint over to join the others.
Sah attempts to break free. He creates a current of lighting around his body (including the bitten shoulder) and tries to send a lighting filled punch to the monster's face. If he breaks free, he'll attempt to put some distance and move to be beside the others.
Lightning manipulation: Can create and control Lightning. Must be within a 30ft radius.

How fortuitous that there are two Ascended in the party, and that the blanket of darkness all around allows them to move so quickly. Neron flickers into visibility briefly, though it's like trying to look at him through television static, and the attack he lances looks like nothing at all. Still, as the Life Drain strikes - and it does strike - the monster shrieks and shudders; a noise which will gurgle disgustingly against Sah's shoulder.
Then in comes Kiada, like a bolt of black silk in the shadows, and her blade lances out, scrapes, connects, and slips between two armoured plates to send a jet of deep, dark blood up into the air.
Alas, Sah is not so lucky with his hit, but one can hardly blame him given the situation. Shrouded in lightning as the Abandoned is, the monster skitters back and away from him, steel teeth drenched red. With its maw open wide, it screams a laugh - and throws Sah's own lightning back at him.
Luckily he gets out of the way in time, but a wall somewhere behind him crumbles from the strike. And then the creature's wings fan open wide, and it's up, up, and vanished into the sky.

It absolutely could have been worse.
Neron skids back as the creature detaches itself from Sah, his steel blue eyes wide and seeming all the lighter for the electricity that suddenly rips through the air.
With the crackle of lightning still echoing in his ears and a broken wall somewhere to the Abandoned's left, the Hailstorm glares up at the sky as the monster takes flight, slipping into the blackness as if it is part of it.
"We need to be ready - it could dive for us," he says, already dragging up snow and ice with his Water Manipulation to try and create a half dome shield for them to hide behind.
"We need to tell people to stay inside. Did you see that? It used your lightning," he tells Sah.
Neron creates an ice shield to hide behind, keeping his upgrade active.

She sound the creature makes when Neron does… Whatever it is Neron does, is just another sound that haunts her in the dark. But she surges forward, her throwing knife sinking deep in between the plates of steel armor, and a dark inky black erupts from where she’s punctured through. She slips back, watching as it pulls away, as it shoots lightning back and she’s already slightly moving to block it from Sah as it misses and hits the wall behind them.
“Come on!” She says, reaching for Sah, aiming to bring him with her into the protective dome Neron’s created as she lifts the crossbow to the sky, scanning the dark for anything to shoot an arrow toward. As for broadcasting to tell people to stay inside, she can’t do much without giving away their entire position and it’s something she thinks on while she thinks about Sah’s magic. “I think it didn’t like the lightning back at it.” She pauses, continuing to scan. “I don’t have anything stored, but if you’re in a sharing mood we can try and make this quick.” She pauses from her scanning to cast a glance back toward Sah, before she focuses on the sky again, prepared to shoot the second she sees movement.
Kiada reaches for Sah and pulls him into Neron’s shield and scans the sky with her crossbow prepared to shoot if she sees movement! She also roundaboutly asks Sah about sharing his magic with her!

Sah grabs Kiada's outreached hand ducks behind the shield. The Outlander keeps his eyes on their surroundings, sword ready to slash anything that comes from above or some other direction. His pride is stinging a bit but more so he's furious that the creature had the gall to use his own lightning against him.
Kiada's request gets a nod, "Do it, you both can. I have telekinesis and lightning." There's no hesitation in his offer, and while he could offer up his wrist, he's got the torch and his sword. Given the situation he's not letting go of either. He smirks with cynical amusement, gesturing to his shoulder, "I'm not using this anyway." While this is going on, Sah never takes his eyes off their surroundings. Anything that gets close will receive an attempted slash or a parry.
Sah grabs Kiada's offered hand and goes to move behind the shield. He's got his sword ready and eyes on their surroundings, ready to slash or parry anything that comes at him. Kiada's roundabout request gets immediate consent and he tells Neron he can do the same if he wishes.

The monster is in no mood to waste time, apparently, because the party barely has time to gather beneath Neron's shield when it strikes. And it's a very good thing that the Hailstorm thought to throw up said shield, because it is the only thing that prevents the creature from squashing Sah as it torpedoes down.
As it stands, the ice shatters and splinters and reduces the shield to nothing, giving the monster the time and distraction it needs to round on its latest victim, which just happens to be Neron.
And it's too fast for even the Ascended to dodge, and the Hailstorm will find himself pinned beneath armoured plates and large wings, with steel jaws locked about his throat.

Oh, wow. Fuck this.
Despite keeping his upgrade engaged, not only does the monster spear straight through his very sexy ice shield - it goes to chomp on him right after too.
If Neron drew breath he'd have been winded, so at least there's no pain to worry about as he's trapped beneath the creature and bitten. Indeed, it only really serves to piss him off.
"Not fucking today," he growls, drawing deep within himself for his favourite magic and letting ice splinter out of him, hoping to impale the monster and shred its wings.
Neron aims for the monster's wings with his Water Manipulation magic!
