DEIMOS
And after ventures, after explorations, after tides of other things potentially haphazard, there was a slow, residual return to whatever their settled earth had become.

He didn’t want to call it home. That name was reserved for mountains pressed into his blood and rising beneath his soul, for frozen bones and stern, dominating summits. And he could pretend for multitudes that it could’ve embodied it for a time, these makeshift shelters, but they both knew better. Not with Noah gone back and forth, not with the ebb and flow of other occurrences already shaping and whittling away at the notions, calls to arms, to motions brewing on the horizon.

But for a time he didn’t have to wallow or sink into the bitterness. Neither of them had to.

So Deimos stood at the door of his own cabin, arms folded, gaze upon the bed of soil unused and disregarded up until this moment. A calculating air had already progressed, contorting without mercy in the breadth of his mind – though without barrages or sieges, without blades and armaments. His voice eventually rang out towards Cordelia, head tilting as he surveyed, examined, and scrutinized the possibilities. “What do you think about a garden?” Jutting his chin and jaw forward towards the open expanse; awaiting her approval or dismay.

Cordelia

They were back ‘home’ again. As much of a home as it could be considering what they’d left behind. Considering who wasn’t back here with them. Still, it was home enough. Until they could return to Halo. Cordelia drew close to him, a basket full of freshly washed clothes on her hip, still dripping from the stream she washed them in. The Attuned slowed, setting the basket down and beginning to hang them up on the line between two trees to dry, a soft hum pushing past her lips. Amber eyes follow the line of his gaze, head tilting in consideration, a breeze tousling her loose curls. ”A garden would be nice. Could plant some vegetables and flowers.” Noah likes green.

The thought crosses her mind before she can help it and a faint flush rises on her cheeks. ”What were you thinking of growing?” Surely the Sword had some kind of idea if he was mentioning it in the first place.

He waited for her response, arms still folded over his chest, considering and weighing out the options. Missing the flush on her cheeks, for it would’ve certainly earned a comment just to be juvenile and mischievous, he instead continued staring at the patch of soil, envisioning how to best utilize it. “Vegetables. Herbs, mostly. Enough to sustain ourselves.” Much like the greenhouse in Halo – though with the better climate, it’d be able to remain without a protective dome. And the man had no need for flowers.

The Sword marched diligently towards the spot, and began turning over the soil with his Earth incantations, mind wheedling over the complexities, taking hold of the ground, measuring out the expanse without lifting a finger.

Mostly because he was going to be taunting and teasing and wanted to be able to free up some proportions just to be devilish. He tilted his head back in her direction, the airs of a smirk beginning to settle around in a haphazard, boyish grin, perhaps the only warning she’d receive, while he toiled and worked. “So, you and Noah.”

Cordelia

Cordelia bent down to pick up another shirt from the basket, realizing this one to be Noah's and a faint smile curled on her lips, unaware of the teasing she was inviting upon herself. The Attuned couldn't have even contained the giddiness that trickles along the bond if she wanted to at the thought of the newly appointed demigod. Her nod was instant at his suggestions, "A good idea. I think it would be a good start. The flowers would be good for attracting pollinators, though." She offered, thinking he might not have considered that, but she'd been thinking about trying to locate a small hive and having a source of honey was always welcome when such delicacies we're scarce.

She glanced his way just in time to catch his smirk, causing a dark brown to arch, lips parting to ask what he was grinning about. He beat her to it, airing his question that was more like a statement, but closest to an observation. Of course the Sword had noticed. It would have been naive to think he hadn't. Her cheeks heat further and she tried for nonchalance, but she was an open book to him given their shared link. "Yeah... It's new. He, uhm, kissed me when we were in Torchline. After the three of us met up again."

If her voice took on a dreamy quality to it she wouldn't admit. No, not even as her lips curl and she recalled that breath stealing kiss, the words he pressed into her skin as he made his declaration.

DEIMOS
While Cordelia gave him ample ammunition and consideration for future taunting, if not an eyeroll from a distance, the Sword occupied himself with his task. Brows furrowed in concentration, the soil continued loosening, churning over from the previously frozen season; exposed into the air as darker, richer, proportions. “If you want,” he shrugged at the notion of flowers; gone were his days of planting them beside a bakery. From there, Deimos brought his hand over a portion of the loam, beginning to needle and nestle seeds within, Earth machinations stirred once more – broadening, branching, brambling in the form of tiny stems and leaves, barely cutting over the surface. It’d take a few more moments for the roots to stretch downward.

Which gave him some time to be irritating and teasing; not even bothering to hide his mischief. He turned his head back to survey Cordelia’s reaction – uttering a quiet laugh at the distinct blush, and then the low rumble started again when he’d pinpointed with accuracy and precision. Though he hadn’t expected her to readily admit it, she seemed more the type to squirm and hide from the observation or play it off as nonexistent, the cheeky smile remained. If not a boyish wrinkle to his nose for amusement’s sake. “Oh?” The snicker deepened; pondering over the multitudes of areas he could traverse and annoy. “Well. Congratulations. Both of you deserve some happiness.” Especially with everything else looming on the horizon; at least they could snag, take it, run with it.

Then he laughed again, deliberately poking at threads and seeing where he could unravel and snag. “I thought you would be the one to initiate it.” A pause, the grin growing wider. “Especially with all the staring.”

Cordelia

Deimos might not be making such a life for himself anymore, but Cordelia was just now beginning the notions of one with Noah. The thoughts came unbidden. A small cottage in the woods, flowers blooming along the front window, ivy growing up the walls in a swath of green. A fire crackling in the hearth, dinner cooking on the stove, and their latest kill roasting away. It was a simple life. A good life. One that she could see them settling into with ease despite the war looming above them like a axe waiting to drop.

Of course these thoughts are quickly banished by Deimos's teasing. Her cheeks are more than a little pink and she shyly ducked her head as she finishes hanging up the clothes. Cordelia huffed at his accusation, "I did not stare." If she did, she wasn't going to readily admit it. No thank you. Not when he seemed utterly intent on teasing her relentlessly. Even when he sprinkled in the congratulations in between. "And he only kissed me after I-" She caught herself in the middle of her confession, lips pressing together firmly, but the Attuned cleared her throat and pressed on anyway. "I straddled his lap and told him I would go with him wherever he was called."

DEIMOS
The first statement, absolute denial, had him barking a round of laughter. As it echoed and bounded against their wooden houses and shelters, reverberating in its devilish notions, he gave another snort too. “Yes, you most certainly did.” If it sounded like some ignited, initiated sibling squabbles, the Sword wouldn't contradict it.  Deimos made sure to turn his head fully in her direction, so she’d be able to see the impression he was going to enact. “This was you, watching him leave to get snow moss.” As if the man was going off to war – and while they would be eventually, it certainly wasn’t now – and the Sword made a juvenile pretense of sad, longing eyes gazing off in the distance.

Before rounding his piercing gaze back onto her, full of mischief and impishness, at her second admission. Brows raised for a half a moment, he clicked his tongue against the back of his teeth, and didn’t stifle the chuckles then either. It’d been a long time since he’d been this amused. “Knew it.” Smug for a moment, he only twisted his eyes down to the ground to see if the roots had taken hold of the few vegetables already stirring from the loam. When he seemed satisfied with their arrangement and growth, he shrugged his shoulders, stepping back from his crouch and returning to his full height. “All right. We can go find some flowers.” It might be easier then concocting them from his mind, from the creations stirred and stored there long ago.

Cordelia

Deimos didn’t falter in his teasing. If anything he dug in further. Cordelia felt her cheeks heat and she huffed, hanging up one of his articles of clothing with more force than necessary, ”I did not look like that, Deimos. You’re being ridiculous.” Did a bit of defensiveness creep into her voice? Perhaps. Did she care? Absolutely not! The Attuned was going to deny any such pretenses of longing looks or googly eyes towards Noah even if it was absolutely true. She would take it to her grave.

A laugh pushed past her lips, bright and sudden at his proclamation, shaking her head at his antics as she moved over to join him. ”For being a rather physical being, Noah is reserved in many different ways.” The hunter mused, trailing after Deimos into the woods, eyes peeled for any signs of freshly blooming flowers, eager to bring some color back to their homes.

Her reaction only caused another bout of laughter, low rumbles of amusement and devilry pouring into the heights of the trees, or scattering amongst the long, wild grass. He shook his head as Belial followed alongside, sweeping low around some branches. “Did too,” by way of very childish endeavors, like one might purposefully argue with a relative, merely to get a rise out of them.

And if the peryton’s answering, pervading chirps sounded distinctly like similar chords, then so be it.

He arched his brow but wasn’t about to ask what Cordelia meant – quite frankly, he probably didn’t want to – before wandering further into the angles and platitudes of the rolling hills. From there, the Sword presided in less distracted measures, and more with his scrutinizing eyes upon the ground once more, snagging at any particular blends and hues. There were quite a few ahead, scattered in crimson, ivory, and golden portions, and while he didn’t know the names of the plants, perhaps Cordelia would. Jutting his jaw towards their sanction, he inquired. “What about those?”

Cordelia

The Attuned was tempted to argue again, but it would only add fuel to the fire. Besides, there were better ways to get him to drop that specific line of conversation. It was easy to say something so offhandedly, knowing that Deimos wouldn't be interested in the intricate details of her and Noah's relationship. She imagined it was much like hearing about one's siblings relations with their significant other. Cordelia knew that Deimos was happy for them. Otherwise he wouldn't tease her so much. So easily. This was typical of him and something that she'd come to expect. Truthfully, the hunter would rather miss it if he didn't do it.

With a smirk and a snort of laughter at his clear disinterest in any further details, Cordelia brushed past him, bumping into his shoulder as she did so in a playful push. It wasn't until he pointed out some flowers that she skipped ahead, kneeling down to more closely examine them. Her brows drew together, a finger reaching out to brush carefully along the petals. "Tulips." The Attuned murmured, a smile curling on her lips as she looked back at Deimos, nodding.

"These are good. I'm pretty sure they grow in solid colors too, but these are mixed. That's rather interesting, no?" Anything green and lush and growing was of interest to her. It wasn't often that she was surrounded by this kind of life.

DEIMOS
Had he pushed back at the motion, Cordelia might have been knocked askew; so the Sword took the hit as his monolithic figure would allow, rolling his eyes as she strolled by. His gaze continued to consider the grounds they walked upon – the sprawling fields, unlike the endless varnish of snow and ice, given way to the tides and vestiges of spring. Belial tromped ahead, running around Cordelia in various circles as she examined the flowers, picking at a few leaves before making a face and dropping them – still carnivorous to a fault.

At her voice and inspection though, the soldier tilted his head. He nearly asked if the petals and hues had a purpose, but then remembered not everything had to encompass a dual design. They could be ornamental, provide for bees, and be enough. He closed his mouth around the inquiry, solidifying a nod, he supposed, at the indication of colors and mixtures. “They will work,” and since tulips didn’t haunt him in the way other flowers did, he snagged at his magic, pulling them upright, from the ground, until they were bundled tightly in the air, roots and all. A way to replant them without haphazard wakes. “Do you want any others?”

Cordelia

He took the nudge without truly budging, but Cordelia expected as much and took what little she could get from the notion anyway. A laugh worked its way from her chest at Belial's antics, reaching out to pat him on the nose as he spat out the leaves, deciding he wasn't at all interested in what they had to offer. Not that she really blamed him. She much preferred meat herself. The huntress could feel the curiosity coming from Deimos, but no question followed. Instead she mused out loud, "I think this happens when two different color tulips cross pollinate. I imagine it's simply another way to attract bees and the like." She straightened up as he pulled them from the earth with somehow delicate enough measures to keep them fully intact.

Cordelia hummed, eyes scanning around for anything else that might catch her interest. There was foxglove growing up ahead and honeysuckle climbing a nearby tree. Both good for different things. "Perhaps a bit of those as well?" She motioned to the purple plant ahead and the towering vine, turning back to him with an arched brow as she awaited his input.

At her explanation, the Sword arched his brow once more, granting nothing but a noncommittal rumble of agreement and accord, collecting and absorbing the information. “Did you want bees too?” He imagined some semblance of a hive – honey could always be applied in ample varieties – and where it was Flowerbirth, the melodic ones would be out and about. That’d be entirely different venue of snagging, and certainly not as simple as the way they were plucking flowers now.

Then his eyes went to the other mentioned flora; following the traces of honeysuckle and foxglove. “All right,” by way of accordance, applying the same tactics as he’d done to the previous buds and blossoms. The vines were a little trickier, as they had to unravel piece by piece and coil by coil, but by the end of it roots dangled, and there was a neat bundle of all the designations together, floating along the air. “Will that be enough?”

Cordelia

"Not now, but maybe one day." If they were to make that a more permanent home, something they were steadily working towards, but it still wasn't official. They were settled there for now, but she knew that they wanted to return to Halo. Cordelia grew quiet, not wanting to distract him as he worked to uncoil the vines from around the tree, getting them coiled into a neat bunch so he could plant them the side of her cabin. "That's perfect."

The two of them headed back towards their homes, Cordelia trailing along beside him, eyes shifting this way and that to follow Belial as he trotted ahead of them. As they approached the cabins once more Cordelia turned to face Deimos once more, "I'd like if we could plant the honeysuckle near the cabin so it can grow up the wall."
