Harper

Raza's reaction garners a hearty laugh from Harper, cheeks pinking boyishly at her astonishment. "Don't stroke my ego now Raz," he teases with a wink. Cobbled together as the group may be, Harper cares for each of them, and that buoyancy is what keeps him going throughout his shift. Adam's assistance down below is an additional defense that keeps them well-guarded as the hours slip by and he trades out with Ray and so on and so forth.

By time dawn arrives and Adam and the last on shift awaken them, they're ready for the last leg of the trip. Harper flits around making sure everyone has eaten and drank their fill in preparation for the final stretch. "Alright lovely gents and dashing ladies, we're almost there. One last push!" Endless energy coming to the fore in hopes of rustling up some cheer. Swinging up onto his horse, Harper takes point down the poor excuse for a trail they have to guide them.

The Oerwoud is far more welcoming an environment - at first. Easier to traverse, far less muddy and disgusting, and the sun is warm for the humans but well-dappled for Adam's sake. The creatures on the other hand are far more insisted. Humid as it is, there's a multitude of flies, and their stinging peskiness soon makes the entire herd - unicorn and horse alike - disgruntled and irritated. Snapping tails and pinned ears are the start, and then the shoving and inevitable slow-down as they kick at their bellies and try to roll in mud (heedless of their riders, in search of relief) has Harper calling back down the line for ideas. "Any thoughts on how to keep the bugs off? Should we let them roll?" But even his own suggestion comes out tentative, unwilling to risk losing any of the unicorns.

tough enough to drown it away

"Ugh." Theo slapped at the bugs that landed on him, grimacing. He'd discovered one point in Halo's favor, at least: very few biting or stinging insects made their home on the ice. Even after over a year in Torchline, he wasn't accustomed to them.

"Let the unicorns roll," Theo suggested. "But let's stay on our horses."

He didn't feel like getting down and then all the way back up. Besides, they'd have to take all the tack off, and then clean the horses up, or ride them muddy -- Theo didn't know enough about horses to have any idea whether that was feasible, but it all sounded like way too much work to him. The unicorns, though, bore no riders, so as far as Theo was concerned, they could do whatever they wanted.

Theo suggests that the unicorns can roll, but the riders should stay on their horses.
