From being an Abandoned who had rarely left the Hollowed Grounds, to embracing the call of adventure, to dying and being reborn first as an Ascended and then as an Ancient, Maea has gone through quite the amount of changes in her life. One thing remains common, though, in her attempts to find out just where she belongs; she’s always had a craving for knowledge which has brought her to so many places and to meet so many people here in Caido. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for her!

On the off chance that the Minokawa is able to dodge the starbolts, Wessex will direct it to fire again on Ronin from on high. But we all know that’s unlikely to happen. So if she has that time, in a fit of goddess-only-knows what kind of inspiration, Wessex will make herself look like Safrin.

And now that Ronin’s down on the ground again, Wessex will have another go at him. She quickly tries to judge an appropriate distance in case he flares his wings up again, while getting as close to him as possible. At least this time she doesn’t really need to aim. Instead of lasers, she tries to hit him with a biopulse, because a pounding heart and disorientation are so much fun and variety is the spice of life, or so they say.

If the Minokawa manages to dodge the starbolts, she'll direct it to fire on Ronin again. If it's gone, she'll use her Anyone magic to make herself look like Safrin and then attack with a biopulse.

Ronin falls from the sky, demonstrating a more or less accurate depiction of stop, drop and roll. The only thing? He's still holding that damn upgrade, and no amount of rolling will put out the fact that he is the cause of his own flames.. So what happens?
Well, exactly what anyone might expect. The upgrade explodes. Someone remember this moment so that Nate can laugh about it later.
Ronin 's starbolts do manage to slice through Wessex's faux-bird, dismissing it, which might be for the best, as it leaves Ronin all eyes for what the Wraith has in store. With a furious stare from the eyes of Ronin's goddess herself, Wessex's biopulse pulls energy from Ronin's bones. The Huntsman will be left disoriented and weak.
Nate's optical upgrade has exploded due to proximity to fire for 2 posts.

Huh. Every day's a school day. And whilst the learning curve for Ronin is steep (exposing upgrades to fire and heat makes them explode, who knew?) he does nonetheless learn from this experience. The scars on his hand will be a reminder, if nothing else. Before he can gather his wits to either celebrate the minokawa fucking off or get his feet beneath him, the biopulse hits in full force, wicking away energy that, to be frank, was rapidly starting to tank anyway.
But when he gazes up at a fanged Safrin, he can't help himself; a laugh bubbles from his lips. "Keep tryin'," he suggests to Wessex. "She's a lot better lookin' than that." It takes every ounce of willpower he has to concentrate, but he dredges forth his astral projection somewhere outside the burning Tower behind Wessex, just in case.
"So what now?" he slurs. "You gonna sink your fangs in me wearin' Safrin's face? Leave another scar? Doesn't matter what you do tonight. Edy's dead, Nate's down, and you did shit all about it. You lose. Comin' here blamin' the Order because you suck at bein' a decent leader. Get fucked."
Ronin sasses and summons his astral projection behind Wessex some distance away (outside the burning Tower). He's still on fire in a partial shift.

Phoenix Armour | Encased within an invisible pendant, when Ronin shifts or partially shifts into a phoenix, the pendant will activate. Dark fire-proof leather will replace his clothing, inlaid with golden strands of starlight that perfectly fits his body and is extremely easy to move in. In the dark it will appear nearly black, while in the light it will have a golden sheen to it. Constellations of the Warrior shine on the front and back.
Magic: Astral Projection | Ronin can project a version of himself into another location. He can see, hear and speak in this space, and he can affect it physically, including combat situations. If the astral projection is damaged, it can no longer physically affect the space. He may only project as far as the sub-boards adjacent to his physical location - and only if he has previously visited the board.

It’s true, she can’t replicate whatever magical aura and sparkly effects the Goddess may have, but Wessex doesn’t take it personally. Sparkly effects are for those who are easily fooled and that would be a waste of time and energy.
So what now? Staying where she is, Wessex fires another biopulse at Ronin in an effort to keep his head all slurry and fuzzy and not thinking straight. And then she decides that, yes, some more laser burns will suit her just fine for that leader comment, aiming for the one place he isn’t covered in leather armor - his face.
When she does finally open her mouth to retort, it won't be Safrin's voice that comes out of her image, but the Wraith's. “Better to suck at bein’ a leader than being a parent. My family knew the risks and died of their own free will. Yours died because you’re incompetent. Poor… Vvv… Vanya, was it?” It seems so long ago, but in her head time is divided into pre-Outlanders and post-Outlanders and she remembers the first of the Outlander clusterfuck LongNights well, if only because it was so different. “Poor Aoife. Seren has Safrin. Your son has Remi. She only had you.”

Ronin yells, the Tower continues to smoulder from within. As Wessex biopulses, Ronin will continue to feel the effects but his nervous system is able to fight off the worst of it (he managed to roll better), though he certainly will feel the hot sweep of lasers across his face, but manages to close his eyes before the light can blind and disorient them.
As for all the emotional wounds? Ya'll keep track of that yourselves.

It's funny, how the worst hits aren't the physical ones. As soon as he feels the lash of lasers against his cheek, Ronin drags his protesting body through the neat little switcheroo he has, which leaves him partially shifted and swathed in smouldering phoenix fire before the burning Tower (and behind Wessex). It's gone now, the Tower. If not now, then soon. There's no saving it, he knows that much.
But anyway, back to the 10 psychic damage he just took from Wessex's cutting words. In previous years he'd have already been on her, claws and wings and teeth and everything else besides. But (and it's sad to admit it), this isn't the first time his dead daughter has been used to torment him. Wessex was there, actually, for the worst of his Longnights when that happened.
So although his lips do twitch, although starbolts do spark around him, he flings them - barely - towards a building over her shoulder instead of at her head like he wants to. Should the rubble do some damage, that's purely coincidental. "I used to think you were human in there, at least a little," he growls.

As a second Ronin flings starbolts past her head (oops, didn't notice that one), she whirls around and a growl of frustration rips through her. Cat-and-mouse, is it? Slowly, slowly, until one of them wears down the other? Fine. Firing off another laser blast towards his face, the Wraith laughs in return. “Oh, get off your high horse. You chose Team Genocide. What kind of monster thinks that’s okay?”
Summoning a Kitsune, the Wraith reaches for her own monstrous side - Safrin and Aoife had no effect on him, and that’s a damn shame, because she would much rather end this the physical way. If there’s time, she’ll direct the Kitsune to wrap both Ronins in the illusion of a sensory deprivation bubble. Hear nothing. See nothing. Smell nothing. Surrounded by... nothing.
Gods, she misses her chakram.

key quest
Ronin damages more of Stormbreak as Wessex shoots more lasers. Able to dodge out of their way, bits of rubble begin to char and heat as lasers drag across them. Is that..teamwork? Maybe?
Then all will grow dark and still and silent. For Ronin anyway. Both versions of him.

Shifting into his pheonix Ronin flies in the most "up" direction he can think of to evade the illusion while Wessex drops the tactic and instead just shoots Ronin with her Angry Eyes ™. Flying around the Tower to try and draw the flames up into a Tornado, Ronin uses his phoenix tears to heal himself as Wessex quickly teleports and then shifts at the top of the Tower. Continuing to cry (I mean, heal), Wesesx tries to kick some debris from the Tower at Ronin before absolutely everything goes sideways and becomes covered in flame.
The Tower falls, belching out glass and stone and fire. Anyone who might have been left inside will find themselves quickly carried off to Mort's realm. As for Nate? Well, he's now buried under a building's worth of rubble.
Partially shifting Ronin explodes, healing himself by half as much as the damage which Wessex splashes back at him. Teleporting to the ground, Wessex tries to find somewhere to hide amongst the FIRE. Drinking from his cup of Ghilio water the Huntsman scours the ground for Wessex. If there was a flash of the demigod before she shifted and cloaked herself in kitsune illusions Ronin isn't able to see it.
