The mermanta swam carefully through the undersea market, conscious as always of the wide wings that spread from just below his shoulders and how much space he took up. At least it was on a mostly horizontal plane, and it was easy for other merfolk to pass over and under him on their own errands.

Hadama had steely hair and dark brown skin on his human half, while the manta wings along his back and the tail that tapered to a slender, whip-like point were so dark as to be almost black. Scars from forge and undersea fauna marked his hide in several places, but they had been tattooed over in a gleaming golden yellow ink that caught the light and glimmered when he moved. Bright emerald eyes took in his surroundings, matching the emerald earring in his left ear, as the several other piercings of gold, silver, and copper complimented the colors of his tattoos, hair, and skin.

The bag he carried clinked with the unmistakable sound of metal as he approached one of the shops built into a lacy confection of blue coral pillars. His wings shifted back into his torso and he wriggled between two pillars on the strength of his flukeless tail instead, slipping within and nodding to the blue-haired parrotfish mermaid tending the driftwood counter.

The bag he offered contained several pieces of metalwork and jewelry, galvanized or plated in zinc, copper, and bronze, which the mermaid took out and began to polish while Hadama swam slowly around the store, taking note of which pieces from the family forge - hidden well outside the city - had sold, and which remained untouched.

It was once in a season that Blik would visit the marvel of his people, the Underwater City, to stock up on goods he could not forage from the sea bed. Mostly, though, it meant that he spent hours between different shops eyeing all the shiny things that they sold. He had plenty of edible plants with him to trade, as well as, a wide selection of cured meats, as hunting was easier for the venomous octopus than most.

The young mermaid had already spent quite a few hours in the city when he finally visited one of his favorite blacksmith shops. Ever since he visited the place for the first time, now, 2 years ago, he had come here every season either just to window shop or actually get something. Last season he got a beautiful knife for filleting, as well as, another mirror for the cave (Appearantly, the previous 12 looked lonely).

Blik swam in the building with a large bag of stuff, waving to the mermaid behind the counter with the widest of smiles.

"Blik! You're late this season!" Kana smiled at him, then waved towards Hadama. "Hey, I've got to finish getting the new batch ready to go out, but 'Dama here can show you anything you're interested in! He's one of the makers, you know!" Metalwork was an uncommon underwater practice, to say the least; it tended to run in rare families that closely guarded their secrets and passed them down through generations.

She turned away to go back to work, while Hadama watched the interaction, a little bemused. But when he was introduced he inclined his head courteously to the octopus. "I am Hadama. A pleasure to meet you... Blik? Are you looking for something specific today?"
