Ophelia
With a few landshark teeth and nothing more to their name in the wake of the hunt, Ophelia finds that vengeance tastes hollow. They’d not retrieved Bastien’s body, and they had no need for the meat or hide of the landshark - food and leathers are unnecessary, as their Goddess has made them. Pensive and wrong-footed, the ghost floats on quiet feet into the Atheneum without consciously finding reason to do so. Maybe it’s the fact that Sam, the person who brought them for their Ascension, is now dead. Maybe it’s the brush with their own mortality. Somehow they know The Voice can quiet the noise in their head and quell the squall of concerns.
That doesn’t mean they don’t bring a gift, though it is one already on their person. A book. The one Ophelia and Mabel had discussed making in the wake of tearing apart the sacrilegious texts in the grand library, ripping out pages that vilified The Voice. It is written in their own tentative, unlearned hand, and the pages are filled with doodles in the margins of electric sparks and circuitry. It’s a small thing, unbefitting the library itself, but it will do as a gift.
Folding down into a graceful cross-legged pose, Ophelia’s long fingers trace the papers idly. “Goddess, are you here?” Their dreamlike voice fills the empty space, unselfconscious.
