It was still a bit of a novelty to be able to walk within the Citadel during Deepfrost without fear of lethal frostbite within seconds. Only needing to wear three layers of insulation beneath his heavy parka felt downright decadent, and Tal was whistling cheerfully as he rode one of his smaller sleds along over the freshly-packed snow in the lane towards the park where he had offered to meet the General.

It was one of the rare days of brilliant sunshine, if only for a few hours, and what better weather could they ask for? Not wanting to be late, the courier had instead managed to arrive fifteen minutes early; which gave him time to settle the dogs and re-check the blankets he'd packed into the sled for transporting the glass panes once they were finished.

And in your darkest hour,

Ensuring his duties were done for the day, guild-wise and in General accord, his long strides carried him towards another round of responsibilities. Used to keeping his days entirely full, whether by trainings, drills, patrols, hunting, and then whatever else he could fit in, it kept his machinations off anything but the ongoing need to ensure Halo’s success. He could almost hear Ru’s warning in the back of his mind (something about not running himself into the ground, possibly), and ignored it as he let his companions loose (Zuriel prancing in her queenly, sovereignly way, Belial making the loudest noise possible in a series of flight maneuvers), and stretched his limbs out towards the town perimeter.

Talyson had already beat him there, but the Sword was rarely late for anything, so he gave a nod in greeting, beginning to take off his gloves. “What have you been up to today?” By way of conversation, sorting out the preparations, snagging at a piece of paper layered in his coat – handing over a series of sketches for the courier to peruse. “Figured these would suit best,” pointing to a larger set of glass panes for the cause.

Tal heard Belial's winged approach first, and turned from fussing with the dogs to offer a welcoming wave at the General's appearance. Deimos looked ready for business, and while the courier wasn't the best team player when it came to people, he was far more proficient when it came to hounds and companions. Maybe it was the hellhound in Deimos that made it so easy to fall into rhythm with him.

Or maybe it was his conscious decision to be on good behavior around a man whose respect had come to mean a lot to him in recent months. It was amazing what he could do with the right motivation.

"Hey, Deimos. I've been training this year's pups," Tal answered with a grin, taking the paper and perusing the sketches with a curious eye. "Getting them used to takin' commands and pullin' a little weight."

The larger panes were pointed out and he nodded thoughtfully, glancing back to the sled and measuring with a calculating eye to dimensions before nodding again more sharply. "Yeah. I can transport those anywhere in the Citadel whenever the pillar is ready." He handed the paper back. "What about you? Busy day so far?"

And in your darkest hour,

The soldier’s eyes went to the dogs, and then to his own companions, wondering how long it would be before he was in his pockets, fishing out treats to the general party of animals. Holding off for now, he reached out a hand to pat several on the head, before his gaze flicked back to the parchment. “Always,” he rumbled, with a sort of smile that indicated he didn’t mind it at all. “All right, let me see what I can do.”

He'd have to start along the ground, instead of the usual in between his palms method – as these ornamentations were much larger to scale. Instilling a breath, he conjured the image rendered in his outlines vividly in his mind, and then allowed them to come to life; gilded and flush against the snow. The glass flickered along the edges at first, stable enough to beholden an eventual cannon, the pane sliding downward as he brushed his hands over the mass, ensuring it grew, and grew, and grew – golden and light for an instant, before he stepped back. “Think that will be decent?”

The dogs, grown accustomed to the General (and they always remembered a pocket that had once held treats) were eager to bounce under his hands and lick his fingers with excited whines and wagging tails. Tal chuckled at their energy, then waded in among them to try and discourage the jumping, at least, grinning at Deimos's reply.

With the dogs calmed and convinced to flop down in the snow with lolling tongues and perked ears towards the humans, Tal turned his full attention on the magic already beginning to spark and flow from Deimos's fingers. Clear and flawless, the pane took shape and the courier stayed back until it was done. He leaned forward to check the clarity and stability, but magic allowed for a perfection that a glazier could only dream of. "If it isn't, we're fucked," he agreed cheerfully. "I've never seen a piece of glass so pretty! Just three more to go!" But first he went to grab one of the blankets from the sled to slide over the first pane, to prevent any scratches or random-ningo-related damage.

"How far d'you think it'll reach once it's done?" Not having been present for the previous discussions, he was a little fuzzy on the details.

Even if Deimos had to be occupied by his task, Belial certainly wasn’t – deciding to be an agitator by diving and swooping by the dogs, either striving to entice them into some variant of chase or just to be irritating. Zuriel, for her part, ignored them entirely, muzzle deep into a patch of snow.

With the acceptance of the glass, the General nodded. “I have made some windowpanes for Safrin’s shrine in Torchline,” with a shrug and way of explanation of experience – though he’d consider those far more aesthetically pleasing than the slate of glass here. Which was fine – this one wasn’t meant to be for ornate purposes – but weaponry, defenses, and armaments.

His eyes watched as Talyson carefully began sliding it over to the sled, and then began construction on the next. Applying the same techniques, the gilded glow resumed, though it took far less concentration than the first, and some muscle memory instilled along the folds of his incantations – eagerly, easily, tilting his head while he worked. “I am not certain. Hopefully far enough to impede any dragons.” Or adversaries flying in on dragons, if they were going with past events. “We still need to have a discussion about how we are going to work it.” With the whole of Halo, and what their inputs would be.

The dogs were still harnessed in their line, but that didn't stop them from jumping up and barking excitedly at the divebombing peryton, trying to leap up as high as their tethers would let them to take a nip at departing hooves or tail feathers and generally creating a tangled mess of their lines.

Bell was better behaved; she didn't jump, but she did hop to her feet and growl, fur bristling as her pack was led into disarray by the mischievous companion.

Tal glanced over, saw the chaos, and winced. But it was already too late to stop the mess and he didn't dare drop the pane now. "Is that the one in the lighthouse?" He asked curiously over his shoulder.

He settled it among the borrowed cushions (his sisters would never need to know) and then grabbed a second blanket and trotted back to catch the second pane when it was done, grin tilting crookedly at Deimos's hopes. "That'd be a good start. Say, uh... this is a 'sun' cannon, right? What happens if a dragon comes when it's cloudy? Or at night?" His brow furrowed at the need for a trigger, too, scowl threatening to pull his face into its moodier lines.

"Mm... probably don't want it to be just usable by the Council. What if Noah's off doin' demigod stuff for Vi, or you an' Sah are out meetin' leaders in Torchline or Stormbreak or something? But if just anyone could use it, that could be bad, too..." In the wrong hands it could do a lot of damage. And there were a lot of wrong hands who could sneak in to the Citadel undetected until it was too late.

Cheeky and obnoxious, Belial continued to counter with a fanged grin, ignoring the hound’s attempts at some obvious warning. Deimos lifted his head to watch for a moment, frowning, while the peryton launched into an elegant tailspin, descending rapidly – a great, grand showoff, before –

Zuriel snagged him by the ends of his feathers, and the companion was truly caught out.

With the unicorn putting the beast in line, the General rolled his eyes, and went on about his work, intending to piece together glass pane number three as Talyson moved the other piece onto the sled. “Yes,” he murmured, concentrating on orchestrating an identical pane to the former – hands outlining the details in their gilded faction.

As far as the sun cannon, he studied the ground, brows furrowing, while the questions came reeling. “Perhaps it can store the solar energy,” harnessing it for the benefit of Halo. It’d be an inquiry for later, after construction and building, and likely for Frey, on how to truly work all the mechanics together. “Hence why we will have a discussion about it,” noting with an arch of his brow, as the third came into fruition, the veneer surface smooth and concise.

Bell barked once, sharply, and then waded in to start sorting out her pack once the harassing peryton had been handled. It was going to require time and thumbs to unsnarl some of the lines, but she could calm her fellow hounds and get them settled so at least they didn't make things worse.

Tal breathed a quiet sigh of relief as the antics came to an end and the sled stilled, making it easier to load the second pane and make sure it was well-secured and well-cushioned against bumps and knocks, determined not to let Deimos's hard work go to naught.

Another blanket was obtained and the courier trotted back across the snow to check on the third pane's progress. No less perfect than its siblings, Tal waited for Deimos to approve of his work before beginning the careful task of bundling once more. "When d'you think it'll be?" He was only a little abashed of jumping ahead with his questions, and he was relaxed enough around the General now to not let it get to him.

With antics mildly subdued, and Belial admonished, sinking further into the snow as Zuriel dropped him along the ground, Deimos could only snort at the inquiry. Waiting until the courier had managed to snag at the second, then third pane, before he started on the fourth, he tilted his head a slight degree, both feline and canine antics immersed at once, permitting a snort to rally through. “I do not have the power of prophecy,” though angled with a grin, some manner of taunting as he adjusted his stance and went to incantations again.

Beginning on the last, he crouched down again, allowing the same rallying actions to follow through, glass appearing, flickering briefly, below his fingertips. “But soon, I imagine,” he uttered eventually, as if to give the Talyson some modicum of relief in the questioning. Noah was just as busy as the rest of them, and Deimos presumed he’d like to lead or start the lines of discussion.

"Who needs prophecy when you've got the power of bein' on the council?" Tal grinned back before beginning the short trek back to the sled with the newest pane, taking as much care now as he had with the first. He was no stranger to 'handle with care' deliveries and he treated the task with due diligence. "I figure you'd be the first to hear about anythin' getting decided. Or at least the second."

And Tal would much rather hear about it from Deimos than Sah. Plus, he didn't know Noah well enough to expect to hear anything from the demigod.

He was quiet while he packed the pane away, focused on making sure it was well-padded and secure before trotting back to check on the fourth pane. "What ideas have you come up with?" he asked curiously.

“A busy council,” he added; knowing his own intentions of sharpening the Deepfrost Shields into something formidable, as well as providing his protective manners within the Citadel already kept him quite occupied. “There is still much to be done.” Building the pillar where the sun was unparalleled, frame creating (wondering if he’d have to be constructing those pieces as well), and then placing the glass into said proportions, and setting them atop the not-yet-manifested column. “For now, keep asking those questions. They will be important for everyone to respond to.” And decide, ultimately, how the beam would be triggered.

Remaining in his crouch, he finalized the touches of the fourth pane, rounding out the edges of the veneer, before raising his head back up to the courier. A snort volleyed through, being purposefully obtuse and annoying for the sake of his own amusement. “You will see.”

After the rumbling, Cheshire tones, he rose to his full height once more, putting his gloves back on. “There.” Content with how they’d turned out, and allowing the courier to grab the last, his brow arched again at another realm of possibilities. “Where do we want to safely store these?”

Tal just grinned and shrugged at the council's busy days, content in the knowledge that it was somebody else's problem. "Yeah, I'll keep thinkin' about it. Can't be too hard or too easy." His grin twitched down towards his thinking-frown as he dealt with the third pane.

The frown turned into a full scowl at the mischievous non-answer, but the courier's nose was wrinkled more with annoyance at being teased than frustration and he heaved a dramatic sigh, looking back to Bell with an expression of saintly patience. "Fiiiine," he groaned. "I guess I can wait."

...Not that he had any choice in the matter.

When the fourth was ready, Tal bundled it as carefully as the rest and loaded it in before moving around the sled with straps to secure the precious, fragile load. "Mmm. Is there room at the Barracks? It'd be easy to get them out of there when we're ready. Otherwise probably one of the Palace storage rooms?" he suggested while he worked.

Considering the scowl was the exact reaction the Sword had been aiming for, a content and satisfied grin, self-awareness at his purposeful irritation, remained. Ensuring the panes were secured, testing and tugging on a few ropes, the inquiries came back towards him. “My only concern is one stray, flying weapon,” of which there could potentially be many – knowing some of the more novice individuals were still being disarmed on a regular basis. Or a clumsy individual wandering into the armory. Or any spare room, inevitably not being careful. Then all the work would have to be restarted.

The second option sounded better, and there would be less people about to inevitably, haphazardly, break and decimate the glass. “The storage rooms should work.” At that, he nodded, holding a hand over some of the proportions, intending to guard and assure a lack of movement as the sled maneuvered towards the Palace.
