From being an Abandoned who had rarely left the Hollowed Grounds, to embracing the call of adventure, to dying and being reborn first as an Ascended and then as an Ancient, Maea has gone through quite the amount of changes in her life. One thing remains common, though, in her attempts to find out just where she belongs; she’s always had a craving for knowledge which has brought her to so many places and to meet so many people here in Caido. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for her!

then it went dark
Time would tell if waking up naked—with an equally naked Deimos—next to Ronin, would prove to be the hardest part of the day. One might think heading down into the bowels of the earth to try and recover a relic from gods knew what would surely take the cake, and yet...
Having prepped clothes for the Sword and after a quick breakfast, the trio set off down the beach and toward the ocean. Flying in various forms until they reached the Maw, it was with manta crystals securely in hand that they initiated the KQ began to search for whatever it was Ludo thought was worth investigating below.
Opting to be shifted, it was with massive limbs and eyes the size of small cars that the kraken moved through the water. He'd pull Deimos or Ronin along if they wanted, but if not, he'd simply reach out with his various senses that he might deduce where they should go. If you were a relic... He thinks towards the other two. Where would you be?

Ronin opts not to be entirely shifted, because it's much more fun that way. And he is, indeed, being towed along by a kraken tentacle, his clothing billowing around him in the dark water, his eyes the dark, fathomless black of a leviathan. With a manta crystal pressed and bound against his throat, too, he's able to see and breathe as easy as any sea creature, though he does feel hilariously small as they sink down to the bottom of the Maw.
Knowing our luck, in the belly of some beast. Isn't that how it usually goes? His amusement belies the mantle of sobriety that sets his shoulders and his jaw. This shit is going to be dangerous, and they aren't in their natural habitat right now. Doesn't stop the banter, though. Also, Deimos, I'm sorry again for spooning you this morning. I thought you were Remi.

Mentally preparing himself for the awkwardness thereafter really hadn’t been enough – but he endured, as he so often did. Clothes on, breakfast eaten, setting off for the beach had been fine, committing his mind to the task at hand rather than anything else.
Mildly intrigued by Ronin’s partial shifting, but making no mention other than an arched brow, Deimos chose to wear the manta crystal around his neck and remain in his human form, also being tugged along by a tentacle, utilizing the opportunity to gaze at the surroundings.
Aware he was being teased, he snorted and grumbled throughout the bond. That was a first. he couldn’t recall ever being mistaken for Remi in any other occasion, but ended it with a half-grin. If anything, the ridiculous banter set him more at ease, not permitting the trepidation to settle into his spine as they swam further and further into the deep.

With three titans of power swimming towards a specific point, it won't take long for their efforts to take them to the very edge of the Maw itself. Below there seems to be nothing but unfathomable darkness, and yet all three of the men will be keenly aware that the seemingly bottomless pit is anything but empty.
Something dwells in the deep. Something colossal and old. Something uncoiling and shifting.
Something making itself ready.
As you swim, you realize that it isn't the lack of light making the water so dark, but instead a slick substance that seems to swallow any and all light.

They continue to drift down and Ronin continues to let himself be towed by the tentacle wrapped around his waist, and although his eyes are shifted and he's peering around, he can't see anything below them. Dark is dark is dark, in fairness, but this isn't Ronin's first rodeo, and he knows that not being able to see isn't necessarily evidence that it's mere shadow causing it.
Keep going, he urges Remi, smiling to himself even as three starbolts light the space around him. He has no idea how celestial magic will work underwater, but he's going to go for it anyway, shooting the bolts down, down into the deep.
Ronin waits for them to drift a little lower and then fires three starbolts down at the blackness, either to light up the Maw or to try and hit whatever might be down there.

This is fun. Remi comments dryly, tugging along the Sword and Huntsman. Only as they reach the vast chasm that heralds the start of the Maw does the alchemist slow, though with almost nothing around them it was difficult to know just how much he'd decreased his speed by. Whatever happens, I will try and hold it. I will let you know if it gets too much but...if it comes to it, I would rather a bit of friendly fire than see one of you hurt.
Keep going, Ronin urges, and so Remi does. The water...its...can you feel that? He wonders, before reaching out with 7 tentacles (his 8th is still regrettably shorter than the others), to try and grapple whatever it is that might be below.
Remi uses his INT 2 to try and feel his way through the darkness and grapple whatever is below.

Deimos couldn’t help that feeling of trepidation surging again, but strived to keep it tamped down, away from bonds, away from others’ apprehensions. He swallowed the dread, eyes narrowing at the darkness, listening to the plans. Ronin’s light might signify what lurked, but in the meantime, he could attempt to reach out with his own incantations.
Remi’s notions brought back how they’d forged through the tunnels in the Oerwoud, and he barely withheld a grimace. I will still try not to, rumbled through the Attuned accord, before he reached out with life drain, towards the abyss. With any luck, they could pummel before the beast did the same.

The darkness is thundering and vast. Ronin 's starbolts streak down, but the thick blackness of the water swallows up the light that they normally provide. It doesn't seem as though he's hit anything. Similarly, Remi 's tentacles, large and long-reaching as they are, touch upon nothing. And, in keeping with the theme, the magic Deimos sends down strikes upon nothing.
The real question is whether or not the trio has missed because there was nothing there, or because whatever is there, simply evaded them.
From the darkened depths a wall of flesh strikes up through the black water just as cleanly as a spear. Reaching for the large thing in the water, Remi will feel a tentacle wrap around his own; a tentacle so large that it suggests whatever is below is larger than even he is. With a sharp yank Remi is pulled down (and had his tentacles been connected with bone, this one would have been nearly pulled out of its socket).

His starbolts plunge into nothingness, failing to light anything or hit anything, and Ronin hisses out a curse through the Attuned bond. That's nothing compared to what happens next, though, the Huntsman's eyes widening at the sight of something massive shooting through the water and holding hands with his husband (rude).
Ronin continues to clutch at the tentacle he's hitched a ride with, and although his Dazzle has already kicked in out of panic or otherwise, he doubts it will let them see much. That doesn't matter, though, the Huntsman conjuring three more bolts and firing them at the mass in the dark that's presumably attached to whatever is dragging at Remi.
Ronin holds onto Remi and fires more starbolts at Daddy Kraken.

Magic: Dazzle | At times of heightened emotion, Ronin radiates starlight. Any non-organic item he touches during this time will also give off light for a duration of 1 hour. The intensity of the light directly correlates to the intensity of the emotions.

It's a first, not to be the biggest thing, and though Remi might already have predicted his reaction to such a situation, now that he was in it, he could say without a doubt that he absolutely, unequivocally, did not like it.
Tugged down it's with a surprising warble of pain that Remi finds himself tentacle to tentacle with presumably another kraken. Don't let it hit you— He has time to think toward the others, before wondering to himself if he would be in a position to restrain this thing.
I am going to try and hold it— Feeling his way up the tentacle holding him, Remi would try and grapple as many of the Daddy Kraken's tentacles as he could.
Remi pulls himself towards the creature using its tentacle and tries to bind as many of its limbs as he can.

Nothing but darkness. Nothing but the endless abyss. Nothing –
Until there wasn’t.
His jaw clenched and the dread that had been fixated firmly in his gut remained rooted there. But for a man trained to rush headlong into such risks, such jeopardy, he remained steadfast and firm, inclined to the warning – still in Remi’s hold, but contemplating what to do next. Calculations over trepidation. Machinations over apprehension.
With it closer, there, perhaps this was the opportunity to strike, rather than their previous attempts. Swallowing down any bile, he unfurled another striving aim to unfurl his Life Drain incantations towards the beast.

Though the tides haven't quite turned (not down here, where only the Daddy Kraken is able to move that much water), things are looking...up? left? right?
Ronin 's starbolts briefly illuminate the area, revealing massive tentacles of which Remi is already quite familiar. All three hit the Kraken Daddy, missing Remi. Thanks to a nat 100, Remi is able to collect all of the Kraken Daddy's tentacles within his own, making it quite easy for Deimos to hit the creature (and, luckily, avoid Remi).

If ever there was a cheerleader in the depths of the Maw, it's Ronin Taliesin. Granted, most of his cheerleading involves him yelling, YEAH GET 'EM through the Attuned bond, accompanied by flares of adrenaline and excitement, but it still counts, right?
Through a leviathan's eyes and with a Dazzle and starbolts at the ready, he does his best to get his bearings, and as Remi's tentacles encircle the Kraken Daddy, it's all the better. I didn't know you had a brother, he quips to his husband, lancing three more starbolts out to try and whittle the creature down.
Ronin rinses and repeats!

Remi might have grunted something like, I sure do. Come and shake his hand, were it not for the colossal effort it was taking to keep the creature restrained. Instead, all Ronin (and Deimos) would feel, was a wry pulse of amusement suddenly clouded by a thickening fury. The Daddy Kraken wasn't going to be as easy to restrain as the gargoyle in the desert had been once upon a time, and though Remi liked a challenge, all this was doing was making him angry.
Retreating into himself that there might be more room for pure instinct, the alchemist continues to coil and curl around the creature that he might keep it restrained for Ronin and Deimos.
Remi continues to try and hold!
