Ophelia

Sunjata’s apologetic nod is unnecessary, but Ophelia receives it with a temperate smile regardless. Food has no meaning for them anymore, but they’re not without empathy for their human counterparts who have been gainfully assisting with the entire process. It gives them time to hide in the shadows, taking a mental break more than a physical one. Reevaluating the area and the materials so that when it’s time to reconvene, they have a better attack plan.

The next house goes much the same. Foundations, beams, walls. Keeping a careful eye for the minutia; the connections, hardware, bolts. Ensuring nothing is missed or half-done lest weather and time collapse all their hard work around their heads.

Sah

Sah wipes sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand as he eyes the finished house. It came together better than he expected and as the break is called, he heads over eagerly to get some water and fuel. Soon enough it's time for take two and he leads his team over to the next suitable spot to build.

Sah divides the work up amongst his people and starting with the foundation, he has the frame built followed by the start of the rest of the house. As they work, he checks his own work periodically as well as the blueprints to make sure that everything is going smoothly.

the first cut was the deepest, but it healed up whole

This time it’s a little bit more difficult to work the walls into place, but between the team of people each group has, it easily takes the rest of the day to complete the next set of houses. Darkeye’s team manages to get their house done first, the group of people with him patting each other on their backs with broad smiles before drifting toward the campfire that still burns to start prepping for dinner.

Ophelia’s team takes a little bit longer, but they manage to get their house done and standing as well. And with all their care of ensuring that the elements don’t effect the main frames of the house, it’s a solid structure by the end of the day.

Sah also finds luck with the mixture of his instruction and the group he works with. Roughly about the same time as Ophelia, Sah’s house stands as well equally as sturdy. And during this time, Sunjata’s focused on the paths for the homes, flattening and making room for the roads to lead to each entrance of the house, prepping with little things here and there and helping out each group as needed.

But they’re done before long and Sunjata flashes them all a bright grin of thanks by the fire where food continues to cook or stay warm, drinks shared around. “This looks great, everyone, thank you.” He pauses to look around the area once more before returning his attention to the group. “The last step’s easy and I think we can get it done today before we have to spend another day working. Mostly, I just need a bit more help covering up the ground for the roads. One toward the river, one back toward the center of King’s End, and the last one heading out toward the trees northside.” It would be easy with how many people they have, and Sunjata doesn’t anticipate it to happen soon. They have to fuel up, after all.

But once they do, it’s the last leg!

Fuel up on food and water and whatever else and then we just have to break into 3 groups again, one to the west, one to the north, and one south west to drag a heavy plate with the help of material attached to the carts to flatten out the ground for the roads!

Nine strikes

He nodded to Sunjata that was a good idea in his eyes.
Darkeye gives his men a little longer break and starts forging. He builds a kind of Roller with a suspension that one could harness the bull or oxen. It would not take long. He sent his people before the way to the west to clear the roughest to the side. It might even be necessary to break up the ground with a plow and level it again, but they could still do that if necessary. His team had now become well established and many followed the orders without much discussion, they understood what they have taken on these tasks. It was for a place of peace and confidence. It was everything Darkeye had hoped for and it took shape faster than he hoped. An ox led the way with a plow to pull the earth aside from larger stones and the helpers filled the hole with earth. Darkeye led his ox with the whale at a distance behind. He would make sure that the animals and the workers would be sufficiently rewarded after this work.

Ophelia

It’s not as swift and painless as the first building they erected, but with consistent toil even the errors and missteps don’t matter. Ophelia doesn’t need rest or sustenance the way their human peers do, so as the new task is explained they dismiss their workers to rest for a bit while they continue on. Luckily it seems Darkeye and Sah are equally as ready to take on the task at hand, which leaves them with the choice of picking a direction and prepping the metal slab.

A gentle hand pats the neck of the working animals attached to the front of the cart, speaking softly to them in encouraging undertone before they begin. They’ve always liked animals far more than people anyway. Grateful for their inability to feel the twinge of joints and muscle, Ophelia sets them on the path going north, and begins dragging the material behind the cart to flatten the road.

Sah

The next house comes together well enough and Sah stretches with satisfaction as he heads over to grab himself a plate and a tall glass of water. Lilly trails beside him, eager for a taste of some of the meat roasting. "Thank you for the food", the Abandoned greets the cooks as he finds a cozy spot beneath a tree to rest for a moment.

Once he's properly fueled up, he then heads over to grab one of plates. Getting everything secured, he then grabs his team, and they begin to pull it southwards. Even Lilly pitches in, grabbing hold of a loose rope on the bundle and pulling it along with the rest.

The last bit of work to be done and everyone takes to their task with ease. And for a moment, Sunjata can’t imagine a better group to start things off with as he picks his own path to help flatten out. He can see the houses standing in the distance, a promising start for the rest of the construction they intend to do. He just hopes there’s enough time.

Darkeye, Sah, and Ophelia all pull their carts with their groups, flattening out roads without any trouble other than some large rocks that need removal. For the most part, it’s easy work this time, not having to set concrete or place beams in the correct positions. And even if the flattening is off by a bit, it isn’t like time and the elements wouldn’t push it down further once more people started wandering through.

So when they’re done and regrouped, Sunjata flashes them all a grateful smile, offering whatever help he can offer them to pay them back for the time spent here helping him get this together. And whether they choose to stay one more night before departing, Sunjata intends to stay for a bit longer, fine tuning some of the other things for the next round they’ll need to start soon.
