War hits every region, but some much harder than others. The world rends and churns and erupts from its very foundations, but in many places, preparations have been made. The people have come together to ensure the survival of their homes.

Not so for the Greatwood.

It isn't so much the fault of the citizens, but the lack of direction (or leadership, one might say) has made any efforts mediocre at best. And so when the Stonesong swells and surges and floods across the forest, there is little that can be done to save it.

Or so one might think.

Swamped and inundated by torrents of water, the Greatwood begins to split apart, at risk of sinking away to little more than a few soggy tumps of soil. But whilst the Greatwood Guardian is absent, these woods here have a hidden protector.

They have a mother, and the great old tree and the goddess within it have no intention of going down so easily.

They say that the Mathair's roots spread wide and far through the region, and it is these roots now that reach and grab and sink into the earth, anchoring it in place before it can drift too far.

When the world tells stories of the Greatwood after the war, they will not speak of demigods or heralds.

No, they will speak only of the Mathair, and revere her steadfast strength in keeping her forest home close.
