Vibrancy is crucial

Ray sent out a notice, posting it on every board she could reach. With the recent efforts to connect land and sea, her shop needed another renovation. This time, she was hoping to expand her infirmary into a full clinic and to add a pier that would allow mer to seek her aid as well. Connected to that would need to be secure underwater resting places for recovering mer.

Standing on the edge of the canal that bordered her shop, Ray took a deep breath. This was going to be a lot of work but hopefully Torchline would rally and make the first mer/human clinic a success.

A PQ to expand the Lunarium Apothecary to include canal/pier access for mer and to expand the infirmary into a full mer/human clinic!  Please post your character arriving!

Kaiden had seen the notice and had debated heavily with themselves as to whether they wished to help. The mershark wasn't one for philanthropy but they were rather prone to injury. Being a citizen of Torchline, having a clinic that they could go to seemed worthwhile. Even if it meant being around so many other people and mer.

With a huff, they reluctantly swam through the canal till they were beside the Lunarium Apothecary. "I'm here to help. What do you want?" They didn't recognize the woman beyond having seen her around. She seemed to be the owner and the leader of today's efforts. Hopefully she wasn't some bossy bitch.

Hadama had been waiting for the notice, and had made sure it was posted clearly in the Underwater City. These were the sorts of projects he hoped to encourage and foster, though it certainly helped that Ray was his friend as well.

On the day it was scheduled he moved more slowly than Kaiden, both due to his own dignity and the drag from the large net full of tough brown and green kelp that he hauled behind him. The long stems and trailing leaves could be used to weave a number of useful things underwater, and they were easy to repair and replace as sections wore out over time.

He surfaced near Kaiden just in time to hear the mershark's brusque demand, and the King considered his fellow Mer thoughtfully for a moment. He made no admonition, however, simply turning to nod deeply to Ray in respect. "Ray. A pleasure. I have looked forward to this."

Farrow
Farrow had seen the notice on her travels, and though she had still needed to settle into her new home in the Greatwood, she was hoping help was still needed as she stepped into the city. Herbheart had raced just a bit at the thought of seeing and working in a real apothecary, even if just to help with expansion, her mother had always worked out ofbthier small shack, and her village had been far enough away from any real town that Farrow had never been in a true herbalists shop.

Indeed, as Farrow found her way to the apothecary, Farrow could tell that while construction had begun, there was still some work to be done. Farrow pushed the door to the apothecary open, and took a few shy steps into the main space, hand wringing the strap of her pack hard enough to turn the knuckles white.
"H-hello?" The shop was silent, and Farrow shifted in her feet, finally taking a few more steps. "My name is Farrow. I uh, I saw your notice. Do you still need help?"

Ray smiled as everyone arrived. She didn't recognize the young mer but she gave Kaiden a grin, "Thank you." And then came Hadama, her dear friend. "Me too. Thank you for coming." The mermanta was as reliable as always, and the herbalist was happy to have his aid today. Last to arrive was another unfamiliar face. Ray gave the other woman a warm, reassuring, smile, "Hi! Yes, please.  My name's Ray. It's nice to meet you. Thank you for volunteering."

When it was clear that no one else was arriving, Ray ushered everyone together at the edge of the water to explain their first tasks. "Ok. So, to start, we need to expand out the canal to make room for the pier and underwater rooms. At the same time we need to start the frame for the infirmary expansion. We can split up, mer and human and tackle it."

~
Round 1! No post order.

1. Ray and Farrow will work on the frame for the infirmary expansion/clinic.

2. Hadama and Kaiden will work on digging out and expanding the canal to make room for the pier and underwater rooms.

All supplies/tools are available.

"Yeah, yeah." Kaiden scoffed but listened as the woman explained their tasks. She was bossy, not even letting them choose which task to take! Granted, it made sense to split land construction and water construction between those who could physically do so. But the point still remained!  And this woman was Hadama's friend? Of course, she was. But seeing their King be bossed around was nice and it even brought a small grin to the mershark's face.

Then it was time to start. Kaiden grabbed one of the available pickaxes and began to hack at the edge of the canal to widen it. The stone and earth were strong and the mer grit their teeth as they worked to force it open.

The woman who came last was new to Hadama, and the merman tilted his head at her in greeting. "I am Hadama. A pleasure to meet you, Farrow." His voice was low and deep, matching the broad chest and strong arms of the dark-skinned Mer. He noted Kaiden's lack of introduction with his usual quiet bemusement, but made no attempt to rectify the omission.

Introductions were by necessity brief, for there was work to be done. He listened intently to Ray's plan, nodding understanding of her intention and sending a subtle pulse of approval through the Attuned bond before moving to join Kaiden.

A pickaxe was no easy thing to wield underwater. It took a great deal of strength to swing it through the density of the liquid and have it land with any force and momentum behind it. But Hadama had trained in his mother's forge and now that he had begun to come into his magic he knew a few tricks to making it easier to swing tools underwater.

He used his upgraded  Water Magic to shift the water in the canal away from where he and Kaiden were swinging even as they worked their way deeper, so that it remained only waist high below them and created a column of space above so that the arcs of the pickaxes were unimpeded as they broadened the canal nearest Ray's clinic and extended it to the edge of the building.

Hadama uses his Upgraded Water Magic and a pickaxe to help Kaiden dig out the canal.

Farrow
Farrow hoped that it wasn't obvious that, before today, she had never seen the ocean, let alone a mermaid... merman...merperson?... before. She murmured small hellos to Ray and Hadama, not too perturbed by the third's lack of greeting. Despite her odd urge to help with this project, a notion born out of curiosity, impulse, and a late, sleepless night's bravery, she wasn't one much for people, or... society either.

She didn't have much time to dwell on it anyway as the group seemed to jump into action, startling Farrow with their enthusiasm and general speed. She gathered a few tools and rushed to help Ray with the framing.

Ray gave Hadama a quick grin as his approval made its way through the bond. She sent a quiet wave of gratitude before the group set off to work. There were mixed results but overall, progress was made. Despite Kaiden's meager strength, they made up for it with stubbornness and aggression against the stones in their way. With Hadama's help digging and clearing the stones, the two mer were successful in ensuring the canal was deep and wide enough for any mer to access Ray's clinic.

On land, Farrow had the most success of all. Despite the woman's uncertainty, she proved her aptitude for building. Her part of the frame came together easily. And although Ray had mor trouble, including dropping a wooden plank on her foot, Farrow was able to step in to help. Together, the frame was completed, and Ray gave Farrow a sheepish smile, "Thank you."

Soon they regrouped and Ray grinned, "Well done, everyone!" Though she winced slightly when she put her full weight on her foot. There would certainly be a bruise tomorrow, but she was still able to work. "Next we need to create the underwater rooms and get the walls and doors up for the clinic. I've got some stone and steel coming..." A merchant rode up with a cart as she spoke and the man deposited the materials at the water's edge, "...and there it is. We can use these for the underwater construction. Some other volunteers also arrived so we have plenty of hands. Alright team! This will probably be the last thing we get to today. Let's go!"

Round 2! There will likely be rounds total.  No post order! There are NPCs available to help.

1. Kaiden and Hadama need to use the stone and steel (with hammer/bolts) to build the frames for the underwater section of the clinic.

2. Ray and Farrow need to add the walls and doors to surface portion of the clinic.

Kaiden let out a pleased 'hmph' as they surveyed their work so far. They eyed the merchant as they arrived, vaguely listening to the Ray woman give out the next set of instructions. At least she chose building materials that could be used underwater. Looking at the cubby like space that they and Hadama had carved alongside widening the canal, they decided that three rooms could fit.

"Let's do three." They called to Hadama as they grabbed, they rolled the first of the steel beams into the canal. With the help of some of the volunteers, Kaiden began to work with the others to create the frames. Three separate rooms for individuals to recover in that the mershark assumed would then be connected to the main building somehow. At least that was all they had to do today. Kaiden would never admit it, but they had a feeling that they'd need a nap after this.

Farrow's unfamiliarity with the Mer went unnoticed in the bustle of activity, especially with the two groups divided as they were. There was a great deal of work to do and little time for idle conversation as they went about their tasks until the first batch were completed successfully.

The two Mer made a good team, and a subtle flicker of satisfaction slid through the Attuned bond to Kaiden and Ray as Hadama looked over their progress. "Yes," he agreed with the mershark, and hoped that there would never be so many of his people injured within Haulani's territory at the same time.

But as the War had shown, better to have too many rooms than too few.

While Kaiden began to erect the frames, Hadama turned his attention to the stone. "Drill here," he indicated to some of the helpful humans on shore. "And here, on both sides." As the stone blocks were completed and lowered into the water, he used his strength and water magic in combination to guide them into place between Kaiden's frames. Short steel bars slotted into the drill holes between each block on their tops and sides to hold the whole wall in place against the pull of the tide or future earthquakes.

Hadama gets NPCs to drill holes in the rocks and fills in the walls of Kaiden's frame, using short steel bars to create dowel joints between each block.

Farrow
Farrow surprised herself with her aptitude for building framing, and silently thanked her mother for forcing her to help with the trellis and the fence in their garden  every year. Every once in a awhile she would peer below the surface to see Hadama and his companion skillfully digging out their canals, both fascinated and slightly terrified at the way Hadama sent his pickaxe flying through the water.

Once the new volunteers arrived, things began to bustle, though, and in the hurry to erect walls and build doorways for the surface portion of Ray's clinic, she didn't have a chance to watch anymore of their work as she hustled from one side of the new build to the next.

Things began to truly move forward and soon the sun began to set.  With Kaiden's determination and Hadama's intelligence, the underwater rooms' frames came together smoothly. And with the help of the NPCs, rather quickly. The rooms were secured into the stone and wouldn't be going anywhere in the next earthquake. Farrow proved herself once more. With her leading the charge, Ray and their NPCs managed to have decent success on land. The buildings were looking nearly complete, though the ones on land were certainly rough around the edges in places. Ray sent a burst of satisfaction and gratitude through the bond as they parted ways for the night.

After a good night's sleep, the group reconvened. Ray set out breakfast and coffee when she arrived, placing a table near the water for the mers to access as well. "Good morning! We have another busy day today. First things first, let's finish up these rooms and connect underwater ones to the main body of the clinic."

Kaiden found a cozy spot near the shore and slept hard. In the morning they returned and were pleasantly surprised to find food available. With barely concealed wonder, they devoured some kind of of fluffy and flaky pastry that the land-dwellers apparently had. They had no idea what it was. But they hid three more under a rock just above the water line for later.

Once they had their fill, Kaiden grabbed a few of the NPCs and began to finalize the walls of the rooms and add in the doors. Once those were done, the mer began to aid in the construction of connecting them to the main body of the clinic. A platform of stone near where there was marker for the pier that they had yet to build. It would allow mer and humans to travel between them.

~
With NPCs, Kaiden helps finish the underwater rooms with stone and steel doors and begins to create the connecter with more stones and steel beams.  A platform/bridge of sorts to connect the underwater and surface portions of the clinic. (Can you tell I know nothing about construction?)
