Across the crust stalks a creature made of stone and lava. This in itself is not out of the ordinary, though the sickly purple glow that festers from the slits in its rocky body where normally fire churns is the first indication of something gone amiss. The elongated fangs that are far more jagged than they have any right to be are the second, the poisonous lilac froth dripping from its mouth the third, and the spark of wirey intelligence in its eyes, the fourth.

The infected fyrhund stalks across the crust, violet eyes narrowed to slights. It makes no attempt at stealth; against the backdrop of darkness and lava, the glow of its purple body is practically a beacon. Instead, it lunges and attacks at everything within it's reach, from the smallest of animals capable of living upon the crust, to even the Ancients who call this place home. Rather than killing them, it bites them, leaving swollen and bloated purple bruises with festering violet sores.

Welcome to the Key Quest.

1. Talyson
2. Melita
3. Flora
4.

This KQ will scale based on the average level of the characters who join. Please give priority to those who need a KQ to level immediately.

As it turned out, Ancients liked to send and receive packages as much as the next race, so Tal had plenty of business in the Climb. At least his Frostbite Cuff kept the blistering heat at bay, making it a lot more tolerable than it used to be for the courier and his Halovian sensibilities.

The Peregrine had been left towards the edge of the territory with Boreal to guard her from unwanted boarders and the Messenger was making his way back from yet another delivery when he heard a growl on the other side of a black rock hill. He almost backed away and went the long way around.

Almost.

But curiosity killed the cat, and it would eventually kill the courier. Swearing at himself under his breath for making what was probably going to be a poor life choice, Tal snuck up to the top of the rise and looked down through his See-Right Goggles on--

Oh. Well.

Fuck.

Tal arrives with everything in his profile except for Boreal and the Peregrine.

He is currently wearing his See-Right Goggles:

Type: Light | Style: Other | Level: Mastered
See-Right Goggles: Reinforced goggles capable of seeing with perfect clarity regardless of conditions, up to 30ft. This includes magical darkness. Can see through illusions at 5ft, and be aware of illusions under 10ft.

Melita
Eating fire is your ambition
to swallow the flame down
Adventures on the Ark had the off chance of spinning them into multitudes of opportunities of exploring and pissing Jack off, and since those were some of her favorite things, Melita had no druthers about venturing along the reaches of the Climb. Besides, between her and Flora, the captain could be stirred in any direction –

And holy shit what the fuck was that?

Glancing down and already half-off the Ark, she pointed towards the creature across the crust. Normally, besides the fact that fyrhunds were cool and fiery and cool, she might not have bothered dicking around – but this one, was, you know…purple. “Do you see that?” She stage-whispered to Flora in that audacious tone, and choosing to ignore Talyson’s arrival entirely. “Want to go check it out?”

Melita arrives with everything in her profile except her companions.

It was true; between she and the Honeybee they had found ways to keep Jack practically tripping over himself, never mind the telepathy which made them even more of a nuisance than either of them even knew.

Dressed only sort of for this sort of expedition, at least Flora was in boots and pants instead of sandals and a sundress. Regardless, as Melita pointed out the glowing purple beast just gnawing on things as they passed, the Doubletake flashed her counterpart an immediate grin. "Duh."

Not wanting to draw the dog's attention by obnoxiously calling out to Talyson as she normally would, instead she just bobbed her eyebrows at him before keeping up with Melita.

As the trio approach, the beast turns on its haunches, ears flickering and muzzle wrinkling. With a snarl, the canine hunkers down and lunges forward, racing across the rocky mantle with incredible speed. The webbing on its paws as well as the thick pads allow it to move across both rock and lava with ease, as it aims a bite toward Flora.

Its jaws clamp down upon her forearm, digging into her muscle. Though it clearly possessed the strength to tear her arm from its socket, instead it released her as it had done with the various other animals around the Climb, leaving a bloody wound that glowed an ominous and unhealthy purple.

When Tal saw Melita he flattened himself a little further, trying not to catch her attention. He was distracted enough from the Voidhound to catch Flora's eyebrow waggle, at least, and he tentatively raised his fingers to wiggle them back in return, but he was all for not drawing attention to any of them--

Which worked about as well as one could expect in a KQ.

By the time he looked back to the bizarrely purple hound it was already in motion, and things went from weird-and-fucky to oh fuck no in about six seconds flat.

"Flora!" the courier yelped, scrambling up and launching himself down the slope and towards the blond as he threw a quick prayer to the winds. Hey Mort hope this is a good time because I could really use a hand sendin' this weird purple fyrhund to your Halls!, he channeled.

Fuckin' DOGS.

It all happens fairly quickly, and honestly, Flora was expecting more of a lead-up to the start of...well, just to the start. Maybe she expected Tal or Mel to throw themselves in front of her to block the dog (and just why would they?), or for it to stop and snarl, or for some giant bone to appear to distract it. So when none of these things happened, Flora found herself fucking bit, with absolutely no one to blame but herself.

That didn't mean she wouldn't blame someone else, though.

In the meantime, Flora did as she normally did and channeled Remi, while gulping down the cries of pain bumping against her clenched teeth and scrambling backward.

Flora channels Remi and scrambles backward.

I would like to use:

Citizenship Ability
Torchline: Torchline has taught you to survive her weather and her terrain. Once per PQ/PQ+/KQ/Drop, you can 'shrug off' half the damage from ONE non-lethal attack. Melita
Eating fire is your ambition
to swallow the flame down
Ohhhhkay this got real bad real fast.

Ordinarily, Melita wasn’t the kind to give a rat’s ass about dangerous situations, considering how often she hurtled herself headlong into them. But this was Flora, and the situation had turned dire, and ugly, quickly.

Gritting her teeth, the Honeybee began to move. “All right, you fucker,” she uttered and mumbled, figuring she could channel early, and then, if shit really hit the fan, start annihilating with all the weaponry at her disposal. Racing towards Flora on pure instinct and impulse, she also began calling for her own favored god. “Could use some help with this, Ludo.”

--

Melita begins moving towards Flora and channels for Ludo.

ludo

Braved the forests, braved the stone
Braved the icy winds and fire
Braved and beat them on my own

Unfortunately, whatever cosmic answering machine exists for the gods, Talyson gets it for Mort. Not to worry though - his favourite secretary is available to take calls for the god of death, and thus comes Ludo tumbling into the Climb like a ball of heroic cloth.

Whirling into its usually raggedy shape, its looks as though someone has drawn a frowny face onto its usually stoic mask. "Bad dog!" it calls, waggling a black tendril at the voidhound. The world darkens for a moment, enough for the shadow of what one might swear is a large cat sith to appear.

Swiping at the monstrous canine, not once but twice it's on the heels of an ethereal hissing that it, and Ludo, are gone again. Though not without a wave to Melita, though. At least someone picked it to show up.

but baby i've been here before; i've seen this room and i've walked this floor
One second he's making coffee for himself and Ronin in his boxers wearing a blanket like a cape, and the next Remi is standing on the crust of the Climb staring down what appeared to be a rabid dog. In his bare feet and holding a mug of coffee in one hand and the other reaching for the fur falling off of his shoulders, Remi looks quickly around. With Flora's screams still ringing in his ears and with Ludo's robes flailing in his peripheral vision, it didn't take much thought for him to figure out what to do.

"Absolutely not." He snaps at the creature, flaring his wings and flinging three bolts of starlight directly at the dog. "Flora are you al—" But then he's gone, tugged back to his houseboat, his coffee, and his husband.

Remi uses

Magic: Copycat | Remi can mimic the abilities from two fellow demigods (Old Gods only). In order to mimic the ability, Remi must have been damaged by it in a thread previously. Only one ability may be used per thread.

Magic: Shooting Stars | The user may summon celestial energy as a projectile. Control is excellent, and multiple projectiles may be created at once. (In quests or other combat situations requiring dice rolling, only 3 stars may be created per post). Range: 60ft
Type: Light | Rank: Mastered

Magic: Don't Pick Fights You Can't Win (feat) | Characters/Creatures who have a difference of 30 STR or greater compared to Remi, roll with disadvantage.
Type: Grey | Rank: Basic

Well. There's an angry bundle of rags, a cat, and a nearly naked man. When the dust settles (and there isn't much, there's mostly just lava and black rock), the void creature is still standing. Purple light is spilling from the slices of flesh removed by the cat's paw across its nose, and where Remi's starbolts hit it, its skin oozes a furious violet. Nevertheless, it staggers forward, sludge dripping from its jaws.

Drawn perhaps by her red hair, the dog lunges toward Melita, but the Honeybee, well-used to moving quickly on all sorts of surfaces, nimbly dodges out of the way, leaving the canine to clamp its jaws on nothing at all.

Yeah, Tal would take Ludo when the cards were down, and he'd be grateful. Somehow the teasing didn't seem so bad when the deity was saving his life. "Thanks!" he called to the vanishing whirl of rags and shadows. There was no time to call out to Remi, but the boxers were something he'd remember awkwardly whenever he thought about this day again.

Assuming he survived.

Skidding to a stop in front of Flora in an attempt to shield her, he lashed out with his Dagger at the voidbeast, hoping to keep it at bay and inflict some damage of his own. "Hang on, Flora! I got a healin' ring if y'need it!" he called back to her, blindly hoping that Melita would have both their backs in the crisis.

Tal slashes at the Void fyrhund with his Special Delivery Dagger!

Type: Grey | Style: Offensive | Level: Mastered
Special Delivery Dagger | A carefully crafted dagger veined with crimson markings, decorated with the foot of a blink hare. Upon making a stabbing motion in the air, the dagger may damage a target up to 30ft away from the user.

Type: Grey | Style: Defensive | Level: Mastered

"Thanks Dad!" The Doubletake had time to call out, not minding at all her father's state of dress (honestly, it could have been so much worse and they should all be thankful), before twisting her invisibility ring. Of course, she wasn't ignorant of the fact that the dog could probably smell her still, all the more easily for the blood dripping down her arm, but at least she wouldn't be in its line of sight anymore.

Unless it could see through illusions. That would suck.

Reaching for her daggers, Flora hurls one toward the creature.

"Yes please!' Flora chirped as she moved toward the courier, and, because she was invisible, she reached out to grope at Tal's arm so he'd know where she was. Or scare the shit out of him, either or.

Flora turns invisible and throws a feather at the creature.

She then nudges at Tal so he knows where she is for heals.

Melita
Eating fire is your ambition
to swallow the flame down
Melita, not being a creature derived from anything remotely resembling healing, was all the more eager for battle as Ludo appeared (and yes, she waved) and Remi descended. It was a beautiful maelstrom effect, already inspiring a litany of curses and grins as she snagged at her weaponry.

Power was potent and lively through her hands, and she relished its wondrous armaments. The Honeybee wasted no time in unfurling her bowstring bracelet, and snagging at her favored elemental quiver. Taking the bout of electricity, listening to it snap and crackle as she placed it along the strand, the youth aimed it at the massive beast, and took fire.

--

Melita uses her Bowstring Bracelet and an arrow from her Lightning Quiver, and fires it at the dog.

Type: Light | Style: Offensive | Level: Mastered
Bowstring Bracelet | At first this bracelet appears only as a length of intricately braided bowstring, adorned with vinelike patterns and tiny, fanged charms. But with an arrow in hand, upon miming the action of knocking and drawing it, the user will feel a bow beneath their fingers, as if it was there all along.

Type: Dark | Style: Offensive | Level: Mastered
Fire/Lightning/Ice Quiver | A magical quiver with two compartments. In one, it turns any arrow placed within into a flaming projectile when shot. In the other, the arrow becomes imbued with electricity. (Made by Remi)
