Starfall and the Void Infestation - A Report

Compiled by Maea Valair, Loreseeker, Hollowed Grounds Ambassador,
In the first half of Leafchange, year 317 PC

The Void Infestation

It began when meteors fell from the sky during LongNight of year 316 PC. Craters were discovered, but contained no sign of anything that might have made the impact. Talyson the Messenger and Sah the WildThunder were reportedly among the first to confirm the state of the craters, soon followed by Sunjata the Flood. Other observations may have occurred that have yet to be recorded.
Safrin announced her departure to intervene against an approaching threat. (exact date of departure unknown)
Some time later, during early Flowerbirth of the following year (317 PC), rumors of strange creatures began to circulate; reported to be aggressive and with unsettling coloration and aura previously unseen in Caido.

As the season progressed strange weather phenomena were observed across every known region. Additionally, encounters with these peculiar creatures became more frequent. Both flora and fauna were reported to be tainted with energies colloquially referred to as Void. This energy appears to unilaterally alter known behavior to increase aggression, toxicity, venom potency and even include new abilities that were previously unheard of within the species. Ex. hallucinogenic venom within Wine Spiders.

According to statements from Hadama the Tidebreaker, King of Torchline, as well as Remi the Lullaby, an individual who had been bitten by an infected Fyrhund did not experience any recovery of their wound. Indeed, it took the divine intervention of Rae to mend the injury; this was witnessed first hand by the Tidebreaker.

Safrin returned around the height of Flowerbirth (exact date unknown), severely weakened and claiming to have 'failed'. Throughout the latter half of the season a second moon began to show up in the night sky, purple hued and growing larger with the passing of the season.

Starfall

At the beginning of Tallsun in the year 317 PC, the event henceforth known as Starfall began.
The strange weather phenomena ceased.
The second moon turned out to be a gargantuan meteor. At the night of the first day of Tallsun this meteor crashed onto Caido, in the Arclight Ocean beyond Torchline, and a devastating tsunami followed that reached Torchline, Halo, King’s End and the outer islands of the Hollowed Grounds. Reports of meteor fragments impacting the regions have been collected even from as far away as the Hollowed Grounds and Greatwood, and due to the destructive forces of the impact and the subsequent flooding, great destruction afflicted the regions of Torchline and Halo. While similarly close to the impact, Stormbreak escaped untouched due to its elevated position.

Fragments of the meteor formed a new island within the Arclight Ocean, colloquially named Starfall after the event. As soon as it was possible to reach, Remi the Lullaby and Ronin the Supernova headed to the island of Starfall to investigate. There the Lullaby encountered a woman who names herself as Dahlia. She engaged the Lullaby in combat, and was able to defeat him. The Lullaby reports that celestial magic had no noticeable effect on the woman. He further reports that she possesses superior strength, superior speed and that her fingers appeared ‘talon-like, or perhaps made to pierce’. Additionally he describes her as ‘aristocratic, power-abusing as though acting for the fun of it’.
He further reports that she did miss a few blows and later were susceptible to his own demi-god ability, speculating that she is not as powerful as the gods of Caido.

A description of the woman Dahlia was spread to the ruling bodies of Torchline, Halo, Stormbreak and the Hollowed Grounds along with instructions to steer clear of both her and the island of Starfall, for the protection of all concerned.
Sunjata the Flood agreed to investigate the woman Dahlia. No further updates are known at this time.

Observations:

There has as of yet been no further reports of unhealing injuries.
There has been no conclusive discoveries made on the rate of spread of the Void infection.
According to Rae the purpose of this invader is to ‘conquer’ - this has yet to be corroborated.

Below is a list of all known Void-infested flora and fauna; Provided by first hand reports from Deimos the Resurrected Sword - Warden of Halo, Hadama the Tidebreaker - King of Torchline, Remi the Lullaby, Noah the Forsaken, Maea Valair, Kiada Njovu-Reyes, Talyson the Messenger, Sunjata the Flood, Ophelia Athanasia et al.

(Included are multitudes of journal entries and recordings, including information about void river stars, spineblooms, void fyrhunds, void ursurs, voidbark dudes, void lotuses, ethereal frostblooms, voidweaver spiders, void vipers, void dragon, voidforge fyrhunds, abyssal mata mata, void messenger and abyssal geckoloths and more.)

Summary:
  • After the meteor impacts of LongNight 316 PC and Tallsun 317 PC, an infestation of Void energy is impacting the flora and fauna of Caido, turning them hostile and aggressive.
  • The person known as Dahlia of unknown origin and intent remain at large and should be considered very armed and dangerous.
  • Conventional magical healing does not have any effect on injuries sustained by Void-infested flora and fauna. The public is advised to keep away from infected specimens at all times.
  • Further research is necessary to determine rate of spread and potential weaknesses of the Void-energy. Physical damage, fire and sleep-inducing spells are reported to have an effect and is the advised method of approach at this time.
