From Attuned to Ascended to Ancient, Kiada Njovu-Reyes has been reborn several times throughout her short life, but her fighting spirit has never once been diminished. If Ronin has been excited at the promise of a tournament (and he has been), finding out he's going up against Deimos of all people only ramps up that feeling. He's cleared the section of the beach where they'll be sparring, and has already warmed up by jogging most of this stretch of coastline.
Now he's stretching and trying (and failing) to centre himself, even as he hears cheers - and Flora on her Caido-equivalent-megaphone - echoing along the warm sand from the other fights taking place.
Does he think he stands a chance against the Sword?
Yes and no.
Because skill is as skill does, but Ronin's luck has always been dicey, especially under these sorts of circumstances. And so, in a tank top and a pair of lightweight sweatpants, barefoot and already looking forward to a few post-fight beers, he waits for his opponent.
Ronin waits for Deimos with no partial shift. The only item he brings from his profile is his phoenix armour, because he doesn't want to be naked if he ends up using the shift. He does not bring his companion.

Phoenix Armour | Encased within an invisible pendant, when Ronin shifts or partially shifts into a phoenix, the pendant will activate. White plate armour will replace his clothing, decorated with the crimson plumes of a phoenix. The armour perfectly fits his body and is extremely easy to move in.

As soon as the season churned, his mind hadn’t been on the tournament. A multitude of other matters had rampaged their accord, but thereafter, everything else seemed to carry on swiftly, calmly, allowing for them to reconcile immediate, but planned, changes.
In much of the same regard as most spars, the Sword didn’t hold a high threshold of feelings; composed, somewhat amused, around a track and trend he’d dedicated himself to hundreds of times before. That his opponent was Ronin was another matter altogether; they’d never been on opposing sides, as far as he could recall. A true test and scorch of abilities – and perhaps that notion alone set a thin smile upon his features.
He'd stretched and breathed, snagged at the multitudes necessary. Magic and shifts came with his blood and soul, and the gloves…certainly on. He extended a hand out to the White Knight as they met along the sands, a nod of his head included. “Good luck. Ready when you are.”
Then he paced outwards, intending to place a decent amount of space between them – and when Ronin assured Deimos he was fervent to start, the Sword unleashed a torrent of Mastered Earth proportions, lifting rocks and rubble and boulders from the ground itself and launching them towards the demigod.

Deimos waits for Ronin to ready himself, and when he is, uses his Mastered Earth to launch rocks, rubble, and boulders his way.

Lighting up - almost literally, but not quite - to see Deimos join him in their sandy arena, Ronin gives a boyish smile and steps up to shake the other man's hand. "Same to you," he says, offering a clap on the Sword's shoulder before releasing him so they might get started.
There's a lot of things Ronin expects next. He's seen Deimos in action, after all, and knows the breadth and power of the magic available at the other man's fingertips. Still, of all the scenarios he might have imagined, being thoroughly and relentlessly pummelled by rocks and boulders is not at the top of that list.
Or rather, it might have been somewhere up there. But he doesn't expect every single one to hit.
"Hey, ow!" The Knight complains, particularly as a sharp chunk of stone clocks him on the side of the head hard enough to darken his hair crimson and crack his skull.
Luckily, Ronin has quite a thick skull.
Raising his arms to cover his face, he reacts almost entirely on instinct. The only warning of his Smite comes with a couple of seconds of harsh white light that ignites Ronin's body from within, before exploding outwards.
On the heels of it, three firebolts, radiant and golden, fire directly at the Sword.
Ronin complains, and then uses his Smite and Radiant Firebolts to target Deimos and heal himself!

Rising from the sea like some warm and welcome submarine is a Tumsea. With a smattering of starfish on its shell and a coating of seaweed, the creature looks as if it is trying to reflect the starlit heavens. Slow and kind, the creature glances your way, and though it is difficult to ascribe a smile to a creature such as this, indeed it seems to be smiling at you before descending down back into the waves.
You’ve encountered a Tumsea. This counts as a rare creature encounter for the purposes of levelling, but does not count as a Random Event for levelling or MP. There will be no further admin/re intervention. If you choose to follow this creature, you do so at your own risk, however, just having it in this thread is enough to satisfy your levelling requirements. You may not kill your rare creature without admin permission.
Tumseas (rare/mythical): Smaller cousins of the Tulmhainar, Tumseas are like moving ecosystems all unto themselves. With shells of brilliant blues and earth browns, these turtle-like creatures can grow to nearly 4ft in diameter and can hold their breath for decades at a time. Bringing vibrancy and health to all the underwater trails they follow, Tumseas are thought to be good omens and are often followed by schools of fish encantados
Deimos had seen enough of Ronin in action to know whatever was coming his way would hurt. Dodging and maneuvering did assist in the second proportions, but not in the first. Sure enough, the scorching abyss seared across his upper arm in one fell swoop, and a hiss of pain lashed across his senses; an eventual necessity of healing coming to a fruition already.
He did notice the tumsea, and would’ve delighted in studying and opening notions towards it, but there were other matters to tend to – and he winced at the complaints nearby. “Sorry,” he muttered, already beginning to summon another hastening of magic.
This one utilized the sea and surroundings – snagging at the water nearby to utilize it in Mastered proportions, intending to douse and soak Ronin in a series of massive waves.

"It's alright," Ronin says through a breathless laugh, lowering his arms enough to shake away the daze and refocus. "Me too," he adds, of the scorches he can see now shine across the Sword's upper arm. No sooner has he spoken, though - and also notices a Tumsea spectating them from afar - when the sea itself comes to engulf him.
Choking in a breath and promptly forced back and onto his knees, draconic wings - once dark and sheathed with starlight, now white and veined with gold - burst from his shoulders. With a powerful beat of his wings, Ronin takes to the air, putting enough distance (approximately 60 feet, for those counting) between himself and the other man to avoid a further assault.
Only once he's clear of the choking saltwater does he conjure another three firebolts, raining them down towards Deimos.
Ronin puts himself out of range of THE FUCKING SEA and throws three more firebolts at Deimos!

At the very least, they had good spirits and not enraged proportions at one another. Watching Ronin fly out of range was fair, all things considered – but Deimos could do the same. While not draconic, the partial shift of his thunderbird wings burst through, carrying him upwards as the White Knight strived to evade, giving chase. He might have apologized again, but instead there was a shrug to his shoulders, as if this was another inevitable thing as starbolts whirled past once more.
And from there, the Sword launched a multitude of Mastered Air, attempting to billow and blast at Ronin, and perhaps shove him off-kilter, billow him elsewhere, or involve him in some ridiculous acrobatic onslaught.

It has been a hot minute since Ronin has felt like active prey in a fight - even with his sparring matches with Remi, they both hobble themselves necessarily, not to mention are easily distracted by each other and by boyish idiocy in general. But this? Damn. Glancing over his shoulder just as the aerial (literal) assault begins, Ronin's wings are yanked such that he's forced to make a prompt descent.
"Fucking hell, Deimos," he chuckles, realising suddenly how much he's become suited to fight as a team over the years. Gods, if only his husband were here.
Oh.
Oh.
"I'm so stupid," Ronin whispers, straightening suddenly and bowing his head, clasping his hands as if in prayer. "And I'm so sorry."
It's with a gentle smile on his face that the Knight summons the Bastion to his side.
Ronin uses Rescue to bring Remi into the fight!
