Thalassa

Sometimes you have to
burn yourself to the ground

After having gathered her igneous rock, Thal proceeded to the lava pits for the next part of her quest. The orange glow of the molten rock overshadowed the little sunlight that filtered through the thick ashy atmosphere, warming her skin with its proximity. She walked between the rivers and deltas of streaming fire, bubbles of lava popping occasionally to break the silence. The smell singed her nose pleasantly. Most Ancients would describe it as the smell of 'home,' but Thal found herself missing the salty brine of the ocean air.

Pulling her daggers from their sheaths, she looked for a small pool to melt the into. Luckily for her, it didn't take long to spot a circle section of lava that diverged from the larger streams. She approached, leaning against a stone to inspect her daggers and begin the work of deconstructing them.

The Climb was not a place that he came often. Once or twice before, as a Mer beneath the full moon's magic, he'd walked the Burrows on quests, but the heat and ash and stone of the place did not make for a comfortable environment for one born of water.

And it was a quest once again that brought him to the Climb today. His feet were protected by thick boots and he wore a lightweight jacket of close-fitting leather to protect his skin from floating embers. His hair was braided tightly back for the same reason as he picked his way carefully across the Crust. His trident served as both walking staff and a way to test the ground ahead of him for stability, and on his back he carried a backpack with a few tools.

He knew that Ancients lived within the Climb, of course, but he did not expect to find one that he recognized there. Nevertheless, a familiar dark cloak caught his eye as he followed a sluggishly flowing lava stream and rounded a large jumble of boulders to find a placidly bubbling pool of molten rock and fire. "Captain," he called out, his voice a low rumble below the hisses and pops of the incandescent liquid stone around them. "Is that you?"

At the sound of her title, Thal turned to spot the Mer King crossing the black stone towards her. She didn't hold back the obligatory smile of greeting. "Hadama. What brings you out here?" It was surprising to see the demigod so far from a body of water, unless he was planning to take a dive in the pleasantly skin-melting pool of lava, which she doubted. In fact, it was almost comical that the first time she was seeing him in more than a single pair of clothing was in the scorching heat. Apparently, the biting cold of Deepfrost was nothing, but the boiling atmosphere of the Climb was more than enough to encourage the use of other clothing items.

Looking back down at her daggers, she attempted to spot a seam between the blade and hilt. Dygra had said to 'dismantle' he daggers, and yet they were practically fused together. Clearing her throat to push away any semblance of assistance that may coat her question, Thal asked, "You wouldn't happen to know how to deconstruct a pair of daggers, would you?" If so, perhaps their unusual meeting could prove useful.

He was quietly pleased that his guess was correct as Thalassa's voice emerged from within her concealing hood. Altering his path to pick his way carefully across the uneven ground towards her he reached up to tap the armlet around one muscular bicep. "Another task to improve the armor." He slid the curling steel-silver jewelry that hid the magical armor off as he reached her, holding it out so she could see it. "I need to temper it in fire," he explained before turning his attention to her daggers.

"Hmm. I can replace the handle of a blade," he confirmed, examining the way that Thalassa's weapons were constructed. "But the old handle is destroyed to do so. If it is made of wood," he clarified. Whether Thalassa's blades were classically constructed or made of some other material would affect his advice on the matter. "Do you have tools with you?"
